GALVESTON REPUBLICAN WOMEN “INFORMED, INVOLVED & MAKING A DIFFERENCE” Since 1955 Senate District 14 TFRW Region V **John Tower Award 2014-15 Irene Henry, Newsletter Editor **Yolanda Waters, GRW Woman of Distinction Award 2017 www.galvestonstonrepublicanwomen.com MAY 2018 ISSUE Message from GRW President – Cathy Frederickson Welcome to the month of our Anniversary Dinner, A Time to Celebrate our History. This year we will be celebrating our Past Presidents and the Elected Officials who serve our community. It is also a time to thank all who have built the Republican party of Texas as we travel to San Antonio for the Republican State Convention honoring 150 years of service standing for common values. As we appreciate those who provided a foundation for our organization, we extend a special “Thank You” to those who continue to serve to make this a successful organization and a successful country. This month special appreciation extends to our new Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo for accepting the challenge of leading the “Most Important Diplomatic Corp In the World” as our 70th Secretary of State. Many citizens of our community joined in the National Day of prayer in front of the Galveston County Courthouse to pray for all those who lead our country in striving for peace and prosperity in the world. It was inspiring to see Churches from across the city coming together to pray for unity as Americans. It all starts on our street corners where Galvestonians stood united in song. On May 16th at our Anniversary Dinner at the beautiful Hotel Galvez, we invite all members to please bring guests to come to visit with your elected officials. Enjoy a delightful evening while becoming up to date on the issues so you can spend our summer opportunity registering voters and sharing the good news of shared values from our Excellent Public Servants! The Anniversary dinner will feature our President of the Texas Federation of Republican women and the excitement of the upcoming State Republican convention in June. Karen Newton has a challenge out for our members to actively participate in the process of keeping Texas Red. We will have a signup sheet on every table to join in the “Get Out The Vote” efforts throughout the summer months so we start the Fall of 2018 Ready to Roll Out The Vote! Planning is beginning this month to prepare for an exciting opportunity to learn and strengthen our leadership skills as we will be hosting the State Convention of Republican Women 2019 in Galveston. All members are invited to join in the fun of providing hospitality with the efforts to provide a Royal Galveston Welcome. Real Heroes is a book written by Lawrence W. Reed filled with inspiring true stories of Courage, Character and Conviction. He states that “despite what our culture typically celebrates, it’s not fame, power, money, creative talent, athletic ability or good looks. No, heroism springs from character, the critical element that defines a person. The good news is that character is something every one of us can mold: it is simply the sum of the choices we make as we face new challenges and opportunities” Our speaker and the outstanding leaders we will celebrate at our May meeting are people of character. We all benefit from their commitment to Faith, Family and Freedom. Don’t miss this opportunity to Meet Them, Greet them and Emulate their Courage! The Texas Federation Of Republican Women Urges All of Us to Join them in commitment to : Inspire. Unite.
