Update: HMH COVID-19 Situational Analysis The number of HMH inpatients who tested positive for COVID-19 or are awaiting COVID-19 test results has decreased 3.9% since yesterday. This statistic includes our long-term care facilities. The volume of COVID-19 patients at our remained relatively flat with a .28% increase.

New: Happy Nurses’ Week!

While the World Health Organization dedicated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse,” today begins the official start of Nurses’ Week. We can’t thank our HMH nurses for everything they do each and everyday. They are the heart and soul of our organization, providing compassionate care to our patients.

New: Hats Off to our HMH Teachers Teacher Appreciation Week is one of many celebrations in the month of May. From all those who are instructing our tiniest minds at our child care facilities, those teaching our future doctors at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University, our teachers at East Mountain School at Carrier Clinic, those demonstrating the latest technologies at our stimulation labs, as well as the educators at our schools of nursing, we applaud you and everyone in between who educate and inform as part of their everyday roles.

New: Epic Upgrade and Downtime Notification The next quarterly upgrade to the Epic system is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2020. This upgrade will include changes to Epic applications to increase efficiency, improve care delivery, and meet new regulatory requirements. The major change in this upgrade will be Storyboard, a tool that provides quicker access to key details and common actions without switching screens.

Beginning May 18  Online training will begin for all Epic users to learn more about the new functionality.  Application-specific educational materials will be available beginning May 18 on the Epic Learning Home Dashboard and on the Epic Resource Center.  Team members can also preview upgrade changes in the Epic Playground beginning May 18.

New: Governor Announces Emergency Graduate Licensure Program Yesterday, Governor Phil Murphy and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced the emergency graduate licensure program, which is open to individuals applying for licensure within six months of graduating from the following programs:

• Accredited registered professional nursing (RN); • Practical nursing (LPN); • Physician assistant; • Pharmacy education and training located in New Jersey; and • Accredited respiratory care therapy education and training located in any state.

Applications are now being accepted. Individuals will not be eligible if they have failed the relevant licensing examination and will be dropped from the program if they fail the exam after receiving an emergency license. Graduates licensed through this program will be eligible to work only under supervision in an acute care facility licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health. The program will end automatically at the conclusion of the COVID-19 state of emergency and public health emergency. For more information on the program, please review the FAQs here.

Governor Murphy Extends Public Health Emergency Through June 5, 2020 Today, Governor Murphy signed an executive order to extend the public health emergency by 30 days, through at least June 5, 2020. The state of emergency remains in place indefinitely, but the governor said the public-health emergency expires after 30 days. Click here to read the article on NJ.com.

The team is holding their “Hearts of Hope” they recently received as a thank you for the work they are doing during the pandemic.
