Nikhef Science Park 105 1098 XG Amsterdam by Train Getting there and away: Nikhef Science Park 105 1098 XG Amsterdam By train: Science Park has it's own railway station (5 minutes by foot from Nikhef). It is served by trains from Amsterdam Central Station and from Almere. From Amsterdam Central Station the trains leaves about every 15 minutes (train to Almere). Amsterdam Science Park is then the Second Stop. The trains back to the Central Station leaves also about every 15 minutes. From Amsterdam airport (Schiphol): Take the train from the airport railway station to Amsterdam Central station and then the train to Amsterdam Science Park (see above). There is also a direct train. From the City: Take any metro line to the Amstel railway station and take bus 40 or take tram 9, get off at the Kruislaan tram stop and from there take bus 40 or walk down the Kruislaan towards and then under the railway tunnel. This takes about 15 minutes. By Car: Take the ring Amsterdam (A10). Take exit S113, direction Watergraafsmeer (from Utrecht/Den Haag after the exit turn left, from Zaandam/Amersfoort turn right). Turn right at the fifth traffic light (map) onto the Hugo de Vries Laan, continue following the road left and right until after a railroad tunnel. Turn right on the McGillavrylaan. Nikhef entrance will be on your left. You will have to take a parking ticket. You can get an exit card from the organisation. Public Transport: There is a new way of paying for the public transport in the Netherlands: The OV- chipkaart. The options are a single use card (3.75€) or an anonymous multi-use card. You can get these in ticket offices in the railway stations and in the AKO bookstore at Schiphol. The card can be charged-up at almost all railway stations. Unfortunately there is a price for the card which is non-refundable (7.50€). For getting on to the bus and tram there is a minimum balance required of 3.50€. For the train this is 20€. For the train it is still possible to buy a normal ticket. The balance can be refunded when you leave, for a fee of 2.50€. Hotels: These are reasonable hotels conveniently located for Nikhef. Note that we have not block booked any rooms as booking via internet (below) gives the same rate. – Hotel Rembrandt on the Plantage Middenlaan, reachable by tram 9. – Hotel Tropen on the Linneaeusstraat , reachable by tram 9. – The Ibis Amsterdam Centre and Amsterdam City Stopera are hotels near the central station. – Hotel CC A modern hotel near the central station. – Booking.com gives many other options. .

  • A Regret Lower Bound for Assortment Optimization Under the Capacitated MNL Model with Arbitrary Revenue Parameters Yannik Peeters1 and Arnoud V
Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences (2021), 1–9 doi:10.1017/S0269964821000395 RESEARCH ARTICLE A regret lower bound for assortment optimization under the capacitated MNL model with arbitrary revenue parameters Yannik Peeters1 and Arnoud V. den Boer1,2 1 Amsterdam Business School, University of Amsterdam, Plantage Muidergracht 12, 1018 TV Amsterdam, The Netherlands. E-mail: [email protected] 2 Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics, University of Amsterdam, Science Park 105-107, 1098 XG Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Keywords: Assortment optimization, Incomplete information, Multinomial logit model, Regret lower bound Abstract In this note, we consider dynamic assortment optimization with incomplete information under the capacitated multinomial logit choice model. Recently, it has been shown that the regret (the cumulative expected revenue loss caused√ by offering suboptimal assortments) that any decision policy endures is bounded from below by a constant times ,where denotes the number of products and denotes the time horizon. This result is shown under the assumption that the product revenues are constant, and thus leaves the question open whether a lower regret rate can be achieved for nonconstant revenue parameters. In this note, we show that this is not the case: we show that, for any vector of product revenues√ there is a positive constant such that the regret√ of any policy is bounded from below by this constant times . Our result implies that policies that achieve O( ) regret are asymptotically optimal for all product revenue parameters. 1. Introduction In this note, we consider the problem of assortment optimization under the multinomial logit (MNL) choice model with a capacity constraint on the size of the assortment and incomplete information about the model parameters.
