Thank you Deacon Jim Rose who was the main celebrant for the GoodFridayServices. He did very well for his first GoodFridayService. Also, we will never forget the awesome Living Stations of the Cross on GoodFridayevening.Mark Brady was Jesus. He and the 38 youth of our parish totally brought tears and inspiration to all. Thank you Deb Yuschovitz and Lori Os- ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT trowski who organize this event for our parish year after year. Monsignor Joseph Bambera, J.C.L., Otto H. Hentz, S.J., Carl J. Kuehner, Carl J. Lisman, Arthur R. Madigan, S.J., Margaret Q. Mariotti, Karen Pennington, and Harold T. Rose began their terms at the September 25, 2003 board meeting. Monsignor Bambera is currently the Pastor of the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Mary, Dickson City, a position he has held since July 2001. He serves on numerous advisory boards and commissions for the Diocese of Scranton, and is a member of the College of Diocesan Consultors, the Seminary Advisory Board, and the Presbyteral Council, for which he has served as Chairman.     History of Epiphany Parish, Sayre Pennsylvania! When Father John Costello was made Pastor of Holy Ghost Church at Athens in 1875, I don’t think he had any idea how much his parish would grow and expand during his 24 year stay in the “Valley.” Holy Ghost Parish included all of Athens Township. What is Sayre today was then Pine Plains, a section of the township, and what became South Waverly was Athens Township. The parish also included Ridgebury and Windham. Father Costello was 28 years old as he began his fruitful success here. In 1878 Sayre became the division headquarters for the Lehigh Valley Railroad. Two years later, the population stood at 800. The repair facility for the Lehigh continued to grow and by 1890 the population had grown to 3,200. With this growth came many immigrants from Ireland, Italy and Eastern Europe, many of them having strong ties to the Roman Catholic faith. And so begins the history of Epiphany Parish in Sayre. On Sunday May 12, 1888 Father John J. Costello, pastor of Holy Ghost Parish in Athens, met with his growing congregation in Sayre at the school house. It was decided to break ground for a new church in Sayre. H. J. Baldwin, of Waverly was hired as the contractor and work on the new church began. Construction seemed to move along rapidly. Three churches were being built in Sayre in 1888, Epiphany, Church of the Redeemer, and the Baptist Church. The corner-stone for the new church was laid on Sunday August 19, 1888.

McAuliffe. If so, they were asked to contact the listed telephone number. As a result of this advertisement, the Diocese placed an announcement in the bulletins that were circulated to all of the parishes to which McAuliffe had been assigned. The announcement requested victims of sexual abuse by a member of the clergy to come forward. Several victims responded. Financial assistance was offered in connection with counseling for them and law enforcement was notified. These incidents of reported sexual abuse occurred between September 18, 1954 and April 3, 1963.

At the end of our graduation ceremonies I reminded our graduates that they will always have a home here at King’s and to return often to refresh their spirits and find renewed inspiration. No doubt that is a reminder and invitation once given to you at your graduation. I wish to remind you anew that indeed you have a home here at King’s, return and visit us. In a special way our commencement honored alumni. Alumnus and Chairman of the Board of Directors Tom Smith ’77 was our speaker. Chuck Parente ’62 and Tim Faber received honorary degrees. These men in word and deed modeled for our graduates what it means to selflessly serve God, family and King’s College. They reminded our graduates that in the end their lives will be judged on love alone and they all hoped these new alumni can look back and see a life lived generously, a life in which they selflessly shared themselves and their talents and resources for a better tomorrow. I have always understood the mission of King’s College as an act of love. As a striving to focus and develop our passions and desires toward noble ends. What could be more exciting and rewarding than to help others fall in love with learning, a career choice, a vocation, truth, beauty, goodness and God?
