Notice of Race NOTICE OF RACE 68° ROLEX GIRAGLIA 13th - 19th June 2021 Yacht Club Italiano Yacht Club Italiano NOTICE OF RACE 68° Rolex Giraglia 6° Rolex Giraglia x2 St. Tropez - Sanremo; 13th June 2021 Genoa - Sanremo; 13th June 2021 Sanremo - Giraglia - Genoa; 16th - 19th June 2021 CLASS IRC - ORC/ORC club - MULTI 70 www.rolexgiraglia.com Yacht Club Italiano The event activities must be held in accordance with the provisions on contrast and containment of the diffusion of COVID 19 issued by the Italian Sailing Federation/Fédération Française de Voile that the Organizing Authority will activate and with which the participating entrants, crews and guests must comply under the supervision of the Organizing Authority itself. Any cases of COVID 19 that are detected during the event will be reported by the Organizing Authority to the relevant Italian and or French competent public health body /bodies in charge. Yacht Club Italiano 1. ORGANIZATION 1.1 Races will be organized by Yacht Club Italiano (OA) under the aegis of the Federazione Italiana Vela, the Fédération Française de Voile and in collaboration with: • Société Nautique de St. Tropez • Yacht Club Sanremo With patronage of: • Yacht Club de France • Union Nationale pour la Course au Large • The International Maxi Association • City of Genoa • City of Saint Tropez • City of Sanremo 1.2 The Rolex Giraglia is a valid Race of the French Championship Méditerranée IRC UNCL. 1.3 The IMA (International Maxi Association) is proud to include the Rolex Giraglia in its 2021 race calendar. The Rolex Giraglia is a valid race of the 2021 Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge. 2. RULES 2.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS 2021-2024). 2.2 The WS Offshore Special Regulations (OSR) 2020-2021 Category 3 including life rafts for all races. 2.3 The prescriptions of the National Authority FIV will apply for all Races. 2.4 All notices (deletion or addition) of Race Committee and of Organizing Committee also to the Notice of Race. 2.5 The Notice of Race. 2.6 The Sailing Instructions. 2.7 IMS-ORC Rules 2021. 2.8 IRC Rules 2021 Part A, B e C (IRC-0: no crew weight restriction, just crew number). 2.9 IMA Class Rule 2021 (a) IMA Rule C.2.1.(a).2 applies to Mini Maxi (b) IMA Rules C2.2 to C2.5 apply to helmsmen of Mini Maxi 2.10 Canting keels, moveable appendages and water ballast are permitted if declared on the rating or class certificate (changes RRS 51). 2.11 Steering, ram and winch systems powered by force other than manual are permitted. Change to RRS 52. 2.12 Electric or electronic devices of any kind are permitted. 2.13 The MULTI 70 Class will race with their own rules and will not compete for the definition of the prizes of the other boats. Yacht Club Italiano 3. ADVERTISING 3.1 Advertising shall be displayed in accordance with Regulation 20 – World Sailing Advertising Code. Class rules on advertising shall be respected. [DP]. 4. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRIES 4.1 The regatta is open to all boats certified IRC or ORC/ORC Club ≥9,14 meters of the following Groups: Group 0 (ORC & IRC): - LOA ≥ 18,05 Meters Group 1 (ORC & IRC): - (ORC/ORC Club con CDL ≥ 9,771) - (IRC con TCC ≥ di 1.065) Group 2 (ORC & IRC): - (ORC/ORC Club con CDL ≤ 9,770) - (IRC con TCC ≤ di 1.064) MULTI 70 Class: - Only Rolex Giraglia 4.2 Boats shall enter only one of the classes. Dual registration is not permitted. Changing Class is not permitted after the entry due date. 4.3 Eligible boats may enter only online to www.yachtclubitaliano.it no later than 11 pm May 27th 2021, together with the entry fee and a copy of the Measurement Certificate. 4.4 Late entries (arrived after the due date) may be accepted at the discretion of the Organizing Committee with a 100% surcharge on the entry fee, in any event not after June 3rd 2021. 4.5 All entries arrived without the entry fee will not be refined. 4.6 To all the boats whose inscriptions will be arrived and perfected (with relative entry fee) by May 11th 2021, a free mooring place will be guaranteed up to the availability of the port of Sanremo. 4.7 When completing the online registration, competitors must register for each regatta in which they intend to participate. ENTRY FEE 6.1 The single registration fee is inclusive of all regattas (see point 5) regardless of which one you intend to participate: • Group 0 LOA ≥ 25,00mt. Euro 2.700,00 • Group 0 LOA ≤ 24,99mt. Euro 1.900,00 • Group 1 Euro 1.300,00 • Group 2 Euro 900,00 • MULTI 70 Class Euro 2.700,00 6.2 Payments: The payment of the entry fee must be made online on the website: www.yachtclubitaliano.it . 