It promotes theoretically transformative and politically challenging projects that rethink film studies from cross- cultural, comparative perspectives, bringing into focus forms of cinematic production that resist nationalist or hegemonic frameworks. Rather than aiming at comprehensive geographical cover- age, it foregrounds transnational interconnections in the production, distribution, exhibition, study, and teaching of film. Dedicated to global aspects of cinema, this pioneering series combines origi- nal perspectives and new methodological paths with accessibility and coverage. Both “global” and “cinema” remain open to a range of approaches and interpretations, new and traditional.     SARAJEVO CANTON Geographical position Sarajevo is situated close to the center of triangular shape of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated in the area of Sarajevo Plain and sur- rounded by mountains. Average height above sea level of Sarajevo plain is 500m. Area City of Sarajevo: 141.5km2 Sarajevo Canton: 1,280km2 Population Since 2013 census, only preliminary results have been published, but the population of the city’s four municipalities is estimated to be 291,422, whereas the Sarajevo Canton population is estimated at 438,443. Climate Sarajevo Canton is characterized by two larger climate areas: conti- nental climate (below 600m above see level) and alpine climate (above 600m). The average annual temperature in Sarajevo is 9.5°C, with Janu- ary (−4°C avg.) being the coldest month of the year and August (24°C avg.) the warmest. At the same time, on the mountains surrounding Sarajevo, average temperature is only 0.7°C, whereby highest tempera- ture in summer time is only about 24°C, and the lowest winter tempera- ture can go down to the minus 41°C.     Notes Introduction 1. Whether trauma can be narrated in linear, traditional forms is a matter of con- tention for trauma theorists. While Cathy Caruth’s theories are widely under- stood as claiming that trauma is often inexpressible, that might be an oversim- plification of her ideas. Berlant (2001) and Stacey & Ahmed (2001) emphasize trauma’s ineloquence as a way to challenge the primacy of testimonials as the normative genre of trauma, while Jane Robinett (2007) challenges assump- tions that trauma cannot be expressed, arguing that the survivors’ impulse to write—even in syntactically non-normative ways that point to the breakdown of language rather than its ability to fully depict traumatic experiences—is proof to the otherwise. 2. Morag insightfully notes in her discussion that perpetrator trauma has been largely repressed in the vast majority of trauma research (13). In her defini- tion of perpetrator trauma, Morag draws on LaCapra’s statement that “there is the possibility of perpetrator trauma which must itself be acknowledged and in some sense worked through if perpetrators are to distance themselves from an earlier implication in deadly ideologies and practices” (2001: 79; quoted in Morag 2013: 13). 3. In his response to Craps & Buelens, Michael Rothberg warns that “[I]nstead of focusing criticism on the supposed ‘whiteness’ of trauma studies’ subjects, we might want to say that as long as trauma studies foregoes comparative study and remains tied to a narrow Eurocentric framework, it distorts the histo- ries it addresses (such as the Holocaust) and threatens to reproduce the very Eurocentrism that lies behind those histories” (2008: 227).
