rom the outside, it’s hard to imagine what military life is like. FI am very proud of my father, Lieutenant Robert L. Sfreddo, for his dedicated years of sacrifice to honor and defend our country. “Bobby” flew F-4 Phantom jets during most of his 23-year Marine Corps career, and his medals and decorations include seven Air Medals, the Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He is a hero. Due to my father’s career and constant relocation, adapting to new schools, new friends, and new homes was our family’s way of life. Page 8 www.arf.net Winter 2012 arf programs Become an ARF Sustainer Do it for Maggie Maggie, a beautiful fawn-colored Shar Pei mix, had a life full of suffering before she came to ARF. Her worried face, crushed paw, and buff fur riddled with pellet gun wounds told the story of a dog who fought for her life - and won. Instead of excitedly running to us once her cage opened like so many we rescue, she stepped into our open arms tentatively, and, realizing she was finally safe, thankfully nuzzled her head into our laps. Looking into the eyes of the animals we save, numbers don’t immediately come to mind. We think of the journey, not the miles, each dog and cat travels before arriving at ARF. Once we rescue them, our work is far from over. We provide medical care, give warm beds and shelter, and provide simple pleasures like toys, walks, playtime, and love. Only at the end of the day do we think of the cost of traveling more than 350 miles each week to save lives, or the dollar amount it takes to feed, house, and rehabilitate the animals we take in daily.

Every gift makes a difference 60 cents a day provides a dog one vaccination 65 cents a day provides one meal for a dog or cat 82 cents a day provides formula to bottle-feed a kitten for one day Maggie found a new home

ARF Sustainers help save lives and provide ARF an ongoing, dependable source of income. Every cent adds up to make a big difference in the lives of homeless cats and dogs like Maggie. With your gift they will know what is like to not be hungry, to have a soft bed, and to finally know unconditional love. Become a champion in their eyes. Give a little, and change lives forever.
