Carrera car races with an on-board camera

Salzburg, January 2018 – Carrera DIGITAL 124 is ideal for the young-at-heart. Carrera’s premium class series features sophisticatedly produced and finely-detailed reproduction models for Carrera circuits. Up to four drivers can race around the racetrack at the same time, rocketing to the front with daring lane-changes and overtaking manoeuvres. 2.4GHz WIRELESS+ technology allows sports cars to be driven with wireless control consoles, enabling drivers to move around the circuit completely freely as they race. This guarantees thrilling duels and absolute concentration on the race action – even at night – since the 1:24 racers are fitted with head, rear and brake lights*. There are ten optional speed settings for the slotcars, according to the skill and dexterity of the driver, to allow beginners and absolute pros to race against each other.

There are some really exciting options in the new year, including the first-person view for Carrera DIGITAL 132 and DIGITAL 124 in a car that immediately catches the eye with its red paintwork and Carrera branding. What’s more, in future all hobby racers will be able to feel and experience the race action and speed from the driver’s perspective via the built-in FPV-mode camera. Live video images are transmitted to the screens of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. Genuine motorsport fans have the opportunity to swap and share their most spectacular racing videos – for maximum ‘Motorsport at home’.

The ‘Youngtimer Showdown’ set features a superlative duel for the slotracing fan community. It’s all action on the 8-metre circuit when the Ford Capri Turbo ‘D&W-Zakspeed Team, No.53’ goes head to head with the BMW M1 Procar ‘No.201’, Nürburgring 1000 km 1980. ‘Yes to the Nürburgring’ is written across the windscreen of the BMW in big letters as a homage to the famous racing circuit in the Eifel region in Germany. In 1980, racing legend Hans Joachim Stuck drove this 470 hp beast around the famous ‘Nordschleife’ circuit. All the time he could see the black-and-blue livery Ford Capri right behind him ready to punish the tiniest error with defeat. Almost 40 years later, these super sports cars have lost none of their lure and still thrill and excite enthusiasts of all ages on Carrera racing circuits.

The new sets don’t just put dream racers in the spotlight. Carrera’s car pool also features several super sports cars. First up is Mattias Ekström in his Audi RS 5 DTM. Last season he impressed many with the capabilities of his 500 hp racer, ultimately earning second place overall.

As well as loving the DTM series, many motorsports fans are also fascinated by long- distance races. Four new dream GTs are being introduced to the Carrera DIGITAL 124 car pool. One is the Ford GT Race Car ‘Chip Ganassi Racing’, Daytona Test 2016. To eliminate all remaining faults the Ford GT Race Car was subjected to numerous tests and was also given a trial at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. All this fine- tuning and hard work was repaid in the same year when the Chip Ganassi Racing Team won the 24-hour race in France in its respective class. The Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 ‘Momo NGT, No.30’ is the next GT speed machine to roll out of the works of the famous Italian sports car manufacturers. 600 hp mean it’s no easy opponent out on the track. is also a force to be reckoned with in long-distance racing, sending the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR ‘IMSA Performance Matmut, No. 76’ into the fray. The 6-cylinder boxer engine forces 470 hp out onto the blacktop and is equally speedy at overtaking on Carrera circuits. The US-built Chevrolet Corvette is an undisputed classic in the world of super sports cars. The 1:24-scale ‘Chevrolet Corvette C7.R Callaway K Competition No. 77’ catapults hobby drivers around their home-based circuits at blinding speeds, and at the ‘ADAC GT Masters 2017’ the car crossed the line ahead of the rest of the field. Under the hood there are up to 600 horse power - all ready to break out and enhance every long-distance racing drive. Another undoubted head-turner among the GT racers is the Audi R8 LMS piloted by the Australian racing driver Mark Griffith. The immensely powerful Audi reflects the energy behind the steakhouse chain wild boar livery. The German automobile manufacturers Mercedes are represented in the long-distance racing segment by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 ‘Ram Racing, No. 30’ 24h of Dubai 2015. The 6.3-litre, produces over 500 hp to thrill motorsports fans everywhere.

There’s also lots for lovers of past eras of racing with Carrera DIGITAL 124. Carrera remembers a Swiss racing team that enjoyed so many motor racing successes in the 1960s with the Ferrari 512 S Berlinetta Scuderia Filipinetti ‘No.3’, 1970. In its typical Ferrari red, this racing car attracts stares from far away, before it disappears from rear-view mirrors and shoots past into the lead.

The retro car pool of Austria’s largest car manufacturer can also offer a number of other popular models. The Ford Capri Zakspeed Turbo ‘Würth-Zakspeed Team, No.2’ enters the garage with an unmistakable roar. In the 1970s Zakspeed dominated the DRM series. No other stable amassed as many overall championships as this one. The BMW M1 Procar played a particularly fascinating role in the history of motor racing, not least because the series was only held for two seasons – in 1979 and 1980. Back then the German driver was often centre of attention in his bright yellow BMW M1 Procar ‘Team Winkelhock, No.81’, 1979. If one classic simply has to be included among the vintage car series, it’s the Porsche 917K! Numerous long-distance race victories earned this car its status as a motor sports legend. Few will ever live the dream, but Carrera motor sport fans can ride out with the Porsche 917K J. W. Automotive Engineering ‘No.6’, Watkins Glen Test 1970 with its popular Gulf livery and enjoy pushing it to the limit in their home-based motordromes.
