Introduction

This document contains short summaries of the 2013 Leonardo Mobility projects which are being represented at the Start-Up Seminar. The intention is to make it possible for you to identify projects relevant to your organisation, we hope this will provide you with an opportunity to exchange best practices and make invaluable contacts within your sector.

To make it easier to find similar projects, at the start of the guide is a 2013 Project Index which lists projects grouped by vocational field. You can then find the project summaries listed alphabetically by organisation name. It is recommended that you consult this document prior to the 2013 Start- Up Seminar in order to maximise its potential and enable you to make the most out of your day.

In addition to this document, a full project directory will be available on our website from July which will show all projects funded under the Leonardo Mobility 2013 call for proposals.

Graduate Employment Opportunities are Greater in Europe 2

PLM Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary This proposal focuses on sending unemployed and underemployed university graduates, in either engineering or hospitality and tourism, currently residing in the North East of , to a company in one of five European countries, to complete a thirteen week placement. The partners are intermediary organisations in Portugal, Ireland, Italy, and the who have links to companies in either the tourism and hospitality sector, or in engineering and/or technology companies and can source the work placements. The purpose of the project is to tackle growing unemployment in the UK graduate market by equipping young qualified people with new skills and work experience in another European country.

The A Fund Project: Entrepreneurial skills for Young Entrepreneurs in Europe

Project Summary This proposal is to send unemployed young people aged 18-30 from the Black Minority and Ethnic Community (BME) in Birmingham to undertake a thirteen week placement in The . The objectives include providing transferable work skills, promoting an understanding of European business practices and culture, and improving employability. The partner in The Netherlands, The Hub, will source placements from within their network of enterprises. Participants will develop their marketing, social media, web, leadership, communication and financial literacy skills. Validation will be through Europass and accreditation will also include working towards Business Administration or Enterprise NVQ level 2 and an NVQ level 1 in employability.

Integration of Agriculture and Forestry in production of essential Bio-fuels

Project Summary Askham Bryan College intends to send students aged 16-19 studying level 2 and 3 extended diplomas or advanced apprenticeships in agriculture, environment and conservation, and sustainable development programmes, on a placement to for seventeen days. Placements will be based on their partner's (Stebakk Videregaende Skole) farm or local farms. Value added includes understanding on how weather conditions affect what is farmed through a cold winter, and how domestic livestock are housed. Europass will be used to validate the experience alongside ECVET to recognise learning outcomes achieved while on placement.

Engineering Futures

IVT New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary This proposal is focused on sending participants enrolled on BTEC level 3 courses in Engineering, on a two-week work placement to a mechanical engineering company or workshop in Austria. The applicant organisation is Aston University Engineering Academy in Birmingham, a University Technical College. Its host partner is HTL Modling, a technical Education and Vocational training School in Austria. The objective of the placement is to enhance students' linguistic skills in German, increase their understanding of the Austrian culture and its working environment, and to start to provide students with a global outlook in a global industry. Learning outcomes will be validated against the BTEC level 3, language will also be accredited at NVQ level 1 in addition to Europass.

The Black Country European Apprenticeship Mobility Extension Project

IVT Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary BCTG, a training provider based in the West Midlands, plans to send apprentices aged 16-18, enrolled on either Intermediate or Advanced Apprenticeship Level 2 or 3 in Engineering, Customer Care, Business Administration, Retail or ICT, on a two week work placement organised by Networz Academy, an education and training centre in , or Internsplus, an intermediary organisation which sources work placements, based in Dublin. The proposal aims to support the participants' training courses, provide additional work experience, and improve motivation and confidence. One participant will have a disability and need 24 hour support.

Living and Learning Abroad

PLM New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary This project is set up to send participants supported by accompanying staff on two week placements to a range of seven partners. The target group consists of various disadvantaged groups including the unemployed, offenders and ex-offenders, educational underachievers, people in or leaving care and mentally challenged young people. Their work experience placements will take place in local orphanages in the partner countries, where the participants will undertake a range of activities. The expected outcomes will be for the participants to gain or further develop vocational skills that will enable them to engage in employment, training or volunteering on their return to the UK.

