TERMS AND CONDITIONS TOUR PRICE:Fees are based on tariffs and currency exchange rates in effect in July 2018, and are subject to change should there be a rate revision prior to departure. The tour price of $5,199* is based on a minimum of 30 passengers. Cancellation of the pilgrimage is possible if fewer than 30 sign up. ACCOMMODATIONS: Pilgrims stay in first class hotels, based on double occupancy with private facilities. Single room supplement is $825, based on availability. Requests for a HolyHoly roommate will be accommodated, when possible, but are not guaranteed. The single-room supplement will be assessed if a roommate is not available when the group is finalized. MEALS: Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided as indicated in the itinerary. TIPS AND TAXES: Extra costs normally appearing on hotel and restaurant bills as “services” are included in tour price, as are all government and local taxes on hotels and LandLand meals. Airport fees, departure taxes and fuel surcharges are not included, and will be billed at time of ticketing. SIGHTSEEING: Travel will be by modern, air-conditioned motor coach, including services of English-speaking guide and entrance fees paid to all sites on itinerary. Masses at churches indicated are subject to availability. NOT INCLUDED: 1) Optional travel insurance is not included. Enclosed insurance recommendation form must be signed to acknowledge that you have read the recommendation. 2) Also not included are meals not included in itinerary, plus laundry, wines, liquors, sightseeing or services other than those specifically listed, items of a personal nature, and excess baggage charges. 3) *Airport fees, departure taxes and fuel surcharges are calculated at the prevailing rate at the time of ticketing, and will be billed at that time. ASSISTANCE: Pilgrims who require personal assistance must be accompanied by a paying passenger who will provide that assistance. DEPOSIT AND CANCELLATION: A deposit of $500 per person is required to secure reservations, all of which will be applied to the price of the tour, with the balance to be paid in full no later than April 5, 2019. Written cancellations must be received by OCP Pilgrimages prior to March 4, 2019 to receive a refund. Participants who cancel after March 4, 2019, or after registration has been closed, are responsible for the entire cost of the pilgrimage.     Volume One, Number One Shadows over the Land Without Shade: Iconizing the Israeli Kibbutz in the 1950s, acting-out post Palestinian-Nakba Cultural Trauma Lior Libman Abstract: The kibbutz – one of Zionism's most vital forces of nation-building and Socialist enterprise – faced a severe crisis with the foundation of the State of Israel as State sovereignty brought about major structural, political and social changes. However, the roots of this crisis, which I will describe as a cultural trauma, are more complex. They go back to the pioneers' understanding of their historical action, which emanated arguably from secularized and nationalized Hasidic theology, and viewed itself in terms of the meta-historical Zionist-Socialist narrative. This perception was no longer conceivable during the 1948 war and thereafter. The participation in a war that involved expulsion and killing of civilians, the construction of new kibbutzim inside emptied Palestinian villages and confiscation by old and new kibbutzim of Palestinian fields, all caused a fatal rift in the mind of those who saw themselves as fulfilling a universal humanistic Socialist model; their response was total shock. This can be seen in images of and from the kibbutz in this period: in front of a dynamic and troublesome reality, the Realism of kibbutz-literature kept creating pastoral-utopian, heroic-pioneering images. The novel Land Without Shade (1950) is one such example. Written by the couple Yonat and Alexander Sened, it tells the story of the establishment of Kibbutz Revivim in the Negev desert in the 1940s. By a symptomatic reading of the book’s representation of the kibbutz, especially in relation to its native Bedouin neighbors and the course of the war, I argue that the iconization of the kibbutz in the 1950s is in fact an acting-out of the cultural trauma of the kibbutz, the victimizer, who became a victim of the crash of its own self-defined identity.