7. MEASUREMENTS AND SAFETY 7.1 Each boat shall produce a valid measurement certificate with its entry. A copy of the certificate shall be received by the Race Office no later than June 1st 2021. Measurement certificates dated after June 11th 2021 will not be accepted. 7.2 The Race Committee holds the right to conduct inspections on board boats before and after each race. Yacht Club Italiano 8. IDENTIFICATION 8.1 RRS 77 and Appendix G - “Identification on sails” apply. Boats not carrying numbers on their sails or carrying numbers that are not identifiable (both day and night) or different from those under which they registered will be scored DNS without hearing and without previous warning. (this changes RRS 63.1). 9. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 9.1 Saint Tropez – Sanremo Race: Sailing Instructions will be available for competitors at the Race Office at Société Nautique de Saint Tropez in Saint Tropez from 10:00 am on Saturday June 12th 2021. 9.2 Genoa – Sanremo Race: Sailing Instructions will be available for competitors at the Race Office at Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa from 10:00 am on Saturday June 12th 2021. 9.3 Rolex Giraglia/Rolex Giraglia x 2: Sailing Instructions will be available for competitors at the Race Office at Yacht Club Sanremo in Sanremo from 10:00 am Monday June 14th 2021. 10. COURSES 10.1 St. Tropez - Sanremo Race: Saint Tropez – Sanremo (Approx. 60Nm.) 10.2 Genoa – Sanremo Race: Genoa – Sanremo (Approx. 60Nm.) 10.3 Rolex Giraglia/Rolex Giraglia x 2: Sanremo – Rade d’Agay - Giraglia – Genoa (Approx. 241Nm.) Genova Rade dAgay Saint-Tropez Giraglia ROLEX GIRAGLIA 2021 Yacht Club Italiano 11. SCORING 11.1 The “Low Point” scoring system of Appendix A will apply. 11.2 The IRC Category shall be scored on corrected time by TCC. 11.3 The ORC Category shall be scored on corrected time using Time on Time. 11.4 The MULTI 70 Category shall be scored in Real Time. 12. BERTHING 12.1 St. Tropez – Sanremo Race: At St. Tropez, boats will be moored free of charge until exhaustion of available places at the Port of Saint Tropez, under the responsibility of the owner or the skipper from the June 12th 2021. The start of the Race (evening of June 13th 2021). 12.2 Genoa – Sanremo Race: At Genoa, boats will be moored free of charge until exhaustion of available places at the Yacht Club Italiano and neighboring marinas, under the responsibility of the owner or the skipper from the June 12th 2021. The start of the Race (evening of June 13th 2021). 12.3 Rolex Giraglia/Rolex Giraglia x 2: At Sanremo, boats will be moored free of charge until exhaustion of available places at the Yacht Club Sanremo, under the responsibility of the owner or the skipper from June 12th 2021. In Genoa (at the finish of race) boats will be moored free of charge, until exhaustion of available places at the Yacht Club Italiano and neighboring marinas under the responsibility of the owner or skipper, until June 19th 2021. 13. PRIZES 13.1 Saint Tropez – Sanremo Race: • Prize to 1st, 2nd and 3rd scored Overall in Classes IRC – ORC/ORC Club • Ville de Saint Tropez Trophy to 1st scored Overall in the most numerous Class between IRC and ORC/ORC Club • Prize to 1st scored of each Group IRC – ORC/ORC Club 13.2 Genoa – Sanremo Race: • Prize to 1st, 2nd and 3rd scored Overall in Classes IRC – ORC/ORC Club • Challenge Gavagnin Trophy to 1st scored Overall in the most numerous Class between IRC and ORC/ORC Club • Prize to 1st scored of each Group IRC – ORC/ORC Club 13.3 Rolex Giraglia: • Rolex Trophy will be awarded to the 1st scored Overall in the most numerous Class between IRC and ORC/ORC Club • The Challenge Nucci Novi Trophy will be awarded to the 1st scored Overall in the second numerous Class within IRC and ORC/ORC Club • Prize to 2nd and 3rd scored Overall in IRC - ORC/ORC Club Yacht Club Italiano Yacht Club Italiano • Prize to 1st scored of each Group IRC – ORC/ORC Club • Prize to 1st, 2nd and 3rd scored in MULTI 70 Class Special Prizes (MULTI 70 Class Escluded): • Rolex Trophy: The first classified in elapsed time Rolex– Trophy Line Honour and Réné Levainville Trophy • The first classified in elapsed time to have broken the Record Record– Cup • The first yacht to round the Giraglia rock –Beppe Croce Trophy • Sergio Guazzotti Trophy to the first boat owned by a Member of Yacht Club Italiano, scored Overall in the Class with the most boats completing the race within IRC and ORC/ORC Club • IMA Trophy to the first boat owned by an IMA member scored in IRC • The Yacht Club de France and the Yacht Club Italiano will award a special prize to the best scoring boat from of the Navy.

