Syllabus Part III
It should be noted that a black belt does not mean that you are an expert but that you are simply no longer a novice.
These katas should be learnt following the achievement of a Dan grade. The Katame-no-Kata is a requirement for second Dan with the European School of Judo and all the others are required for a BJA first Dan. A BJA grade is necessary for Judoka seeking a competitive career at a national squad and Olympic level. Eudo grades can easily be transferred to a BJA grade but the BJA assessor is likely to ask to see a range of Judo including the following Katas.
If you learn and can perform each of the requirements on all three parts of the Shodan syllabus then you can achieve at least a first Dan Black belt at any association or club in the UK.
