Devon Heritage Centre Wealthy philanthropists Leonard Elmhirst and his wife Dorothy Whitney Elmhirst were business partners of Maurice Browne, the producer of the Savoy Theatre production of Journey’s End. Together they founded Maurice Browne Ltd, a West End theatrical company which put on a variety of plays between 1929 and 1935 including Journey’s End. The material listed below forms part of the archives of Dartington Hall Trust, a charity specialising in the arts, sustainability and social justice. Dartington Hall in Devon was bought by the Elmhirsts in 1925, and the Trust was established in 1935 to adminster the Hall’s estate. The Trust’s archives are now held at Devon Heritage Centre, where they can be consulted by researchers.
