Awards are made in respect of the personal achievements of individuals nominated by a Licensed Constituent Body (LB) of The Society. With the support of Council, The Panel will operate in a confidential manner and no correspondence will be entered into, by the panel members in respect of any one determination. The Fellows’ Panel Terms of Reference The Panel oversees nominations for Honorary Fellowship of The Society (HonFSE). It receives nominations from Council Members; supported by two additional Council Members from different LB’s and makes a favourable determination if three quarters of The Panel are in favour. Membership of the Panel The Panel will consist of six members of the Council, including a Chairman, elected annually after the AGM of The Society, for a minimum period of one year but at the discretion of Council for a maximum of three years. The Panel may co-opt other members as and when the Panel deems necessary. Co-opted members need not be Members of The Council of The Society. They will be invited for a specific and time limited projects or purpose and will not have a vote. Meeting Frequency The Panel will typically meet twice a year, but may conduct its business electronically. Key Eligibility Criteria The nominating Licensed Constituent Body (LB) needs to satisfy itself, by consideration of evidence, that any nominated individual fulfils one or more of the criteria set out below. 1. Any person of distinction with a concern for the environment. 2. Any person who has rendered outstanding service to sustainability. 3. Any person who has rendered outstanding service to The Society. The individual may or may not already be a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) Page 3 of 6 Following a favourable determination by The Panel, The Society will confer the Award of an Honorary Fellowship (HonFSE). The award of an Honorary Fellowship does not confer the award of Chartered Environmentalist. The Selection of Nominees: 1. Potential HonFSE’s may be nominated at any time. However, in the first week of January The SocEnv Chief Executive (CEO) will invite up to a maximum of three nominations from each LB, made through its Council Members. The nominations will be made on a standard prescribed form, which may be available electronically and sent to the SocEnv CEO. The CEO will maintain a register of all such nominations. 2. Each nomination shall be supported by a Member of The Council and shall be seconded by at least two other Members of Council of The Society, from different LB’s. The nomination shall be accompanied by a supporting statement in the form of a draft citation which should be between 300 and 600 words long. 3. Nominations not supported by The Panel will not be notified to Council, and will remain confidential. Nominating LB’s may appeal to The Panel for a re-consideration, providing further justification for the nomination. Should The Panel reject the nomination a second time, there is no further appeal. The nominating LB can submit again at a future time. 4. Those awarded a HonFSE shall be entitled to style themselves HonFSE. They will receive a certificate and citation from The Society. 5. Unless Council determines otherwise, the number of HonFSE awards in any one year is not restricted and there is no limit to the total number of HonFSE’s that can be listed by The Society. 6. Presentations of the HonFSE award shall normally be made at a SocEnv hosted event which is normally the SocEnv summer reception following the AGM, but the Chair of The Society may agree to alternative times and events. 7. The process shall be reviewed every three years to enable any appropriate revisions to be made. 8. The nomination, assessment and determination of nominations may be conducted by electronic means with appropriate protocols to retain confidentiality. She qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1970 at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.