Spanish Arboriculture Work Placement

IVT New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary Bicton College, a vocational school in Devon, aims to send Level 3 Extended Diploma Forestry and arboriculture students for a two week placement to Spain to be hosted by Alcaparain Sociedad Limitada and Parque Ardales, a recreational campsite within a national park in Malaga. Participants will have the opportunity of working with trees and shrubs not available in the UK such as olive and almond plantations, learn how to manage delicate ecosystems, native and invasive species and pests of the Mediterranean. Additionally participants will help to restore heritage features such as lime kilns and resin ovens. Europass documents will be used to validate both the work placement and the language skills. Participants will also be provided with employer references.

Advancing Birmingham's Vocational Skills

VETPRO Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary Birmingham City Council intends to send professional trainers involved in addressing barriers to learning and employment on one week work placements to their partner, Arbetsmarknadsforvalningen, in Sweden, which was set up by the City of Stockholm with the aim of increasing the number of unemployed people progressing to employment. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of vocational training services in Birmingham in relation to the engagement of people with barriers to training and employment. This will be achieved by undertaking visits to organisations across Stockholm who are leading in this area. During the visits, participants will be observing, partaking in question and answer sessions as well as being involved in discussions.

Art & Craft in Vocational Education

IVT Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary This proposal focuses on sending participants enrolled on Level 3 Extended Diplomas in Art and Design, to spend three weeks on a work placement in either Prague, Czech Republic or Lausanne,Switzerland. The hosting organisations include the College of Fashion Design in Prague and the School of Graphic Arts in French-Speaking Switzerland in Lausanne. The objectives of the work placements include providing students with opportunities to learn new skills, to experience a new labour market, to develop confidence, to overcome barriers in learning and speaking a new language, and to experience a new culture. The work produced will be entered into the students portfolios and included in an exhibition of their work within the college.

Malta Location Shoot and Post-Production Processing

IVT New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) intends to send BTEC Level 3 Creative Arts and Media students aged 16-18 to for a two week placement. St. Martins Institute of Technology as the partner will arrange the work programmes for each flow to be a mixture of underpinning knowledge introducing them to health and safety, introducing Malta, and the history of film making in Malta, location technical training, to on location work shooting film, transcribing interviews, offline editing, online editing to final production and presenting final productions. Accompanying staff will include someone from the industry alongside the member of staff from BOA. Validation will be through Europass and accrediting the experience against the BTEC.

Bolton at Home

Building Better Futures

IVT New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary Bolton at Home, a housing association and registered charity, is working with students enrolled on a bespoke entry Level NVQ developed by . As part of this qualification, Bolton at home has applied to send participants on a placement to Romania midway through the NVQ, to a Romanian partner organisation that works with a Roma community. Participants will undertake two types of programme: childcare/teaching assistants; and construction (repair and maintenance), with the objectives to develop self esteem and confidence, exposure to a new language and culture, as well as improving employment prospects. Work plans will be assessed against the NVQs being followed by the participants. Europass will also be used.

Sustainable Methods in Danish Building and Roof Construction

IVT New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary The project aims to send students aged 16-24 on Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeships in Construction Building on a work placement to Copenhagen Technical College in for three weeks. The objectives are enhancing employability prospects; developing innovative approaches to the wood trade; developing an awareness of other cultures and lifestyles; and increasing participants' self esteem. Participants will log their progress onto the college's virtual learning platform throughout the placement. Their achievements in Denmark will be verified against their UK qualification, an employability unit as well as Europass.

Tenerife International Management Experience

IVT Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary Bury College aims to send students aged 19+, enrolled in courses in either Hospitality, Events Management and Business and Tourism, on a 6-week work placement to the FU international Academy, a vocational training organisation and accredited language school, in Tenerife, Spain. The focus of the project is on enhancing language competence in Spanish, and providing placements in hotels that will improve vocational skills and competencies that reflect training needs. The programme of six weeks is split between two weeks language and four weeks work placement with employers. The experience will be assessed against the UK qualification on return. Language is validated through a language certificate and an employer reference will also be provided.

