Travel Documents This includes passport, airline tickets, valid IDs and everything else you might need. Given there are no direct flights between Australia and Cebu, you must have a connecting flight before leaving Australia. Even if you have received electronic tickets via email, we recommend to still print them out. Keep your passport safe and accessible. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you will return home. Attention! Copy all your documents or, even better, scan them and upload them to an online storage of your preference such as Dropbox or Google Drive. In this way you will always have access to them and can’t lose or forget anything. Your AirBNB host may also require a photocopy of your passport so please have one ready. Money The exchange rate at Manila airport is fantastic so it’s a great spot to exchange AUD. You can find exchange booths just outside the International Exit doors. Medicines If you have any medications to maintain, please make sure you bring the right quantity during your travel. You also may bring your prescription in case you need to purchase more. Please make sure your prescription has the Generic name of your medication clearly stated. Chargers and adaptors Please do not bring disposable batteries into the country. There is no functioning waste separation system. You may bring rechargeable batteries and chargers instead. Our wall outlets are different than the ones in Australia. Please take note of the following type of adaptors you will need to bring with you. Sunscreen Our weather can get hot and you can easily get sunburn. We recommend to bring SPF 50 or above to protect yourself. The Right Clothes During your flight it can sometimes be cold. You will appreciate bundling up in a sweater and a pair of trousers. You might also want to quickly change into light summer clothes once you arrive at the airport because as soon as you open the airport doors, the warm tropical weather will welcome you. For Men: Cotton and breathable shirts Cotton shorts or pants Comfortable and well supported shoes For Women: Cotton dresses or shirts Wrap skirts, Long or billowy cotton skirts Closed flat shoes/sandals Note that VA Platinum does not have a specific dress code however the building management does not allow the following: Sleeveless shirts – for Men Revealing tops – for women Short shorts (above the knee shorts) – for women Flip flops (thongs in Aussie lingo) AIRPORT REMINDERS! Luggage If flying with Philippine airlines and landing in Manila on the way to Cebu... Be sure to grab your bag and take it with you to domestic check in. For some reasons bags do not go through all the way. Airport Taxes You may have to pay 750 PHP in airport taxes (terminal fee) on your way back home. The authorities at the airport prefer if you have the exact amount with you and they do not like it when you need to go find some change. You should also have 200 PHP more with you just in case of a short-term increase of the tax. Airport Food The food in Manila airport is mostly fast food, so consider bringing your own snacks. Weather The Philippines is generally a warm, wet country with the average temperature between 26-30° Celsius (78-86° Fahrenheit) all year round. While there are technically only two seasons, Rainy and Dry, the Dry season is subdivided into Cool and Hot. Most rain falls between June and November, but due to its location in the typhoon belt, it is not uncommon to experience prolonged rain in other times of the year too. Excessive rain can cause many issues including power outages, travel delays, supply issues, and residential flooding. The Dry Hot season (March to May) - Temperatures may reach between 28 °C to 32 °C This season is the equivalent of Summer in many other countries of the world, it is the hottest of the seasons. The sky is at its bluest and the water at its clearest during this time of the year. The Rainy season (June to November) - Temperatures may reach between 24 °C to 30 °C While the rainfall peaks during this season, it isn't always torrential rain, and days can be hot and sunny, with short, intense downpours. The Dry Cool season (December to February) - Temperatures may reach between 22 °C to 30 °C Don’t be fooled, the Cool season is not that cool, it is just less hot (well, from an Australian’s point of view). Typically, it is just a few degrees cooler than the Hot season.     January 16, 2020 Dear fellow Rotarians Pit Senyor! In celebration of Sinulog 2020, Prosperity Celebration Inc., in cooperation with Il Corso Mall, City of Cebu, Cebu Landmaster Inc. and Virginia Food Inc. will present a Fireworks Competition on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6PM entitled Sky Symphony. It will showcase the pyrotechnic skills of companies from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. In this regard, PP Jonie Gesalem would like to offer every RCC member a pair of VIP tickets for access to a premium spot in the mall to watch the pyrotechnics competition. This month of January, we will be expecting two visiting Rotary Clubs. On Jan. 23, Thursday, 3 members of RC Okayama Marunouchi will be attending our luncheon meeting. We will also be hosting a fellowship dinner that evening at Chikaan in Salinas Drive 6:30PM. The second club is RC Yotsukaido, our partner in the Community Scouts Project, which will be arriving this coming 31st January. We look forward to this visit hoping we can do new big projects with this club. We will ask Rotarian Shige Onda to brief us later of the itinerary so members can join us in these activities. In the effort to help the communities in the northern part of Cebu affected by the last Typhoon Ursula last Christmas, District 3860 thru Disaster Management Chair - Troy Bumagat, donated Php30,000.00 in addition to our fund-raising activity whereby raising the amount to more than Php600K already. Congratulations RC Cebu for this new feat. We just donated on the first weekend of January 2020 materials for the six temporary classrooms in Población National High School, Daan Bantayan Cebu.
