The highly successful launch event, which was held at Marshall of Cambridge, succeeded in raising over £200,000 which enabled the World Land Trust to complete the purchase of this land. Grahame Nix, Chief Operating Officer, Marshall Aerospace, was awarded an OBE in the 2009 Grahame Nix OBE New Years Honours List for Services to the Defence Industry. Grahame joined Marshall of Cambridge (Engineering) under the Company’s Graduate Management Trainee Scheme in 1980 and was appointed Assistant to the Production Manager in 1982. In 1983 he was appointed C130 Project Manager and was at the forefront of the company’s development of a formalised Project Management organisation. During the 1980s Grahame progressively assumed responsibility for an increasing number of civil and military projects culminating in a major programme to complete MD11s for McDonnell Douglas which saw the company achieve an FAA Production Extension, one of only two ever awarded. In 1992 he moved back into operations as General Manager of the Manufacturing Division and in 1995 was appointed a Director of Marshall Aerospace with overall responsibility for Production. In 2000 he was appointed as Deputy Managing Director and led a number of change management programmes and has been closely involved with recruitment, training and team building initiatives. Following his lead on the Hercules Integrated Operational Support (HIOS) proposal and his stewardship of a reorganisation of the company into discreet business streams he was appointed Chief Operating Officer to lead these business streams. Grahame received his OBE from Her Majesty The Queen on Wednesday, 18th February and was accompanied by his wife, Kate, and sons Adam and Tom. Air League Centenary Mr Michael Marshall, as President of the Air League, hosted a lunch in London on 17th February, in New Zealand House, to celebrate the centenary of the Air League. New Zealand House is on the site of the former Carlton Hotel where the Air League was formed on 17th February 1909 and present at the luncheon were senior representatives of the armed forces, industry and the City, in addition to the Air League’s patron, His Royal Highness Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh. Marshall Bury St. Edmunds bodyshop gains BSi Kitemark The Marshall Group Bodyshop in Bury St Edmunds has been awarded the prestigious PAS 125 Kitemark Standard. This is known to be the ‘toughest’ accreditation in the Motor Industry Aftersales sector. It rigorously evaluates the capability of the business to repair cars safely and correctly, by auditing evidence and traceability of specific repair methodology, technician and estimator ATA qualifications, recruitment process, training and competency, tooling and materials compatibility and maintenance. Dale Hing, Group Bodyshop Manager commented: “Achievement of this very stringent standard endorses our commitment to repair-integrity and safety, in line with our core values, giving our customers and business partners complete peace of mind. With the various high-strength metals and technology used in the production of modern vehicles, it is vital that we can effect the correct repair process each and every time, and the PAS 125 standard compliments our Vehicle Manufacturer Approval standards.” The Bury St Edmunds site is the first of the Motor Group’s six Bodyshops mapped out to achieve the PAS 125 BSI Kitemark. 4 Teamwork Spring 09 High Achiever Steve Wolton, Master Technician at Bury St Edmunds Peugeot has beaten all the other Peugeot Master Technicians in the Country with his technical knowledge.
