Radosevich The use of Native American fire regimes evolved in the Klamath-Siskiyou bioregion over millennia. A mixture of Native American and Euro-American socio- cultural management has developed from adaptations to climate, topography, ecological processes, and land use practices. This research incorporates Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) to partially examine the role of tribal fire uses and ethnobotany. Research methods use an interdisciplinary approach to characterize fuels and fire management issues in culturally significant riparian and terrestrial habitats. Tribal fuels and fire management practices were investigated. Understanding past tribal fire management systems is needed to place contemporary Native American fuels and fire management issues in to context for government agencies and private interest that have altered tribal opportunities to continue fire uses. This study examined fire effects on sandbar willow (Salix exigua) in valley riparian zones along the lower mid-Klamath River. Prescribed fire was used to induce sprouting of sandbar willow and reduce insect populations to improve basket material quantity and quality. Results indicate that flooding had greater affects on the structure, composition, and abundance of vegetation and fuels than prescribed fire. A second 3 experiment to compare the effect of propane burning and pruning sandbar willow indicated that propane burning was less effective than pruning to improve stem morphology for basket weaving.

While the Democratic candidate, Cory Booker is ahead, his path to what has been seen as a likely victory has been far from smooth, write Ashley Koning and David Redlawsk. They argue that because of an over- emphasis on individual polls driven by the media, the newly focused critical lens on Booker, the divergent strategies of the candidates, and the national implications of their ideological divide, this non-event has been thrust into centre stage in an otherwise predictable election season. This election was not supposed to happen – at least not on this day or this year. Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) – a rising political star known for constant tweeting, heroic acts, and national headline-making – was on a different path five months ago. Having decided not to challenge Republican Governor Chris Christie for the governorship, Booker was instead planning a much- criticized bid to unseat fellow Democrat Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) in 2014. MEMORANDUM TO: Geraldine Ferraro FROM: Tom Silver RE: NEW JERSEY Political Briefing October 6, 1984 CAMPAIGN UPDATE A statewide poll conducted for ABC News Sept. 12-17, shows the GOP ticket up by 32 points (61%-29%). The last published poll was one conducted July 30-Aug. 6 for the Newark Star Ledger, which showed a 23 point deficit. Mr. Mondale campaigned in New Brunswick last Monday. See the attached article. This is a targetted state for the Republicans. The New Jersey Reagan/Bush campaign, which is chaired by Cong. Jim Courter, has announced that it intends to spend $1 million here. A New Jersey Democrats-for-Reagan committee was recently announced. It is headed by former Assembly Speaker and one-term Cong. Joseph LeFante, who is from Hudson County (where Carter topped Reagan by just two percentage points).
