NBC TO SIT DOWN WITH FORMER U.S. SENATOR JAMES WEBB AT NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER

Philadelphia, PA (May 15, 2014) – Just one day after the nation pauses to honor military heroes on Memorial Day, the National Constitution Center welcomes James Webb— decorated war hero, former Secretary of the Navy, and former U.S. Senator from Virginia—to discuss his much-anticipated new memoir I Heard My Country Calling. Webb will sit down with Chuck Todd, NBC News Political Director, Chief Correspondent, and host of MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown. The book is a detailed and personal account of Webb’s formative early years through his service in Vietnam to his election to the U.S. Senate.

This program will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. Admission starts at $20 and includes a copy of I Heard My Country Calling. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 215-409-6700 or visiting constitutioncenter.org. A book signing with Webb will follow the discussion.

A self-described “military brat,” James Webb’s entire life and family legacy has involved the military. The son of a U.S. Air Force officer and World War II bomber pilot, Webb attended the U.S. Naval Academy, and, upon a graduation, was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He is the recipient of the Navy Cross, the second highest decoration in the Navy and Marine Corps for heroism in Vietnam. Webb also earned the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts. Webb’s son followed tradition and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in combat in Iraq.

The author of nine other notable books, Webb says I Heard My Country Calling was “the hardest book I’ve ever written,” stating that he wanted to write “in order to pay respect to the people who made a lot of sacrifices for me.”
