Guangdong-Guangxi War & Sun Yat-Sen's Return to Canton
Sun Yat-sen's Return To Canton After Expelling Gui-xi by Ah Xiang Excerpts from “Tragedy of Chinese Revolution” at http://www.republicanchina.org/revolution.html For updates and related articles, check http://www.republicanchina.org/RepublicanChina-pdf.htm In Southern Chinese Province of Guangdong, Sun Yat-sen and Chen Jiongming would be entangled in the power struggles. (Liu Xiaobo mistakenly eulogized Chen Jiongming's support for so-called "allying multiple provinces for self-determination" as heralding China's forerunner federationist movement.) Yue-jun (i.e., Guangdong native army), headed by Chen Jiongming, was organized on basis of Zhu Qinglan's police/guard battalions in Dec of 1917. To make Chen Jiongming into a real military support, Sun Yat-sen originally dispatched Hu Hanmin and Wang Zhaoming to Governor Zhu Qinglan for making Chen Jiongming into the so-called "commander of governor's bodyguard column". Governor Zhu Qinglan was forced into resignation by Governor-general Chen Bingkun of Gui-xi faction (i.e., Guangxi Province native army that stationed in Guangdong after the republic restoration war). Sun Yat-sen asked Cheng Biguang negotiate with Lu Rongding for relocation of Chen Bingkun and assignment of twenty battalions of Zhu Qinglan's police/guard army into 'marines' under the command of Cheng Biguang's navy. On Dec 2nd of 1917, Chen Jiongming was conferred the post of "commander of Guangdong army for aiding Fujian Province" and was ordered to lead 4000-5000 'marine' army towards neighboring Fujian Province where he expanded his army and developed it into his private warlord or militarist forces. -

I. Project Context Country Context China’s economy grew 10 percent a year on average over the last three decades. Over 500 million Public Disclosure Authorized people were lifted out of poverty during this time (World Bank and Development Research Center of the State Council, 2013). Since the national law on compulsory education was passed in 1982, access to education has significantly improved. While the basic education cycle spans 15 years, a nine-year education cycle comprising primary and junior secondary school is compulsory for the nation’s children. The adult literacy rate has increased from 66 percent in 1982 to 96 percent in 2015. In addition to improvements in access, results from international student assessments – such as the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development’s (OECD) Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) – demonstrate that the country is home to some of the best performing school systems in the world (World Bank, 2016). This socioeconomic progress of the past 30 years has raised the well-being of the population. China has made large strides in human development in terms of increased average life expectancy, education, and average income. -
Preliminary Determinations in the Antidumping Duty Investigations On
FACT SHEET Preliminary Determinations in the Antidumping Duty Investigations on Certain Frozen and Canned Warmwater Shrimp from the People's Republic of China and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam On July 6, the Department announced its preliminary determinations in the antidumping duty investigations on imports of certain frozen and canned warmwater shrimp from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Vietnam). We preliminarily find that with the exception of one Chinese producer/exporter, Zhangjiang Guolian Aquatic Products Co., Ltd., Chinese and Vietnamese producers/exporters have sold frozen and canned warmwater shrimp in the U.S. market at less than fair value, with margins ranging from 7.67 percent to 112.81 percent for imports from the PRC and 12.11 percent to 93.13 percent for imports from Vietnam. Next Steps: Interested parties are invited to submit comments on these preliminary determinations. The Department will consider all submitted comments along with record evidence before making its final determinations on or about November 24, 2004. If the Department makes a final affirmative determination in either or both investigations, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) is scheduled to make its final injury determinations on or about January 8, 2005. If the ITC makes a final affirmative determination that imports are materially injuring, or threatening to materially injure, the domestic industry, the Department will issue antidumping duty orders and will instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection (Customs) to collect cash deposits on imports of subject merchandise. Companies Qualifying for a “Separate Rate”: Based on the voluntary questionnaire responses submitted by certain Chinese and Vietnamese companies, the Department has preliminarily determined that these companies have demonstrated an absence of government control that is required to be eligible to receive “separate-rate” status. -