Esimit Europa 2, l’R/P Maxi 100 di Igor Simcic che ha tagliato per primo la linea di arrivo poco dopo le 12 di ieri, vince il Trofeo Rolex e il Trofeo Réné Levainville riservato al primo classificato in tempo reale nella prova d’altura della Giraglia Rolex Cup. Si aggiudica inoltre il Trofeo Beppe Croce per il primo yacht che ha doppiato lo scoglio della Giraglia e un orologio Rolex.

Grazie al talento tattico di un equipaggio a trazione francese, con i campioni transalpini Marc Pajot e Thierry Peponnet che si sono alternati al timone dell'ultimo nato del cantiere Wally. Classifiche in tempo compensato ancora difficili da stimare, con la flotta ancora molto allungata lungo la rotta tra la Corsica e Genova ‘Secondo me è una regata che durerà circa 24 ore’ – così parlò Thierry Peponnet, il campione francese alla tattica del Wally 100 Tango, profetizzando così un tempo che ha mancato di 12 minuti scarsi. Non aveva certamente atteso di vincerla, però, con un tempo totale di 23h48m55s e dopo una regata piuttosto impegnativa. ‘Non sono un grande amante delle regate offshore – gli fa eco Marc Pajot, veterano della Coppa America e timoniere del velocissimo progetto di Mark Mills – ma la Giraglia è una regata sempre speciale. Ne ho fatte diverse, ma è la prima volta che la vinco’. Dietro Tango, un arrivo in volata per Galateia davanti a Magic Carpet. I 3 Wally 100 hanno condotto una regata che, a tratti, ha ricordato il triello finale del film ‘Il buono il brutto e il cattivo’ di Sergio Leone. Si sono sempre marcati a vista con le miglia finali in cui il vento, in fase calante, ha rimescolato le carte consentendo la volata finale a Tango. Insomma, le prime 3 posizioni in tempo reale, sono stato un affare privato tra i 3 Wally 100, con gli arrivi dei primi 3 nell'arco di un'ora.

It was a spectacular start with the line a few hundred metres from the breakwater of the old port of Sanremo and an offset mark about 1 ½ miles to the east; from there the yachts hoisted their big asymmetrical spinnakers and quickly disappeared towards the first mark in Cala del Forte. This was the last mark in the Italian part of the race, with the second mark of this unprecedented Rolex Giraglia at Chretienne off the Rade d’Agay, about 15 miles from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez with a committee boat of the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez waiting to record the roundings of all the yachts.     IRC France 2020 report Due to the pandemic, the initial competition program was not respected: outright cancellation for many Spring events such as Massilia, SNIM, 1st stage Transquadra, La Giraglia, etc. During the confinement, in order to maintain the IRC championships afloat, UNCL did not cancel the championships but suggested to clubs to reset their races during September and October. UNCL also wrote a document, taking the sanitary situation and rues into consideration, to enable solo and duo races first and crews later and pushed it to the French Federation which has been quite useful to prove the sense of responsibility of sailors and the limited risks when offshore. The French MNA (FFV) primary objective was to save the Vendee Globe and got lots of support from the local political authorities. Once it has been agreed in June, the organiser of the DRHeam Cup due to leave from Cherbourg mid-july and supported by UNCL and Yacht Club de France, cancelled the village and hospitalities but opened the race to all possible series including Figaro 3. It was the right move and pushed many organizers to do everything to maintain or reprogram their events. Marseille 2024 which was supposed to be a merger between Massilia and SNIM was cancelled 3 days before the date due to new restrictions in Marseille but Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, 90 Kms away, have taken place. During this period, new races emerged like the Cap 300 at Le Crouesty (Brittany) at the end of August or the Sanaryenne (Close to Toulon) on October 10th.
