XIII INTARG® 2020 International Invention and Innovation Fair and Competition was held for the first time in the online formula, in two editions - the main one in June and a special one in November, devoted to social innovations. Due to the pandemic, this formula created a unique opportunity to present and promote inventions and innovative solutions on the international forum, with the opportunity for exhibitors to gain valuable references in the form of prizes and awards. The main honorary patronage over the event was taken by the Ministry of Development. The international patrons of the Fair are: the International Federation of Inventors' Associations IFIA and the World Intellectual Property Association WIIPA, and the main international media partner - „The Invention Magazine". The city of Katowice was the co-host of the event. INTARG® 2020 gathered participants from 16 countries: Saudi Arabia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, , Indonesia, , Yemen, Canada, , Poland, Romania, Sweden, Taiwan, , Ukraine, USA and . INTARG® 2020 is an international fair presenting Honoured Guests and Patrons of INTARG® 2020 inventions and innovative products, technologies and services from many industries and fields - from Online prepared an address to all participants in medicine and health, safety, IT, to solutions for the event. PANEL DISCUSSION The fair program was enriched with a panel discussion entitled: „Should innovations of particular importance for society be commercialized? ”.

Moderators: Michał Majcherek, President of the Management Board of the Accelerator of Entrepreneurship of Akademicka Wyższa Szkoła Gospodarki; Director of the Entrepreneurship Platform of the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz, President of the Foundation for the Development of Social Innovation.

INTARG® 2020 COMPETITION The presented solutions were submitted to the INTARG® Fair competition, under which a group of several jurors awarding prizes and medals. The official announcement of the results of the online competition presented the winners of awards and distinctions for the most interesting solutions presented at the Fair. As part of the Competition, medals, awards and distinctions were awarded.

The following questions arose during the panel: • Do we need to distinguish „social innovation" in the general category of innovation? • A large number of definitions of social innovation emphasize that they are about unmet needs or unsolved societal challenges. So who has the right (or the obligation) to define the desired direction of development of social innovations? • There are situations in which although a good is useful and its production would benefit society, there are indications that under market conditions the good will not be provided in an optimal amount - for example, public goods. Should innovations in health protection, education, national security etc. be subject to free market laws as a commodity? • To what extent „social innovations" are a natural stage in the development of civilization related mainly to increasing prosperity and more free time in economically developed countries? • Do we have a system in Poland favoring the implementation of social innovations? If not, what could be changed?
