How healthy is 12345678901 access to a quality and affordable education at all levels. 12345678901 12345678901 our institution in terms of its pay back to the society, which 12345678901 Teachers have always had a commitment to enrich and empower 12345678901 12345678901 pays not only for our bread and butter but has also at the 12345678901 all beneficiaries through value-based, quality education; to help 12345678901 same time placed us at a higher stratum? How much have 12345678901 12345678901 learners grow up to be fine human beings and assume positive 12345678901 we all contributed both to self-development as well as 12345678901 and fulfilling roles in nation-building. While keeping our roots 12345678901 12345678901 institutional development? 12345678901 deeply entrenched in Indian culture and values, teachers also 12345678901 12345678901 Next session onwards the semester system will come into 12345678901 have to be receptive to the winds of change and responsive to 12345678901 effect. We have already had a number of discussions on 12345678901 12345678901 the regional, national, and global aspirations. 12345678901 how the system will run once the semesters come into a 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 In sync with the fast moving times, colleges in Assam will convert reality. When the whole world has adopted the semester 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 to a semester-based calendar. This is the year that the teaching system, then we should have no reasons to complain about 12345678901 12345678901 the same. The mindset has to be changed. A corporate 12345678901 fraternity in the colleges will come face to face with the much 12345678901 12345678901 attitude needs to be inculcated by one and all. We are 12345678901 talked of new semester system. While only time will tell how the 12345678901 12345678901 already under the glare of so many… 12345678901 new system for Degree courses plays out in colleges across 12345678901 12345678901 Friends! The fact that our institution has been identified as a 12345678901 the urban-rural spectrum, we have a responsibility to give it our 12345678901 12345678901 'College with Potential for Excellence' by the University Grants 12345678901 best. This is the system that will see a 'continuous evaluation 12345678901 Commission amongst so many colleges in the whole Nation 12345678901 12345678901 process' in action. The main problem here - as many colleges 12345678901 is in itself a matter of great pride. Obviously, records of our 12345678901 12345678901 across India have discovered - may be the number of students 12345678901 achievements both as individuals as well as that of our 12345678901 12345678901 in the classes. The impact of critical components of the 12345678901 students have helped our selection. Hope we can justify our 12345678901 continuous evaluation process such as assignments, seminars, 12345678901 CPE tag in the years to come. 12345678901 12345678901 projects and class discussions may be severely blunted in 12345678901 Distance education has entered into our institution vide IGNOU, 12345678901 12345678901 colleges where the class size is huge. Students' strength could 12345678901 the World's largest Open University recognizing us as a 12345678901 12345678901 be a drag on the system. Most teachers have voiced their 12345678901 Regular Study Centre. There are so many academic avenues 12345678901 12345678901 concerns regarding the validity of the semester system given associated with it, which I think we can utilize. 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 the large number of students, diversity in student and teacher I also take this opportunity to thank those colleagues of mine 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 profiles as well as infrastructure deficits at the college level. along with alumni members who rendered untiring and selfless 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 These hurdles could play havoc with the quality of teaching service towards development of our College playground. 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 under the new system. But there are bound to be teething I repeat what I penned in the last issue, "There are too many 12345678901 12345678901 threats and we cannot be complacent". Can we seriously 12345678901 problems for no change of such a magnitude can be painless. 12345678901 12345678901 come up with something like setting targets for both individual 12345678901 Not every student or faculty member will benefit equally from the 12345678901 12345678901 and institutional development to achieve in a particular session 12345678901 new system, and the effort to convert will require careful planning 12345678901 12345678901 at the advent itself? Can we expose ourselves to criticisms? 12345678901 and significant labour. The transition period will probably be 12345678901 Let us be positive. 12345678901 12345678901 frustrating at times. Semester conversion will place special burden 12345678901 May God bless all of us. 12345678901 12345678901 on everybody - staff, faculty and administration. More support in 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 the form of manpower and resources will be required. While 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 conversion could not possibly be pain-free, we have good 12345678901 (Ajit Chandra Talukdar) 12345678901 reason to expect that its challenges can be managed and 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 minimised. 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 12345678901 Crises are opportunities for positive changes. R. Subrahmanyam, Secretary Higher Education (HE) MHRD. The Joint Secretary, MHRD & National Mission Director (NMD), RUSA welcomed the members of the PAB and the participating States. At the outset, Secretary (HE) stated that the North-Eastern and Himalayan States have huge potential to improve the quality of higher education in their States. He sought inputs from those present in the meeting regarding the pertinent issues in these States which may be seen as bottlenecks/roadblocks on the path to improve quality in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and on the suggested remedial actions required. The States responded by stating that improving infrastructure support, quality faculty recruitment, need for change in the mindset / orientation of teachers, improvements in pedagogy, creation of research eco system are some of the key issues requiring focused attention. Language barrier, inability to generate resources by institutions, problems of connectivity (IT & transport Infrastructure) and lack of pool of trained leaders to lead institutions were also identified as some of the challenges faced by the States. After considerable deliberations and based on inputs from the representatives of the participating States, it was felt that systematic long term improvements are required for developing a lasting plan of action. It was, therefore, decided that comprehensive state wise action plan needs to be developed taking into consideration the challenges and gaps identified and a concerted plan of action be developed over the next three months with a view to improve quality of HEIs in this region.