PLM Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary Capacity London Limited, a training and enterprise provider, aims to provide University graduates with a thirteen week placement in the Digital and Creative industries at either Third Sector International, an international regeneration consultancy in Spain; or Eurohouse, an Non- Governmental Organisation, which focuses on developing European funded projects and promotions across Estonia. Participants will be graduates of computing, audio visual techniques and media production and design. The objectives of the proposed project include: enhancing language skills; improving opportunities for finding employment in the digital media sector, including enhancing awareness about career options and pathways; and improving soft skills.

International Development and Cooperation

PLM Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary Capacity London Limited, a training and enterprise provider, aims to send participants who are University graduates of development studies; sociology and cultural studies; foreign languages; economics; and humanities to either CMS Consultores, a Spanish consultancy specialising in development, ONLUS, a social co-operative in Italy, or The Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation in Krakow, Poland. Placements will be for thirteen weeks with participants working in organisations that are supporting immigration services, human rights, environmental sustainability, healthcare, and education in four core areas of policy research, fund raising, campaigning and volunteer management.

WELDING WITH ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES

Project Summary This proposal focuses on sending apprentices, from Central College Nottingham, enrolled on City and Guild Level 3 courses in Welding, on a two week placement to a vocational training provider in Germany. The work placement is focused on developing skills in innovative welding techniques involving advanced robotics and laser technologies and in acquiring a certificate in 'Welding with Laser Technologies'. The overall aims of the proposed project are to develop skills in welding which will enhance career prospects; develop language skills; and to forge links for future collaboration on new welding projects. The participants will be working alongside German apprentices, focusing on robotics in week one, and on laser welding in week two.

Construction Mobility to the Czech Republic

Project Summary This project will focus on the construction, building and civil engineering sector and provide a two week placement for apprentices to gain experience not available in the UK, within the Czech rail and tunnelling construction industry which is identified as a growth employment sector in the UK. Central College Nottingham will work with one partner organisation in the Czech Republic with good links to industry. During the placement the students will complete units towards their City and Guilds NVQ Level 2 (QCF) qualification in Maintenance Operations. The expected outcomes are that students will have gained new theoretical and practical knowledge, qualifications improving their employability prospects, as well as enhancing their personal development.

Sustainable building for the future

IVT New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary Central Sussex College will work with three German partner organisations to provide a two week work placement for UK students with local companies focussing on the building and civil engineering sector. The participants will be Level 2 and 3 apprentices in a range of construction trades and the placement will provide evidence towards their qualifications as well as use Europass. The expected outcomes are that students will gain theoretical and practical knowledge and language skills in new environmental technologies required by the sustainable building sector, and evidence towards their qualifications, giving them a competitive advantage. The placement will improve participants' employability and mobility prospects and enhance their personal development.

Change Agents UK

Green Graduates for Sustainable Futures

PLM Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary Change Agents UK, a national charity promoting sustainability, with a particular emphasis on supporting young people to become agents of change for the sector. The charity will work with 17 partner organisations, including companies from , Norway, Denmark, Spain, Romania, Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic. Some of the partners have collaborated previously on successful Leonardo projects. The project will focus on the environmental protection sector and provide placements of either three or six months for unemployed/ under-employed UK graduates.

Chartered Institution of Wastes Management On site training and work experience to improve Health Safety & Environment performance for employees in the UK Waste & Resource Management Industry PLM New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary Chartered Institution of Wastes Management; the professional body representing waste professionals in the UK will work with one partner organisation from Denmarkthe City of Copenhagen's Environment Department. The project will focus on the occupational health and safety and engineering sectors and provide two week work placements for 30 potential or current employees coming from a range of professional backgrounds such as administration and operations from local authorities and companies working in waste and resource management in the UK. The aim of the work placements is to learn from European best practice around recycling processes and moving the industry away from landfill disposal.

