Knowledge of the environmental parameters of study area is thus an essential prerequisite to understand the composition of animal’s inhabitants and their distribution. In the present study the Ecology and Occurrence of two species of Pugilina (Hemifusus) cochlidium and Pugilina erecta along the coast of Thondi are influenced by the environmental factors with less significance. As these animals are bottom living, they were not much affected by changes in the environmental factors. In the present study the maximum temperature was recorded during summer season and the minimum during monsoon. The changes in the temperature have been proved to have meager influence in the distribution of these two species as the temperature variation was not sufficient enough to affect their distribution. The aim of the present study was to describe the radula of 2 Pugilina cochlidium populations using SEM. The radula in 2 species proves itself as a rachiglossate type showing the radular formula of 1 + R + 1. The first population hasthe central tooth wide with sharp cusps equal in length, emanate from posterior margin of tooth base. The lateral teeth have 2 cusps and are long, sharp, pointed and bent towards the rachidian tooth. Whereas the second population, the central tooth is narrow with sharp cusps equal in length, emanate from posterior margin of tooth base. The lateral teeth have 2 cusps and are broad, longer, sharp, pointed and bent towards the rachidian tooth. -

The female can be differentiated from the male by the absence of the cephalic penis and a complicated genital aparatus visible through the mantle skirt in both the sexes. In other aspects of the external features of female are quite to males. In both species the digestive system was similar with few differences in structure between each other. It consists of buccal mass, proboscis, salivary glands, accessory salivary glands, oesophagus, stomach, intestine, rectum and anus. The nervous system in both P. cochlidium and P. erecta is constituted by six ganglia which forms the circumoesophgeal ganglionic ring. Among the neogastropods there is a similarity in the organization of the reproductive systems. -

www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN The queen conch mitogenome: intra‑ and interspecifc mitogenomic variability in Strombidae and phylogenetic considerations within the Hypsogastropoda Salima Machkour‑M’Rabet 1*, Margaret M. Hanes2, Josué Jacob Martínez‑Noguez 3, Jorge Cruz‑Medina 4 & Francisco J. García‑De León 3* Aliger gigas is an economically important and vulnerable marine species. We present a new mitogenome of A. gigas from the Mexican Caribbean and use the eight publicly available Strombidae mitogenomes to analyze intra‑ and interspecifc variation. We present the most complete phylogenomic understanding of Hypsogastropoda to date (17 superfamilies, 39 families, 85 genera, 109 species) to revisit the phylogenetic position of the Stromboidea and evaluate divergence times throughout the phylogeny. The A. gigas mitogenome comprises 15,460 bp including 13 PCGs, 22 tRNAs, and two rRNAs. Nucleotide diversity suggested divergence between the Mexican and Colombian lineages of A. gigas. Interspecifc divergence showed high diferentiation among Strombidae species and demonstrated a close relationship between A. gigas and Strombus pugilis, between Lambis lambis and Harpago chiragra, and among Tridentarius dentatus/Laevistrombus canarium/Ministrombus variabilis. At the intraspecifc level, the gene showing the highest diferentiation is ATP8 and the lowest is NAD4L, whereas at the interspecifc level the NAD genes show the highest variation and the COX genes the lowest. Phylogenomic analyses confrm that Stromboidea belongs in the non‑Latrogastropoda clade and includes Xenophoridea. The phylogenomic position of other superfamilies, including those of previously uncertain afliation, is also discussed. Finally, our data indicated that Stromboidea diverged into two principal clades in the early Cretaceous while Strombidae diversifed in the Paleocene, and lineage diversifcation within A. -

Stomach anatomy does not depend upon diet, but reflects phylogenetic relationships. Therefore, a combination of stomach characters [presence or absence of the posterior mixing area; presence and degree of devel- opment of longitudinal fold(s), separating gastric chamber into ventral and dorsal channels; presence and degree of development of lateral sulcus; position of the digestive gland ducts, and others] allows discrimination of all families of Buccinoidea, except for the closely related Buccinidae and Buccinulidae. The current familial position of the genera Clea, Busycon and Nassaria is questioned from evidence of stomach anatomy. The function of the neogastropod stomach is discussed, with emphasis on food absorption. Observations on the ciliary currents in the stomachs of live specimens suggest that food absorption occurs through the stomach walls, rather than in the tubules of the digestive gland.
