MAHIKENG MAIL-MAHIKENG: In their effort to unearth the next Bafana Bafana stars from the talent-rich but under- resourced North West province, Ditsobotla Local Football Association (DILFA) have once again partnered with cement manufacturing company AfriSam to produce future football professionals. Through the financial backing of AfriSam, DILFA hosted the “End of Season Festival” at Blydeville Stadium in Lichtenburg last weekend as part of their continued commitment towards football development for both boys and girls. In a fun-filled event, Dingake Primary from Verdwaal won gold in U-15 girls, Makgwe Primary from Bodibe scooped silver while Rekgonne Secondary from Blydeville took bronze. Florentina won in the U-15 boys section while Shining Stars from Boikhutso finishing as runners-up. The girl’s league has a historic 900 learners participating in the tournament. A CAF D-license Coaching Diploma course is currently underway in Lichtenburg and will culminate with the Grassroots Festival which will see 150 kids from Tlhabologang location in the poverty stricken Coligny cluster, being empowered by the newly-qualified coaches. AfriSam is using the Ima Nathi initiative as a vehicle to drive their social responsibility programme as a way of giving back to the communities from which it operates. “The partnership between AfriSam and DILFA continues to strengthen with our joint vision of getting the kids in our communities to start playing and enjoying the beautiful game. We have ended another successful tournament and we are looking forward to more success in the coming year,” said AfriSam general manager Vishal Aniruth. DILFA chairperson Thebe Sekoto maintains it is important to revive sports in schools and start nurturing young talent, hence the inclusion of schools in the tournament. SAFA honorary President Prof. Lesole Gadinabokao, one of the dignitaries supporting development initiatives, has hailed the Afrisam/DILFA initiative as a pioneer in the development of grass- roots football in the province. Gadinabokao has also urged Local Football Associations (LFA) to work towards a common objective of producing a second professional football club ever in the province. “It is very key to inculcate the culture of sports among the children and get them involved from an early age. As the old Tswana saying goes; Lore le ojwa le sa metsi,” said Gaadinabokao. “Development should not only be focused on the kids, but also on administrators and the coaches. Once you capacitate the administrators and coaches you are bound to have a winning team as the three complement each other”. More or less the whole of South Africa are infected by Rugby World Cup fever. The same excitement and anticipation as in 1995 has gripped the country. For the majority of Springbok supporters it is a foregone conclusion that Siya Kolisi and his men will be in the final - and for this reason the planning for celebrations is already in the pipeline. But what would warm your heart even more than Siya holding up the Webb Ellis trophy? Seeing him holding up that trophy while you are wearing your very own, official Springbok replica jersey! Mafikeng Mail is offering readers the chance to win such a jersey. Get behind the Springboks in Japan by having your photograph on the back of a Springbok jersey in Japan by visiting our website at www. mafikengmail.co.za, click on the SA Rugby link and then register on THE URL until 26 September. 50 registered participants will be randomly selected to have their selfie on the back of a Springbok players jersey during the round robin matches in Japan.
