The Canadian Templar December 2015 Newsletter News and Report from our Grand Prior In this edition of the Canadian Templar you will find many articles and news items relating to recent world events. As an international Christian Order we all have been affected and will continue to be affected. Although it may appear to be a somber edition, the fact is that we can rejoice in our Faith, and know the Joy and the Truth, especially as we enter the Christmas season. Below is a message I sent to our Grand Commander Col Dr. Marcel de Picciotto, and Jean Pelegrin the Grand Prior of France, immediately following the horrible attacks in Paris. “Dear Grand Commander Marcel, Grand Prior Jean and all Brothers and Sisters in France, The Grand Priory of Canada and all the peoples of our nation send our sincere condolences for the senseless acts of cowardly barbarism that have taken place in Paris last night. No nation is immune from this horror. We must not be intimidated by terrorists and their inhumane actions. Canadians know this first hand and stand firmly Page 1 with our French Brothers and Sisters at this dark and difficult time. Our thoughts and Prayers are with you all.” As many of you know, on November 6 we lost a dear friend, a dedicated and faithful member of our Order, former Grand Commander Major General Robert Disney. Both Robert and his lovely wife Sheila have been to Canada many times. He was installed as Grand Commander at the Toronto international gathering and considered Canadians among his second family.

  • District 9 – a Little Known Fact About the Faculty of Veterinary Science and the Movie
District 9 – A little known fact about the Faculty of Veterinary Science and the movie By CvB Posted on 28 August 2009 Image: D-9.com District 9, the new film by the renowned film producer and Oscar-winning director, Peter Jackson, who was responsible for the production and special effects of movies such as King Kong and Lord of the Rings, is released on the big screen by Ster Kinekor today. Not many people know that some of the scenes for the movie were filmed at the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Pretoria in December 2008. The filming involved one of its Anatomy halls that was converted in a sci-fi biomedical laboratory with, among other things, a space-technology sliding door, and the Anatomy museum, while some equipment from the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital (OVAH) and the Biomedical Research Centre were also utilized. A pulsating atmosphere existed on the set in the week during which actors, crew-members and technical personnel spent time on the campus while life-like 7-feet aliens were ‘hanging around’. The movie not only features some South African settings but is mainly set in Johannesburg as the city that is being invaded by aliens from space. As we all know, South African born Neill Blomkamp, who was also present on the set during filming at the campus, was the Director while fellow South African, Sharlto Copley, plays the lead role. According to the preliminary reviews by critics this promises to be an excellent movie with amazing special effects that were executed to perfection.

  • Mickey Owen Baseball School Along Old Route 66 in Miller, About 25 Miles West of Springfield
July 31, 2005----- MILLER, Mo. -- Mickey Owen was the Brooklyn Dodgers catcher known for his passed ball in the 1941 World Series that led the New York Yankees to a championship. But later in life, the popular All-Star never passed on giving an assist to a youngster. Owen had a 13-year major-league career, including a 1949-51 stint with the Cubs. He retired to his central Missouri roots in 1954. In 1959, Owen founded the Mickey Owen Baseball School along old Route 66 in Miller, about 25 miles west of Springfield. Notable pupils include Yankees coach Joe Girardi, actor Charlie Sheen and former Birmingham Baron Michael Jordan, who was awarded a summer scholarship to the school when he was 13. Owen died earlier this month from complications of Alzheimer's disease. The native of Nixa, Mo., was 89. But his school is still going as if it were the summer of '59. A tapestry of six baseball diamonds, batting cages and forest green cabins are set off the highway in a lush grove of tall oak trees. The 15 cabins are homes for summer players, ages 8-19. Players come from the Midwest, Japan, Puerto Rico and South Africa. They live on the 77-acre grounds for one or two weeks. Each cabin is named after a vintage major-league team. Eight to 10 players are assigned to a cabin. There is no "Devil Rays" cabin. During the summer of 1976, Jordan stayed in the "White Sox" cabin. The cabins are not air conditioned. This is baseball unplugged.

NOVITA PR NEOCON 2021 BROADER DESIGN PITCH Update May 12: We wanted to send along an update on our NeoCon pitch plan. We’ve had great calls with several NeoCon manufacturers to get their take and are also using them as a resource for supporting collateral. Overall, we’ve received a lot of great positive feedback and have developed relevant, timely angles. The manufacturers we’ve been speaking to have given us the most feedback and strongest insight into the workplace category. Because of this and given that “return to workplace” stories are getting a lot of traction right now, we’ve been focusing on our long-lead, broadcast pitches around that vertical and around the first pitch listed farther down below (“Employee Expectations Have Changed: How the $12.83 Billion Commercial Interiors Industry is Designing for Mental Health, Inclusivity and More). In addition, we’ve been monitoring recent stories around the subject and we’re directly responding to these. Below are the recent pitches. We will be pitching the other angles in the upcoming weeks, as well as print + digital, and are reaching out to gather more intel on the other verticals so we can properly target those. We can provide more updates as we go. Therefore the level awarded here should be considered to be only an estimation of what would be awarded. How levels and marks correspond to grade boundaries depends on the Awarding process that happens after all/most of the scripts are marked and depends on a number of factors, including candidate performance across the board.

By tracing the history of science fiction, the connotations that the genre makes and the ways in which extraterrestrial narratives comment on reality can be evaluated in detail. The subversive politics that are created by such narratives, both intentionally and unwittingly, contributes to the perceptions of the Other that are embraced by the oppressive masses and which perpetuate certain types of treatment.