Broadening Horizons in Vocational learning

VETPRO New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary The Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust will work with one European partner; a hospital based in Germany. The project aims to send two VET professionals working in mental health and learning disabilities on a one week work experience visit to learn from their German counterparts. The participants will transfer this learning back to the UK; using it to enhance the internal vocational learning and development service for staff employed by the Trust. The project will enable participants to develop personally and professionally; identifying new ways of working and initiating change within their organisation. The intended outcomes will be validated in formal reports and logged as continuing professional development achievements.

New Horizons for Learning and Transnational Cooperation

Project Summary The proposal is to provide senior professionals from a wide range of subject areas at the Chichester College to each benefit from a one week work/training placement with partners in either Netherlands, Denmark or . Chichester College, a college from the UK, will work with two vocational training centres from Finland and Denmark and a vocational/ technical secondary school from the Netherlands. The participants will be mentored by the college's Professional Development manager. The project will enable participants to develop personally and professionally; identifying new ways of working and initiating change within their organisation.

Cross Cultural Reality Exchange - Care

IVT Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary This proposal aims to provide second year NVQ-level 3 students in healthcare subjects with two week work placements in . Placements are to be arranged and managed through the host- partner, a state-funded vocational school. The students will be assessed against UK NVQ criteria while in their work placements and will also receive Europass certification. The project will enable participants to develop personally and professionally by working alongside French practitioners in a range of settings including nurseries, residential homes and day care settings. Participants will also gain a certificate in French to increase their mobility to work in Europe in the future. Most participants will be from disadvantaged areas and aged 17-20.

Its NEET to Work

PLM Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary City College Plymouth project aims to send participants, who are NEET (not in education, employment or training), and from disadvantaged areas, on training and vocational placements of twenty-two weeks duration, in the hotel, restaurant and catering sector. The project will enable participants to develop personally and professionally by working alongside practitioners in a range of settings. Participants will gain a Level 2 qualification in European Hospitality-Work Experience in Europe, Europass and a language certificate. Participants will also receive a written reference from their placement employer. The project will continue to support participants to find employment on their return to the UK.

Wolverhampton Abroad!

IVT Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary City of Wolverhampton College aims to send participants from across the creative, motor vehicle and hospitality/catering sectors to undertake two-week work placements in Germany, Spain or Italy. Participants are to be accompanied by UK tutors who will assess their work against their UK VET frameworks. The students will be studying towards full time Level 2 and 3 vocational courses in these sectors. The project will enable participants to develop personally and professionally by working alongside practitioners in their chosen sector and gain evidence towards their UK qualifications.Participants will also gain a Europass certificate to help increase their mobility to work in Europe in the future.

Colchester Institute Comparison of communication methods and education systems of children and young people in England and Spain. IVT New to LdV Mobility

Project Summary Colchester Institute, a state funded vocational education and training provider in the East of England; will work with a Spanish intermediary organisation that has extensive experience in delivering Leonardo projects. The project will focus on the child care and youth services sector and provide a three week internship for UK students. The work placements have already been arranged with the local authority through the intermediary partner and will take place in a variety of childcare settings. The participants will all be working towards a CACHE Level 3 Diploma and the placement will provide evidence towards their qualification and use Europass. It is expected that the placement will improve employability and mobility prospects.

Widening access to horticultural expertise

Project Summary The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, a state funded vocational college focusing on the agri-food industry in Northern Ireland, has a successful track record in delivering LLP projects. The college will work with one partner organisation, a vocational/ technical secondary school based in the Netherlands. The project will be focused on the agriculture sector and provide a work placement of two weeks and two days duration for UK students to gain experience working in progressive horticulture businesses. Participants will be working towards a Level 3 amenity horticulture qualification thus gaining new theoretical and practical knowledge helping their employability prospects.

Developing equine Understanding in Rural Netherlands

Project Summary The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, a state funded vocational college focusing on the agri-food industry in Northern Ireland. The college has a successful track record in delivering LLP projects. The college will work with one partner organisation, a vocational/ technical secondary school based in the Netherlands. The project will be focused on the agricultural sector and provide a work placement of two weeks and two days duration for UK students to gain experience working for progressive equine businesses. Work placement activity will contribute toward the award of VET units in their UK qualification as well as being accredited through Europass.

