“Charles Lloyd revels in the flow on a stellar live album 8: Kindred Spirits (Live at the Lobero)... an enchanting new album…” – The New York Times

Charles Lloyd is an NEA Jazz Master and recipient of the prestigious French honor l'Ordre Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. The critical consensus is that Lloyd has never sounded better. The depth of his expression reflects a lifetime of experience. Lloyd has a legendary history in the music world, and could certainly be in a position to slow down and rest on his laurels. But looking back has never been of great interest to this tender warrior; “Go forward,” is his motto, as he keeps shifting to a higher, well-calibrated gear.

The legendary saxophonist, composer, and jazz mystic celebrated his 80th birthday on March 15, 2018 at his hometown venue, Santa Barbara’s Lobero Theatre, with an unprecedented grouping of musical friends including guitarist , pianist Gerald Clayton, bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Eric Harland, with special guests: organist Booker T. Jones and bassist Don Was joining the ensemble midway. Lloyd’s magnificent new album 8: Kindred Spirits (Live from The Lobero), documents both the sights and sounds of that extraordinary concert. 8 arrives in a limited-edition deluxe box set that includes 3-LPs, 2-CDs, and a DVD of the full performance, along with a 96-page hardcover book and 2 photo prints that commemorate the first 8 decades of Lloyd’s remarkable journey. The album will be available for sale on April 13 after the concert.

His concerts and recordings are events of pristine beauty and elegance, full of intensely felt emotion and passion that touches deep inside the heart. This is not entertainment, but the powerful uncorrupted expression of beauty through music. When music vibrates, the soul vibrates and touches the spirit within.
