For the full text of this licence, please go to: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.5/ Rugby Union Men: Body Concerns by Natalie Darko Doctoral Thesis Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of PhD Doctoral Thesis of Loughborough University (July 2012) Natalie Darko 1 Abstract Existing research shows that increasing numbers of young men are dissatisfied with the appearance of their bodies. Drummond (2002a; 2005; 2010) has found that men will use sport and health-related sports acts to conceal these concerns from others. Accordingly, men’s body dissatisfactions are documented less frequently because the practices drawn upon to conceal them are perceived as routine forms of masculine behaviour. Rugby union is one of the most popular sports played by young men in England. Historically, the male rugby player is culturally perceived as strong, tough and unemotionally articulate. Existing research draws attention to health issues, such as performance stress and injury that arise through participation in this sport. Research also shows that rugby union players are likely to experience concerns about gaining weight, yet these are disguised within the requirements of training for the sport. Although, there are studies that examine the constitution of masculinities, the experience of pain and injury and career transitions among rugby union players there are no studies, as yet, that examine how rugby union men experience body concerns and manage these experiences through their sport.

Our Global Day Camps are offered to children who are in pre-k through 6th grade. All Global Day Camps are planned around weekly themes, include a wide array of activities, with one weekly trip to a local water park/ pool and either another field trip or a special guest related to the weekly camp theme. Polansky Stanton Glantz, PhD CENTER FOR TOBAccO CONTROL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94143 April 2007 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Smoking among American adults fell by half between 1950 and 2002, yet smoking on U.S. movie screens reached historic heights in 2002, topping levels observed a half century earlier.1 Tobacco’s comeback in movies has serious public health implications, because smoking on screen stimulates adolescents to start smoking,2,3 accounting for an estimated 52% of adolescent smoking initiation. Equally important, researchers have observed a dose-response relationship between teens’ exposure to on-screen smoking and smoking initiation: the greater teens’ exposure to smoking in movies, the more likely they are to start smoking. Conversely, if their exposure to smoking in movies were reduced, proportionately fewer teens would likely start smoking. To track smoking trends at the movies, previous analyses have studied the U.S. motion picture industry’s top-grossing films with the heaviest advertising support, deepest audience penetration, and highest box office earnings.4,5 This report is unique in examining the U.S. movie industry’s total output, and also in identifying smoking movies, tobacco incidents, and tobacco impressions with the companies that produced and/or distributed the films — and with their parent corporations, which claim responsibility for tobacco content choices. Examining Hollywood’s product line-up, before and after the public voted at the box office, sheds light on individual studios’ content decisions and industry-wide production patterns amenable to policy reform.

Their relationship seems to be going very well, so decision leaving for the last time as an engaged couple at a time in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet and the capital of lovers. Sophie dreams of a romantic trip, but clashes with the reality that Victor sees more interested in the Italian culinary secrets and discover new suppliers for his restaurant. Sophie, only to Verona, the city finds that the City has commissioned four women to answer all the letters left under the legendary balcony. Discovered by chance a letter written nearly 50 years ago, Sophie decides to respond to the letter in his own hand. You will soon find yourself face to face with the woman who wrote that the name of “never too late when it comes to love," will return to Tuscany in search of Lorenzo , his long lost love . Sophie accompany the woman in his quest, along with the arrogant grandson Charlie. American cinema often thrives on stereotypes and clichés. However, when you end up in the meat grinder is a part of our cultural heritage (it was only in terms of food and wine or landscape) then it becomes all the more apparent. And ' the case of Letters to Juliet , a romantic comedy that turns Verona , the capital city of lovers thanks to Romeo and Juliet, in a small town made up of narrow streets dotted with simpering balconies and Tuscany in a green place where the streets are all dirt , surrounded by cypress trees and rustic dwellings newly renovated .

There are researchquestions conducted in this study, they are(1) What are the types of Politeness strategies that are used by the characters in Hotel Transylvania 2 Movie?; (2) What are maxims that are violated by the characters in Hotel Transylvania 2 Movie? This analysis focuses on the politeness strategies and cooperative principle that used by characters in the Movie script of Hotel Transylvania 2. The researcher applied the qualitative research and used descriptive methods in this study because all data are in the form of words. Meanwhile, the type of the research is content analysis because it intended to analyze the content of the data which are in the form of movie script to find the politeness strategies. From the findings, the researcher found that the casts mostly use positive politeness strategy, it means that they seek to minimize the threat to the hearer’s positive face. In other word, it shows the closeness of the characters each other. In general, woman‘s natural roles are still regarded as caretakers, caregivers, and house wives. They are expected to take off time from work and other activities to take care for their children and do house hold (Woods, 2001:55). In other words they do not have the similar accesses to men to participate in public life. In patriarchy, a social system positioning a man as a superior and a woman as inferior creates the pattern of sex role behavior which embedded deeply in the mind of both man and woman (Anderson, 1997:13). It means that the system of the culture and their dependent to men, positioning woman easily to be exploited. Feminism is a body of social theory and political movement primarily based on and motivated by the experiences of women. While generally providing a critique of social relations, many proponents of feminism also focus on analyzing gender inequality and the promotion of women's rights, interests, and issues. Feminist theory aims to understand the nature of gender inequality and focuses on gender politics, power relations and sexuality. Feminist political activism campaigns on issues such as reproductive rights, domestic violence, maternity leave, equal pay, sexual harassment, discrimination and sexual 1 2 violence. Themes explored in feminism include discrimination, stereotyping, objectification, sexual objectification, oppression and patriarchy.
