Sires represented in our 2011 sale include the genetic excellence of TNT Knockout, TNT Blackberry, Wheatland Red Teddy 457P, TNT Top Gun R244, TNT Gunner, Twin Chief Sizzler, CNS Dream On L186, BJA Mr Unmatchabull 637U, KEN Shadow 32S and KLC Last Move. The sale bull offering displays bulls exhibiting sound structure, good testicular development, growth and muscle expression while maintaining moderate birth weight and eye appeal. All bulls are semen tested and meet the stan- dards set by the Canadian Simmental Association. We have an excellent set of Simmental influenced heifers including red blaze face and black heif- ers. These heifers are consigned by our valued bull customers and represent some exceptional commercial cattlemen. If you have any questions about the bulls or heifers contact Ken or Bruce. Definitely stop by the ranch to appraise the bulls prior to the sale or join us in Provost on March 16 for beef on a bun lunch with the sale at 1:00 pm. The 2011 sale offering is the strongest set of bulls raised to date. Bruce & Jean Adair, Ken & Treena Adair Chuck & Tammy Dube & family 2 Year Old Bulls… We have a select group of registered cows calving in April/May with our commercial herd. These cows utilize stubble grazing, chaff piles, swath grazing, bale grazing and stock piled pasture through the winter months. Calving begins mid-April on pasture. The first year the bulls are wintered on growing ra- tion and then on grass from May to the end of November when we start to feed a balanced high roughage ration. This set of bulls born in April/May have the potential to cover more cows the first season. Again this year these bulls were tested for average daily gain (ADG) on grass from May 1 to November 29. Rest assured if these bulls can gain this well on a grass only diet, their progeny will perform well on grass or in feedlot situations. BULLS BORN AND RAISED UNDER COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICES FOR THE COMMERCIAL CATTLEMAN! Foolish is… …the person who considers himself safe and sound beacuse he has money… • Money can buy medicine, but not health. • Money can buy a house, but not a home. • Money can buy companionship, but not friends. • Money can buy food, but not an appetite. • Money can buy a bed, but not sleep. • Money can buy the good life, but not eternal life. • Form in Popular Song, 1990-2009
FORM IN POPULAR SONG, 1990-2009 Jeffrey S. Ensign Dissertation Prepared for the Degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS December 2015 APPROVED: Thomas Sovik, Major Professor Donna Emmanuel, Committee Member John Covach, Committee Member Frank Heidlberger, Chair of Music History, Theory, and Ethnomusicology Benjamin Brand, Director of Graduate Studies for the College of Music James Scott, Dean of the College of Music Costas Tsatsoulis, Dean of the Toulouse Graduate School Ensign, Jeffrey S. Form in Popular Song, 1990-2009. Doctor of Philosophy (Music Theory), December 2015, 285 pp., 31 figures, 127 examples, bibliography, 92 titles. Through an examination of 402 songs that charted in the top 20 of the Billboard year-end charts between the years 1990 and 2009, this dissertation builds upon previous research in form of popular song by addressing the following questions: 1) How might formal sections be identified through melody, harmony, rhythm, instrumentation, and text? 2) How do these sections function and relate to one another and to the song as a whole? 3) How do these sections, and the resulting formal structures, relate to what has been described by previous theorists as normative? 4) What new norms and trends can be observed in popular song forms since 1990? Although many popular songs since 1990 do follow well-established forms, some songwriters and producers change and vary these forms. AAA strophic form, AABA form, Verse-Chorus form, Verse-Chorus with Prechorus and/or Postchorus sections, Verse-Chorus- Bridge form, “Other, with a Chorus” and “Other, without a Chorus” forms are addressed. An increasing number of the songs in each of the above listed forms are based on a repeating harmonic progression or no harmonic progression at all.
