Top of the shearlings came from SC Walker’s pen at £700, better end sorts in the £600’s with the next draw £400-£480. The lesser Suffolk Shearling from SC Walker quality types looking well sold £180-£250. realising £700 XBR - 52 Forward 3 Shr Rams £400 W & D Lawson & Son, Masongill £400 Shlg Rams £1400 T Craddock & Son, £410 Bolton by Bowland Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): As expected, quality Beltex x in strong demand, the best from T Craddock, Bolton by Bowland at £1400 whilst RC Robin- son realised £700, £800 and £900 topping at £1050. Beltex x Texel Shearling from T Craddock & Sons realising £1400 Plenty of others £500-£650, the next bracket £400- £480 BELTEX - 19 Forward Shlg Rams £600 MR & JE Davis, Eldroth £362 Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): A good show of Beltex Shearlings, Mike Davis leading the way with the pure Beltex at £600 with others at £500, matched by Mark Shaw, High Peak. Best pure Beltex £400+ with many others £300-£400. Beltex Shearling from M Davis realising £600 TEXEL - 96 Forward Auctioneer’s Report: 4 Shr Rams £200 JJ & M Metcalfe & Sons, Casterton £200 (Greg MacDougall): All types good to sell 3 Shr Rams £380 EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellett £380 with near enough 2 Shr Rams £310 P Keyes, Salwick £295 100% clearance. As Shlg Rams £900 DA Towell, Keighley & £449 usual, strong sorts the A & HC Smith, Hawick best to sell with £900 being achieved on Ram Lambs £350 Firm of G Gray, Selkirk £265 two occasions, firstly from DA Towell, Keighley with first time vendor A & HC Smith, Crumhaughhill equalling the top price later in the sale. WJ & JG Bell, Kinninghall once again showing a nice run topping at £850 twice with local vendor JT & J Kelsall next at £720. Strong tups in general £600-£800 with commercial sorts £350-£450. Noted breed David Newbould realised £320 whilst others better tups found homes between £200-£300. A handful of females sold to a top of £190 again from David Newbould, Ripon, with a smart lamb, his second at £180, matched by GF Harker, Harrogate with their gimmer shearling . Shearling rams as always in strong demand averaging £697.15, up £247 on the year. Ram lambs also getting away well averaging £569.26, up by £200 on last year. Topping the sale was a shearling ram from the Gragareth Flock of W & D Lawson & Son, Parr Bank. The ram, sired by Gragareth H5 out of a Kentmere Hall H1 ewe sold for £4800 joining Geoff & Josh Ryder of Harrogate. David & Robin Booth’s Smearsett Flock were again well followed with their first shearling sire by Smearsett G11 out of a W002 Harland ewe selling for £4100 to Messrs Dobson of Bishop Auckland, The Booths also sold shearlings to £3500, £3000, £2800, £2600 & £2200. Other leading prices for shearling rams included Chris & Tessa Hewitt selling their Riddings sired ram at £3000 and a Cherry Tree shearling at £1400. JC Walker & Son, (Brennand) selling shearlings at £1800, £1200 and £1100; J Huddleston, Ravenscar £1600 , £1100; H Huddleston & Son, Snab Green £1300; JR & J Gorst, Appletree Farm £1200. A top price in the lamb section was achieved by Abbey White of Hillside making £2600 for her lamb sired by Ribblesdale M2 our of a Carryhouse Jackpot ewe, the successful bidder being Paul Hallam of High Birkwith. Other leading lamb prices included AC & K Pye & Son, Dunken- shaw £1600, £1400 & £1100; WA & A Booth, Old Hall £1600; W & D Lawson & Son, Parr Bank £1500; WH Hutchinson & Son, Redgate £1300; R & PE Hargreaves & Son, Barley £1000 & MR Thornborrow, Dawyck £1000 TUESDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER CAST COWS– 23 FORWARD B + W Cows to £998.40 from J & M Whitfield & Sons or 134p from R & Butterfield CTL Cows to £1097.10 from ST & JE Foster or 146p from G Parker & Co Bulls to £984 or 160p from DJ Charnley Auctioneer’s Report (Stephen Dennis): A lighter show of cast cows and more could easily have been sold. Better B+W cows generally 120p-130p/kg topping at 134p/kg from R & E Butterfield, Linghaw and averaging a very respectable 116p/kg, bearing in mind the general lack of flesh on offer. Beef x cows good to sell topped by Carol Parker making 146p/kg with a 44mo Angus x heifer whilst Simon Foster of Calton grossed £1097 with a Here cow weighing 795kg. Bulls to 160p/kg for a 20mo old Hereford from David Charnley. STIRKS - 556 FORWARD Auctioneer’s Report (Will BREED TOP FROM AV Alexander): The largest entry of BULLOCKS stirks for some time, considering AA £910 H Halhead & Son, Nether Kellett £666 the numbers forward, cattle would Blonde £820 K Raw, Dent £720 generally sell to full value.