Broadening the opportunities for veterinary nurses to develop skills

Project Summary The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise is a state funded vocational college focusing on the agri-food industry in Northern Ireland. The college will work with one partner organisation, a vocational/ technical secondary school based in Slovenia. The project will be focused on the veterinary sector and provide a work placement of two weeks and two days duration for UK students to gain experience working in various contexts, including with exotic animals in a zoo. The work placements will provide participants with the opportunity to be assessed against their UK qualifications while also achieving a Europass accreditation.

All Wales Apprentice Mobility 3

IVT Previous LdV Mobility Projects

Project Summary A larger scale proposal to provide VET students from seven Welsh colleges with opportunities to undertake two-week work placements across France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. Participants will be drawn from a wide variety of vocational areas such as law, business and administration, engineering, hair and beauty, computing, childcare and hospitality and will include some Modern Apprentices although the majority will be full time IVT students. Some of the proposed participants would be from disadvantaged areas. Project Summary The Northern Ireland Construction Industry Training Board proposes to send people in the labour market participants to KOMZET, a vocational training centre in Germany. The two week work placements build on a project currently being run successfully with 2012 Leonardo funding, and aim to transfer knowledge in various aspects of sustainable construction and energy efficiency to the Northern Ireland construction sector, as well as enhancing language learning and cross- border cultural understanding. Participants are experienced employed or unemployed workers and include supervisors, clerks of works and contractors. The project will also assist the Government in reaching its targets in relation to carbon reduction in the UK.

Participants are drawn from an area which has high levels of unemployment and participants are at risk of disengagement from education and training. The placements will directly link to their course of training and the project aims to develop their technical and personal skills, confidence and employability. Project Summary Destination France, a work placement organisation based in Nottingham with experience of receiving mobility participants, proposes to send workers in the hotel and catering industries to host partners, all of whom run restaurants and associated catering businesses in Lyon, France. The project aims to send junior kitchen professionals for 26 week placements in selected partner restaurants. During their placements participants will work to an individual modular workplan, developing their skills under the supervision of qualified chefs. The project also aims to address issues such as the perceived lack of professionalism in the UK culinary sector and the lack of trained chefs.

IVT Previous LdV Mobility Projects DSC Regen, a consultancy specialising in the development and management of employment training programmes, will send construction apprentices employed by a social enterprise in East Midlands to a partner in Andalucía in Spain, Gestion Integral de Energías Renovables. The apprentices will undertake work placements in various trades: bricklaying, painting and decorating; and will be working towards Construction Skills Level 2 Diplomas in Decorative Finishing, Trowel Occupations and Wood Occupations. During the placements the apprentices will gain practical skills related to their sector and develop their linguistic and intercultural skills which will enhance their future employment prospects.

Project Summary Greenwich Community College proposes to send students undertaking Level 2 and 3 BTEC fashion programmes on a two week visit to their partner in Germany. The partner is GSECH in Hamburg, a large specialist fashion and design school with close links to employers. This partner has been chosen because of their expertise and emphasis on skills using traditional tailoring methods. The aim is to provide the participants with the opportunity to learn new skills not available in the UK, thereby increasing their employability and confidence. It is likely that many participants will come from ethnic minority groups and disadvantaged backgrounds. GSECH will organise placements in the theatre costume and fashion houses appropriate for the needs of the participants.

