BAM Partners with Kindiefest to Present Family Music Festival BAM partners with KindieFest to present family music festival Top family bands perform on April 28 Target is the presenting sponsor of BAMfamily and community programs KindieFest Concert April 28, 12—4pm Ages 12 and under BAM Fisher (Fishman Space) 321 Ashland Place Tickets: $12 Brooklyn, NY/March 8, 2013—BAM and KindieFest partner to bring an internationally recognized roster of award-winning family bands to the Fishman Space in the new BAM Fisher Building on April 28 from 12— 4pm. This year’s concert includes the multiple Parents' Choice Award-winner Robbi K & Friends; Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, named Cool Kid Album of the Year by People magazine; the multi-talented artist and musician Cat Doorman; and the San Francisco-based family hip-hop group Alphabet Rockers. The musical celebration will also include the super-energetic Dirty Sock Funtime Band featured on Nick Jr.’s Jack’s Big Music Show, the “kindie” rock band The Terrible Twos, and the critically acclaimed David Wax Museum known for “kicking up a cloud of excitement” (The New Yorker). Leading up to the concert, is a two-day conference for family music industry members. Stephanie Mayers, KindieFest co-founder and executive producer says, "KindieFest is beyond thrilled to bring our annual Brooklyn family musical party to BAM. With the festival going into its fourth year, we couldn't think of a better place to grow and meet even more families for a full day of music and discovery. This year's line up is a tremendous representation of the diverse quality music that the ‘kindie’ universe has to offer." Vice President of BAM Education and Humanities Stephanie Hughley says, “We are happy to partner with KindieFest to present the popular family music festival at BAM. KindieFest’s years of experience of presenting the best family bands across the nation and BAM’s commitment to offering the most innovative programming, converge marvelously in this family musical celebration.” Family-friendly concessions are available throughout the day in the BAM Fisher Lower Lobby. Visit BAM.org/family for a complete schedule of performance times. About the artists Robbi K & Friends Multiple Parents' Choice Award winner Robbi K’s beautiful voice has graced TV commercials for Coca Cola, Lincoln Mercury, and GE. She was a back-up singer for superstars Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Jewel, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Mary J. Blige, and Harry Belafonte. Robbi K presents interactive concerts where kids and parents can dance to jazz, pop, and world music. Her shows combine music, theater, and culture with a worldview to bring a sense of the global community to family audiences. Robbi K sings and speaks in many languages on award-winning CDs that speak to cultural differences as opportunities for celebration. Cat Doorman Cat Doorman is Julianna Bright, a musician, an artist, a mom and a big believer in the power of story and song to make us better humans. Cat Doorman Songbook is her first album of music for children. Recorded in her home with members of The Decemberists, Corin Tucker Band, Built to Spill and Bright's grown-up band The Golden Bears, the album's gorgeous compositions and lush vocal arrangements speak to the open hearts of kids. Cat Doorman Songbook's first single “Little Red Wagon” has been released as an interactive app for kids made from hundreds of Bright's hand painted illustrations. Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band Named People magazine's #1 Cool Kid Album of the Year—Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band (LDFJB) caters to the hip family crowd. Hailed by USA Today and CBS as the best band on the children's scene, LDFJB serves up deliciously crafted lyrics and fresh pop beats. Led by a husband and wife duo—award-winning singer/songwriter, Lucky Diaz and Broadway performer/songwriter Alisha Gaddis—it features internationally- renowned melotronist Michael Farkas (Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Bob Dylan's hand- picked harp player). Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band makes kids' music with universal appeal. Alphabet Rockers The San Francisco-based family hip-hop group Alphabet Rockers match nostalgic beats with kid-friendly educational lyrics—a combination that has garnered two Parents’ Choice Awards, four stars from Common Sense Media, spots at kindergarten conferences, an educational iPhone App, and Red Tricycle’s Best Kids Artist Award. Since 2007, the Alphabet Rockers (Kaitlin McGaw, Tommy Shepherd, and Stefanie Liang) have mixed hip-hop, beatboxing, soul music, imagination, and dance for a fun, interactive dance party with a sound and personality that draws in families and kids of all backgrounds. The Terrible Twos Breaking the toddler stereotype, The Terrible Twos are not only one of the most popular “kindie” rock bands in the industry, but also the alter ego of celebrated grown-up pop band The New Amsterdams. Both bands are headed by Matt Pryor, a married father of three who lives with his family in Lawrence, Kansas. Pryor was the front man of a post- punk pop outfit called The Get Up Kids for nearly 17 years, touring the world and building a devoted fan base over the course of five albums. He is currently the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist for The New Amsterdams, which released its latest album, Outroduction, in March 2013. Pryor found inspiration for the Twos when he began writing songs with “silly lyrics” for his own children and found that they captured the spirit of what he felt children’s music should be. Dirty Sock Funtime Band The Dirty Sock Funtime Band is a wild musical adventure, known for their high-energy videos featured on Nick Jr.’s Jack’s Big Music Show, in Chuck E. Cheese outlets across the country, and on an episode of Comedy Central’s Workaholics. The Dirty Socks are a fan favorite that are sure to ʺinspire dancing in the aisles—by children and parents alikeʺ (New York Family). Its 2013 release The Dirty Socks Come Clean is eagerly awaited by fans that have seen the band on TV and live around the world. David Wax Museum David Wax and Suz Slezak are the David Wax Museum and together they fuse traditional Mexican folk with American roots and indie rock to create a singular Mexo- Americana sound. Combining Latin rhythms, infectious melodies, and call-and-response hollering, DWM was hailed by Time for its “virtuosic musical skill and virtuous harmonies” and has built a reputation among concertgoers worldwide for “kicking up a cloud of excitement with their high-energy border-crossing sensibility” (The New Yorker). FKP Scorpio Konzertproduktionen GmbH Große Elbstr. 277 a ∙ 22767 Hamburg Tel. (040) 853 88 888 ∙ www.fkpscorpio.com PRESSEMITTEILUNG 22.05.2015 THE GET UP KIDS kommen im August nach Köln THE GET UP KIDS sind wieder da. Jetzt haben THE GET UP KIDS bestätigt, dass 2015 wieder allen gemeinsam gehören soll.
