Inabnet, III, Committee on Education & Research Richard A. Prinz, SOAC Representative Message from our President Welcome to the annual Newsletter of the AAES and my best wishes to all of you for continued success in 2011. I would like to acknowledge the tremendous effort and dedication of Janice Pasieka, last year’s President and Jeff Lee who served as Vice President. Under their leadership, the “Calgary Project” came to completion and I suspect nearly all of us will be wearing the AAES ties and scarves this spring. In addition, it is important to thank last year’s committee chairs; Mike Bouvet who chaired the Publication and Program Committee and Brad Mitchell, who chaired the Membership Committee. The AAES would not be such an international success without the hard work of all of its members, especially those who make our committee structure successful. Probably very close behind Janice in hours devoted to the AAES was Sally Carty, the Local Arrangements Chair for the Pittsburgh meeting. The preparation for national meetings such as this requires a huge amount of time and effort for which we are most grateful. Lastly, at the Pittsburgh meeting, Dr. George Irvin was awarded the Oliver Cope Achievement Award. He represents only the seventh surgeon to receive this prestigious honor, our congratulations to Dr. Irvin. This past September we held the first (and hopefully annual) officer retreat at the Chicago O’Hare airport. It was an opportunity for me, Ashok Shaha, Peter Angelos, Jerry Doherty, and Steve Libutti to get together and discuss issues related to organization structure and Douglas B.