Project Summary Groundwork West Midlands has applied for a follow-up project that will place unemployed graduates for four weeks with employers in Malta. The partner is Future Focus, a private training organisation with whom GWM have previously worked with, who will identify suitable employers and projects. Participants, recruited from across the UK, will work in a role of responsibility on their own identified individual projects in organisations in the environment and community sectors in Malta. The objectives are to provide the graduates with transferable work skills and experience, as well as more highly developed personal skills. PLM New to LdV Mobility Project Summary KBM Training & Recruitment propose to send individuals on 12 week accountancy work placements with partners in Ireland and Malta. The four hosting partners are the Four Seasons Hotel, Dublin; RSA insurance, Ireland; IFG Advisory Services, Dublin; and the Vassallo Group of Companies in Malta. The objectives are to provide work experience which will improve skill levels and employability, to help gain credits towards their professional qualification, and to develop awareness of European citizenship and intercultural competencies. Project Summary The proposal intends to take Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence students (aged 16- 18) on a 14 day placement in Spain from the Lawn Tennis Association to Barcelona Total Tennis. During the placement participants will train/run coaching sessions for schools and other groups, developing their skills, knowledge and techniques of how to play on clay, as well as working on their own personal and vocational targets related to their NVQ. The aims of the project include enabling participants to learn new techniques in green automotive technologies, learn a new language, and enhance their employability. Project Summary North West Regional College in Northern Ireland, will send participants on a variety of two week vocational placements hosted by Luxol, a sports Club in Malta. This project aimed at level 2 and level 3 students, aims to attract participants who would normally be reluctant to undertake a work placement abroad. Participants pursuing different courses will work at companies across the region, including in restaurants, salons etc. to open their horizons, learn about a new culture and about working in a foreign country. The college is hoping that these placements will offer participants the opportunity to gain practical skills linked to their area of study as well as ways to increase their employability.

The partner is Hyria Foundation, a vocational educational institution to whom a preparatory visit has been undertaken by staff from Northampton College. The target group will be a mix of apprentices aged 16 and over on the Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People's Welfare, and students over 18 years on the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare & Education. The objectives are to provide participants with understanding, skills and experience of alternative Early Years curriculum and practice. It is expected that the visit will develop personal and employability skills and enable participants to reflect on their practice. During the visit they will undertake workshops with Finnish students and visit work placements where they will observe and take part.

Project Summary Northern Ireland Trade Union Education and Social Centre aims to send young people aged 18- 30 on a 12 week placement to Spain. Participants are from extremely vulnerable backgrounds: from communities divided by sectarian violence, suffering from unemployment, lack of skills, addiction, family breakdown and generally very low social capital. They will be recruited by two partners who work with disadvantaged youth in Belfast, Antrim and Ballymena. Placements in hospitality and tourism companies will be sought by three Spanish intermediaries. The placement will equip participants with skills and confidence to gain work on return to the UK but will also broaden their horizons and provide an enriching experience that can lead to new opportunities.

Project Summary The project will send various ranks of police officers and civil staff to Poland for a two-week placement within the Gdansk Provincial Police Headquarters. The Polish partner has previous Leonardo experience and has partly been chosen due to the fact that Norfolk has a large Polish community. The programme will allow work shadowing alongside community police officers in several districts to compare inner and outer city police practices in areas such as community engagement, schools engagement, restorative justice, road safety, anti social behaviour, domestic\sexual violence, and Police briefings. The wider aim of the project is to enable UK police officers to better understand the Eastern European communities living in Norfolk.

Project Summary Oldham Athletic Football Club, a new applicant for the Leonardo Mobility programme, will send 16–18 year old apprentices enrolled in the ASE programme to Holland to train and play at the VVV-Venlo football club grounds. Placement duration is for two weeks and participants will be supported by accompanying people. The training content will consist of observation, training games, cultural visits and coaching local youth teams. The objectives of the project include transfer of skills, learning new techniques, getting exposed to another culture and language, working with top professionals in a country where sports is a means to getting a job not just in a chosen sporting discipline, but also in other vocational areas. Project Summary PETROC, an organization stemming from the merge of North Devon College and East Devon College, will send students enrolled in the Volleyball Academy, to Graz, Austria to train at Borg Hib Liebenau for two weeks. The partner has a dedicated sports academy for volleyball and handball which is one of the leading institutions for volleyball training in Europe. Students are likely to aim to achieve a UK Level 2 coaching qualification. The main objectives of the project are to experience international level coaching, gain interpersonal skills, enhanced knowledge of rules and coaching methods and cultural understanding of a new country. Training will consist of working with primary schools in delivery of volleyball games, volleyball coaching and cultural activities.

