He received his BA and MA degrees in English from St. Francis Seminary of Milwaukee, WI, in 1935 and 1939, respectively. On July 3, 1941, he married Virginia Joanne Gaertner, a Catholic artist. They made their home in Brookfield, WI. From 1936 to 1943 he served as fiction editor of the Bruce Publishing Co. of Milwaukee, WI. In 1944 he was the managing editor of the Church Property Administration Magazine. From 1944 until his death in 1991 he worked as a freelance writer, publishing more than 25 works, primarily on topics related to the Catholic Church. Nearly 200 hundred original line drawings and illustrations were created by Virginia for its publication.