    he collection of essays presented in “Devotional Cross-Roads: Practicing Love of God in Medieval Gaul, Jerusalem, and Saxony” investigates test case witnesses of TChristian devotion and patronage from Late Antiquity to the Late Middle Ages, set in and between the Eastern and Western Mediterranean, as well as Gaul and the regions north of the Alps. Devotional practice and love of God refer to people – mostly from the lay and religious elite –, ideas, copies of texts, images, and material objects, such as relics and reliquaries. The wide geographic borders and time span are used here to illustrate a broad picture composed around questions of worship, identity, reli- gious affiliation and gender. Among the diversity of cases, the studies presented in this volume exemplify recurring themes, which occupied the Christian believer, such as the veneration of the Cross, translation of architecture, pilgrimage and patronage, emergence of iconography and devotional patterns. These essays are representing the research results of the project “Practicing Love of God: Comparing Women’s and Men’s Practice in Medieval Saxony” guided by the art historian Galit Noga-Banai, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the histori- an Hedwig Röckelein, Georg-August-University Göttingen. This project was running from 2013 to 2018 within the Niedersachsen-Israeli Program and financed by the State of Lower Saxony. Our goal is a better understanding of Jesus' ministry and a better application of His teachings for us today. Day 1 Tuesday, June 21, 2022 ARRIVAL IN THE LAND OF PROMISE We arrive at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, where we will be met by our guide and bus driver for the trip. Afternoon or Evening Arrival: DINNER & REST From the airport we will travel to our hotel on the Mediterranean Coast. Time permitting, we may have an opportunity to stroll on the beach or swim before dinner. Later we will have a brief meeting for introductions, some orientation, and prayer. We begin our day at the fabulous ruins of the Herodian city of Caesarea Maritima, the site of the conversion of Cornelius and the location from which Paul left the shores of Israel and set sail on his journey to Rome. We then travel up the coast to Mount Carmel, with a spectacular view over the North of Israel, near the spot where Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal.

    Haya Graetz-Ran Many of her works follows the feminine feminist voice which is absent from the narrative of the Zionist enterprise, as being studied in the school system and became fixated in the Israeli masculine art scene. Graetz-Ran operates as a painter who is both a researcher and an artist and uncovers testimonies such as personal diaries, objects from the past and photographs. Present reality of violence permeates through the seemingly innocent painting of Graetz-Ran and reflects on dimensions of breadth and depth of the public domain: nation, community and also the realm of the individual. The subjects of the creation of Graetz-Ran deals with the connection and the continuity of local history, mainly of Jezreel Valley. By unearthing historical photographs, which she liberates from old family albums and converting the image from photography to painting, she revives a past reality and stimulates a discourse about forgotten themes. Hence, the graceful paintings of Graetz-Ran raises difficult questions about seduction, memory and nostalgia and arouses the sleepy arteries of painting with new liveliness of layers of time gone by. This painting is feminist, ethical and political. Her works are included in museum collections as well as in private collections. She lives in Kiryat-Tiv’on. Catholic Holy Week and Easter in Jerusalem The period of Lent is drawing to a close, and both the local Christians and thousands of pilgrims who have come to the Holy City will celebrate during the Holy Week and Easter the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the most important time of the Christian liturgical year. There is nothing like experiencing Holy Week in Jerusalem. Celebrating the greatest events of salvation history and of Jesus’ life at the very sites where they occurred is a moving and unforgettable experience of faith for all believers. Holy Week officially begins with the celebration of Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, 29th of March. The highlights of the day will be the solemn mass at 8 a.m. at the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre with the Blessing of the Palms and the traditional palm procession in the afternoon. The procession will start at 2:30 p.m. from the church of Bethphage down the western slope of the Mount of Olives across the Kidron valley and into the Old City of Jerusalem. Thousands of Christians from around the world will joyfully march, praying and singing in many languages. On Holy Thursday, April 2nd, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated at the Holy Sepulchre at 8 a.m. by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. In the afternoon (3:30 p.m.), will take place the traditional pilgrimage of the Franciscans to the Cenacle (the Upper Room) on Mount Zion.