Project Summary PETROC, an experienced Leonardo promoter will send students who are studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Qualifications to Romania for a two-week placement. The partner Asociatia Pro Educatie si Formare is a Romanian intermediary with a wide experience in transnational programmes. The aim of the project is for the participants to introduce Tag Rugby to Romanian students and to organise a Tag Rugby festival between the schools at the end of their placement. Placement activities will contribute directly to the completion of specific course modules back in Devon. Participants will develop new skills, promote development of Tag Rugby in Romania, stimulate the cultural outlook of the participants and help expand links with EU countries for PETROC.

Project Summary Quarriers, a not for profit social care organisation, will send 18-25 year olds to Holland on a nine- week placement. Participants are mostly from a homeless background, suffering from addiction, lack of skills, sometimes with experience of neglect. The sending organisation is partly acting as intermediary, as it will advertise the proposal through Scotland. The partner, Werkcenter Nederland, a private training company is very experienced in placing young people in industry and will source the placements, which is precluded by a six-week preparation programme in the UK. Types of work can include packaging, assembly production, cleaning, landscaping and postal service. The aims are to increase employability and develop essential skills.

The project seeks to generate interest from engineers in the renewable energy technology field and thus enhance the employability of the graduates in the growing ‘green skills’ labour market.

Project Summary REY Europe, an experienced promoter, aims to send recent unemployed graduates with Environmental Science and Conservation degrees from three UK universities to Tenerife. They will undertake a thirteen-week placement working on a ‘research guiding' programme on whale watching boats at the Atlantic Whale Foundation. Participants will travel in two groups between September 2013 and May 2014. Placement activities involve monitoring marine life, collecting data and guiding activities with eco tourists. The aim of the project is to give unemployed graduates practical experience and skills in the environmental conservation industry, to increase their employability, soft skills, language ability and confidence.

Project Summary This proposal targets apprentices in the health and social care sector who are studying Level 2 vocational qualifications. Apprentices from The Manchester College, many from disadvantaged backgrounds and deprived areas, will undertake a two-week placement in Sweden organised by the host partner, a centre for adult education with a focus on health-care professions. The placements will provide hands-on experience of the provision of health and social care in another country and will form an accredited part of the Single Ticket programme delivered by the lead partner. The participants will spend two weeks on a working farm undertaking a variety of tasks (animal care, agricultural work, farm maintenance, retail, administration). Project Summary The Scottish Football Association propose to send football community and grassroots coaches and managers on one week visits to five partner organisations. In Germany and Holland participants will study talent and ball skills development; whilst in Finland, Norway and Sweden the emphasis will be on evaluating infrastructure and methodologies. The participants will be from socially deprived areas of Birmingham and the placement is intended to meet specific BTEC unit requirements as well as developing soft skills, confidence, motivation and self-esteem; and improving employability. The lead partner is an educational charity partnership of education and community providers. The placements will be in France, organised by an intermediary partner, and host employers will include nurseries, retirement homes, community centres, centres for disabled people.

Project Summary Tresham College intends to send engineering apprentices on a two week placement to Germany. The placements will be hosted by two German vocational colleges and their collaborating companies, all experienced with receiving Leonardo participants. The mobility will include placements in companies and in the host colleges’ modern workshops. The aims of this project are for the participants to develop an understanding of the modern techniques used in German industrial engineering and to increase their linguistic, communication and interpersonal skills, thus enhancing their employability prospects in the UK and in the European labour market

Project Summary UK Language Courses have over 18 years experience in providing language, sports and leadership courses to young people. This project will provide work placements for young disadvantaged people, with an initial vocational qualification in sports studies but at risk of long- term unemployment. The project includes intermediary partners, all of who have worked together on previous projects, and will source two-week placements in Spain or Italy for participants to deliver coaching and lead sports sessions in schools and sports clubs. The period abroad will provide them with practical experience as well as developing language and other skills and qualities, such as leadership, organisation and motivation, that will enhance their employability.

