Scranton Parish Hosting a Blue Christmas Mass Saint John Neumann Parish, Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Street, Scranton, will offer a “Blue Christmas Mass” on Christmas Day at 9:30 a.m. This celebration of the Eucharist will be offered for anyone who might feel at odds with or estranged from the general feeling of joy and happiness at this time of the year. There may be people among us who are suffering a personal loss: death of a loved one, divorce, illness, family trauma, abuse or job loss. Others may be simply too stressed because of holiday expectation. This Mass seeks to comfort people by reminding them that they are not alone. Invite anyone you know experiencing these feelings, no matter where they are from, to enter the stable with the shepherds at Nativity Church. The calm, peaceful liturgy is not to give neat answers to anyone’s suffering, but to assure people of Christ’s message of HOPE at Christmas. The message will be simple, but remarkable: ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it,’ no matter how much it might seem the darkness is winning over our lives and our world.

Prince of Pease Parish Mardi Gras Prince of Peace parish will hold their annual Mardi Gras on Saturday, February 8, at 6:00 p.m. at Arcaro and Genell Banquet Room, Main Street, Old Forge. at C hristmas the Cathedral A C hristmas MESSAGE FROM MONSIGNOR RUPERT See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and so indeed we are. -1John 3.1 On behalf of Bishop Joseph Bambera, Monsignor Thomas Muldowney, and Father Jeffrey Walsh, I extend sincere gratitude to all those who were so generous and thoughtful with cards, baked goods, and gifts that were sent to us the past few weeks. We are so very grateful for and humbled by your generosity! On your behalf, I extend my most heartfelt thanks to Bill Manley, who, along with Kathy Geiger so generously gave of their time and talent to decorate the Cathedral Church and rectory. As always, both spaces are beautifully appointed! I also extend my thanks to Linda Orseck, choir members, instrumentalists, cantors and other liturgical ministers— seminarians, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers, ushers, ministers of hospitality, and sacristans—for sharing their time and talents during the Christmas season, especially as we welcome many visitors to our Cathedral Church. Also, my sincere thanks to our dedicated and caring Parish Staff, who, each day ensure the smooth operation of our Cathedral. Our parish life is so greatly enhanced by the faithful and generous service of so many! Finally, my thanks to you - our faithful parishioners and friends - who share so generously the gifts given to you by our Lord. You are living witnesses of our Catholic faith in action and I am joyfully humbled to have the honor of serving as your pastor. As we celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas, God’s greatest gift to us, let joy be born in our hearts and in our lives. Let us inspire our world, that can seem lost in darkness, with the light of Christ and the light of our joy. Let us welcome strangers and travelers in our midst who come to celebrate the Eucharist. Greet with a welcome smile and gracious hospitality those, like Mary and Joseph, who are seeking room in the inn. May you and your loved ones be blessed with love and peace this Christmas Season and every day of the New Year! Merry Christmas Sincerely,

Monsignor Dale R. Rupert, Pastor