The genetic diversity has great signicance to the optimization of germplasm resources and protection of populations, but that of A. villosum is unclear. In this study, we analyzed the genetic diversity and genetic structures of A. villosum populations in Guangdong and constructed a local reference DNA barcode library for the purpose of more appropriate protecting measures. Methods DNA barcoding and ISSR markers were used to investigate the population genetics of A. villosum. Five universal DNA barcodes were amplied and constructed a DNA barcode reference library. Parameters including percentage of polymorphic sites (PPB), number of alleles (Na), effective number of alleles (Ne), Nei's gene diversity index (H) and Shannon's polymorphism information index (I) were calculated for the assessment of genetic diversity. -

Dialogue Issue 4
Newsletter of The Dui Hua Foundation THE DUI HUA DD II AA LL OO GG UU EE FOUNDATION Summer 2001/Issue 4 Despite Chill in U.S.-China Relations, Unofficial Dialogue on Rights Forges Ahead 中 Dialogue between China and the United States on human rights, be it official or un- official, has always been affected by the overall political climate between the two countries. The last official session of the US-China dialogue took place in January 1999, and was suspended by the Chinese government in response to the bombing of the Chinese Embassy by NATO warplanes in May, 1999. The official dialogue has, as this issue of Dialogue comes out, yet to be resumed, though there are signs that preliminary talks on what a new dialogue on human rights would look like and what it might realistically achieve are underway between the two governments. 美 The Dui Hua Foundation’s unofficial dialogue with the Chinese government on national security prisoners has often been knocked off course by the twists and turns of relations between Beijing and Washington. Given the bad start to US-China relations during the first three months of President Bush’s tenure, it was widely expected that cooperation between the foundation and its Chinese interlocutors would once again be curtailed. 对 In the event, the unofficial dialogue went forward. During the first five months of the new administration, Dui Hua’s Executive Director John Kamm made two visits to Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese government (March 4-8 and June 10-14, 2001). -

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Twelve species of urothripine Phlaeothripidae are recorded from China, including two new species that are described and illustrated here, Stephanothrips austrinus sp. n. and Urothrips calvus sp. n. A new key is provided to the urothripine spe- cies known from China together with new collection data. Key words: leaf-litter thrips, Phlaeothripinae, Stephanothrips, Urothrips, new species Introduction The urothripines are a group of fungus-feeding Phlaeothripinae species living mainly in leaf- litter of the tropics and subtropics. This group is generally characterized by the head usually being strongly tuberculate, abdominal segment IX more than twice as long as segment VIII, and the tube usually greatly elongate and bearing very long anal setae (Mound 1972; Okajima 2006). It is generally considered an enigmatic group, not only by its bizarre external morphology, but also by its generic classification. A total of 17 genera had been proposed as the Tribe Urothripini by Stannard (1970), however, the ambiguous generic definitions within the Urothripini in that paper were not widely accepted. Subsequently, the complicated patterns of variation amongst urothripines were discussed by Mound (1972), who treated four genera, Verrucothrips, Ramachandraiella, Transithrips and Bournieria, as junior synonyms of Baenothrips. -
Research on the Tourist Behavior Characteristics of Folk Belief
Advances in Economics, Business and Management Research, volume 185 Proceedings of the 1st International Symposium on Innovative Management and Economics (ISIME 2021) Research on the Tourist Behavior Characteristics of Folk Belief Cultural Tourism Taking the Ancestor Temple of the Lords of the Three Mountains, Jiexi, as an Example Yuanyuan Zhang1,* Huiwen Zhang2 1 Department of Resources and the Urban Planning, Guangzhou Xinhua University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510520, China 2 College of Teacher Education, Shanxi Normal University, Linfen, Shanxi 041000, China *Corresponding author. Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT Through interviews and questionnaire surveys of cultural tourists in the Ancestor Temple of the Lords of the Three Mountains, Jiexi, this article analyzes the characteristics of tourist behavior characteristics of local folk belief cultural tourism from three aspects: tourist demographic characteristics, tourist behavior characteristics and post-tour satisfaction. Researches show that: (1) The source of tourists and their perception of tourist destinations are significantly affected by regions, showing the obvious characteristic of family intergenerational inheritance. The occupation of tourists is mainly business with family trips in form mostly, and the purpose of their trips is mostly to pray for blessings; (2) Local tourists have a significantly higher awareness of scenic spots. Due to family influence and personal beliefs, it is easier for them to form the habit of regular visits, which is even regarded as an important ceremony for family communication and entrusting good wishes. They are also often full of strong emotions for scenic spots, so they have a high revisit rate and a strong willingness to recommend these scenic spots. Tourists from other places get more relevant information from the Internet, and their awareness is low.