Project Summary UK Language Courses have over 18 years experience in providing language, sports and leadership courses to young people and have links with Manchester City Football Club. This project aims to provide work placements for young, recently qualified football coaches who have a Level 2 coaching qualification but who are finding it difficult to find employment due to a lack of work experience. The participants will undertake a two-week placement in Spain with a professional football club and coaching in community sports clubs. The period abroad will provide them with practical coaching experience as well as developing language and other skills that will enhance their employability.

Project Summary This project will provide placements in the radio and TV sector for young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The participants will undertake two-week placements working as Production Assistants or Technicians in radio or TV stations in Turkey or Spain. The aim is to gain practical skills and experience, as well as transferable and personal skills, to help them progress in education and employment. The promoter is an organisation which supports social empowerment and employment opportunities via the arts and media; the host partners also work with disadvantaged groups to provide vocational training and work experience and have good local employer networks.

Project Summary This proposal will provide placements for students of BTEC or NVQ Level 3 qualifications in: Hospitality and Catering; Travel and Tourism; Sport; Hair and Beauty; and Health and Social Care. The three-week placements will be with a range of employers in Spain, France, Portugal, Denmark and Cyprus. Project partners consist of intermediary organisations such as training providers and employers, including hotels and tour operators, which will host participants. The experience will contribute towards the participants' qualifications as well as providing an opportunity to practise different techniques, acquire some language skills and develop their confidence and life skills; ultimately the aim is to improve employability for a target group facing difficulties in the labour market.

Graduate Employment through Mobility in Sport

Project Summary The University of Gloucestershire is a new applicant to the Leonardo Programme and will partner with the Department De Education De Navarra, an experienced hosting intermediary, to place sport graduates in a Spanish work experience environment for ten weeks. The beneficiaries will have graduated from UG within the last three years (including this year) but who are unemployed. The placements will commence in June 2013 and will be complete by May 2015. This will provide them with professional and personal skills which will be invaluable to their finding employment within the Sports teaching/coaching profession on their return.

Project Summary The University of Wolverhampton is proposing to continue a successful project working with a Dutch Higher Education Institution. The proposal is to send unemployed graduates to undertake work experience in The Netherlands. Unemployed graduates from the engineering and business disciplines will have a 12 week placement, those from the art degree related disciplines will have an 8 week placement. The work placements will provide them with professional and personal skills which will be invaluable to finding employment within their graduate profession on their return.

Project Summary The University of Wolverhampton, is an experienced Leonardo Programme sending partner and, in this project, is essentially replicating previous successful work experience exchanges, albeit in different countries and with different host partners. In this iteration, the host partner is an Italian not-for-profit association (Tempo Libero Soc Coop. Sociale ONLUS) based in Brescia and which has, amongst other departments, a unit which specialises in LLP-type exchanges. In this project, unemployed graduates spanning various degree subjects will be placed for 12 weeks in topic- relevant Italian organisations/companies (some, if not all of which have previously offered to host placements). The placements will take place over a two-year period commencing in September 2013.

The placements will take place in 4 flows over a 2-year period commencing in September 2013.

Project Summary Urban Lynx is an independent regeneration consultancy with experience of working within Leonardo Mobility. They propose to send inner-city disadvantaged learners from colleges and organisations who they currently work with in order to undertake a 13 week work experience placement in the hotel and tourism sector in Seville, Spain. The host organisation specialises in various exchange programmes and will have an active role in recruitment as Skype will be used to interview possible participants. The objectives of the placement are to develop professional, personal, linguistic and intercultural skills; increase self-confidence and esteem (soft skills) and develop practical skills in relation to the hotel and tourism industry.

Project Summary Walford and North Shropshire College is an experienced Leonardo Mobility sending partner and will be using a new intermediary partner for this project, the Midi-Pyrenees Chamber of Craft and Small Businesses. The purpose of the project is to take motor engineering apprentices (Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and Land Based Service Engineering) to France on a two-week work experience placement. The flows will take place in March 2014 and March 2015 and both flows will be accompanied by staff who will be involved in certificating the placement.
