3-Day Get-Away to Cruz De Tejeda #ParadoresPlans: 3-day get-away to Cruz de Tejeda Monday, 25 May, 2015 Paradores Parador de Cruz de Tejeda Positioned between two natural areas on the island of the Rural Park of Nublo and the Protected Landscape of Cumbres, the Parador Cruz de Tejeda is the ideal setting to discover all the marvels that Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has to offer. It’s privileged location, at 1,500 metres of altitude and at the very centre of the island, makes this hotel with integrated spa, nestled in the heart of nature, the perfect starting-point for uncovering the secrets of this travel destination. What’s more, Gran Canaria is a World Biosphere Reserve: a natural paradise that is well worth a visit at any time of year. So what are you waiting for? Day 1: Natural parks, natural parks and more natural parks. Choosing just one would be practically impossible, so here’s a list with our top recommendations for your visit to Cruz de Tejeda. Get out your pen! Image not found http://www.parador.es/sites/default/files/users/user1067/parador_de_cruz_de_tejeda02._vistas_desde_el_parador.jpgVistas desde Parador Tejeda Hotel Islas Canarias Pinar de Tamadaba natural park Nublo Rural Park (next to the Parador) Barranco Oscuro Integrated Nature Reserve Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga volcanic rocks Bandama Caldera, a route with a 200-metre descent to the bottom of a volcanic crater. The Los Tilos de Moya woods Of course, after such a busy day, you will be ready to unwind in the Parador restaurant. The mouth-watering menu of chevon with almonds, watercress broth, rabbit in salmorejo, Canarian wrinkled potatoes and spicy pepper sauce, Bienmesabe ground almond syrup and Tejeda cheeses, is sure to round off your day to perfection. Day 2: museums and medicinal plants in Tejeda There are various museums in the areas, though we have listed those closest to the Parador, such as the Cuevas del Rey caves and the Abraham Cárdenas Sculpture Museum. The lively and interactive Tejeda Traditions Museum presents the region’s agricultural and livestock traditions and customs, while the Tres Cruces Museum displays traditionally used farming equipment, such as ploughing tools. Visitors will also get the chance to see the island’s typical fish species. Learn all about the use of the most common plants and herbs in the area in an unmissable trip to the Centre of Medicinal Plants. It’s little wonder that this location has earned the name of a World Biosphere Reserve! Take some time out in the afternoon to relax in the Parador spa. Immerse yourself in its swimming pool, nestled within this rural haven, from which you can almost touch the trees and where you can be at one with nature. Image not found http://www.parador.es/sites/default/files/users/user1067/parador_de_cruz_de_tejeda52_circuito_termal_piscina_exterior_0.jpg One final recommendation is to sit back on the Parador terrace and leisurely contemplate the skies above you. The lack of light pollution on the Canary Islands make it one of the best places in the world to enjoy the wonderful sight of the starry night sky. Day 3: a swim on the Maspalomas and the Playa del Inglés beaches Arguably the most well known beach on the island, Maspalomas is the ideal destination for spending the day relaxing under the sun and cooling off in the Atlantic Ocean. A day enjoying the sand and taking a dip on the Playa del Inglés beach is also a must. Book now at Parador de Cruz de Tejeda How to get there: the Parador Cruz de Tejeda is located between two natural areas on the island of the Rural Park of Nublo and the Protected Landscape of Cumbres. Cruz de Tejeda is 34 km from the Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the GC15/C811 dual carriageway, passing through San Mateo and 45 km from the Playa del Inglés. Pinar de Tamadaba natural park.

On this, the second ‘Go Slow’ tour, we were able to enjoy some of the best of the island’s rugged volcanic scenery, appreciating the contrasts between the different habitats such as the bird- and flower-rich Laurel forest and the dramatic ravines, and the bare rain-starved slopes of the south. The sunset from the edge of the Big Caldera in the central mountains, the wonderful boat trip, with our close encounters with Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Cory’s Shearwater, the Gran Canarian Blue Chaffinch and the vagrant Abyssinian Roller, the echoes of past cultures in the caves of Guayadeque, and the beauty of the Botanic Garden with its Giant Lizards were just some of the many highlights. There was also time to relax and enjoy the pools in our delightful hotel overlooking the sea. Good weather with plenty of sunshine, comfortable accommodation, delicious food and great company all made for an excellent week.
