CAMARILLO SCHOLASTIC ACADEMY, Camarillo, California 1992-1998 Camarillo Scholastic Academy was a private elementary school that grew out of a request to home school several children. Within three years, the school grew from a meager beginning of 16 students to 85 students with 7 faculty. Founder/Director/Teacher Responsible for establishing and leading the school including personnel, curriculum, communication, assessment, budget, facilities, marketing, fund-raising, and admissions. Developed, planned and implemented curriculum; evaluated students’ needs and developed curriculum to meet the needs of the children in grades K-6; provided a safe, nurturing environment which stimulated learning; worked closely with parents and community; designed a physical environment that supported differentiated instruction, active learning, and differing learning styles; worked with exceptional children of all ages (gifted, ADHD, learning needs, differing races and socioeconomic backgrounds); helped children to develop positive self-esteems; and challenged children to stretch themselves as thinkers. Served as President of the Board of Directors, Headmaster, and Lead Teacher CARDEN SCHOOL, Camarillo, California 1989-1992 The Carden School is a private pre-K -8th grade school where learning occurs using the Carden method. Teacher Responsible for teaching approximately 20 children in a self-contained classroom each year—one year with kindergarten children and two years with 2nd graders. Planned and delivered school curriculum; developed a school-wide program focusing on communication, problem solving skills, assertiveness training, and social skills training; implemented “circles of care” for grades 5, 6, 7, and 8; worked closely with parents providing parent learning communities; and educated and trained faculty in social skills, curriculum development, and classroom management. THE COLLEGE SCHOOL, Webster Groves, Missouri 1981- 1989 The College School is a private pre-K through 8th grade school that uses an integrated, experiential, thematic-approach to learning. Lead Teacher Responsible for teaching approximately 32 children in a team setting where classroom grades were combined. Analyzed student capabilities and disabilities in order to develop and implement appropriate programming; created curriculum experiential in nature while incorporating academic skills; taught mathematical skills and applications through algebra; taught classes and subject areas to intermediate grades (4, 5, 6); wrote and published a curriculum and policy guide for grades 4, 5, 6; presented workshops throughout the St. Louis area addressing topics such as dealing with the gifted child, gifted education, thematic teaching, and building positive self-esteem to parents and educators; organized, scheduled, and implemented experiences inside and outside of class settings; and conducted social skills groups which focused on shaping behaviors and taking social action. Worked with faculty to establish a culture of assessment at the college, which has transformed into a culture of learning. Developed a comprehensive assessment system and worked with faculty to implement outcome-based assessment of student learning and create college-wide learning outcomes. Co-led the process for reaffirmation of accreditation with Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of North Central Association. Co-chaired the Principia HLC Academy team that developed departmental program reviews with integrated outcome-based assessment of student learning. Established the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). My team and I have created multiple programs for faculty and students. Hundreds of students and nearly all faculty have benefitted from this center. Established, developed, and implemented faculty development programming, including the following: orientation workshops for new faculty, pre-term and post-term professional development workshops for faculty and academic staff, multiple learning communities, and the graduate teaching internship program. Participated on the Core Academic Planning team to inform design of building renovations for the three primary academic buildings.
