This is the second single to be released from "The Best Of Hardfloor" album and is one of two promos which feature an array of very impressive remixes. The original has been included on this promo and as you probably already know is a classic 303 led dancefloor monster. Cut La Roc on the other hand have injected their fat and funky beats and added some tribal bongos. At the halfway mark an ethereal breakdown makes way for the squelchy bass which gives the track that extra kick. Bill and Ben present us with yet another angle... keeping the funky drums and bongo feel they've added some heavy dub drums on the bass side and some nice touches with reverb guitar. Again, this along with the other promo makes this another fine package from Eye Q and should get the recognition it deserves." • Dancing in the Technoculture Hillegonda C Rietveld
Dancing in the Technoculture Hillegonda C Rietveld To be published in: Simon Emmerson (Ed)(2018) The Routledge Research Companion To Electronic Music: Reaching Out With Technology. London and New York: Routledge Abstract This chapter will address a transnational network of relationships within electronic dance music in the context of the machine aesthetic of techno. It will be shown that a sense of a global music scene is nevertheless possible. Beyond historically shaped post-colonial and socio-economic links that underpin a range of global popular cultural forms, the techno aesthetic arguably responds to, and inoculates against, a sense of post-human alienation and a dominance of electronic communication and information technologies of the technoculture. Accompanied by a form of futurism, techno scenes embrace the radical potential of information technologies in a seemingly deterritorialised manner, producing locally specific responses to the global technoculture that can differ in aesthetics and identity politics. In this sense, the electronic dance music floor embodies a plurality of competing “technocracies”. Introduction This chapter addresses transnational, yet locally definable, electronic dance music culture as it engages with and intervenes globalising experiences of urbanised life, and the digitally networked information and communication technologies that characterise and dominate what is currently know as “the technoculture” (Shaw, 2008; Robins and Webster, 1999; Constance and Ross, 1991). Electronic dance music, as it developed

  • The Remixes of Andrew Weatherall
The Remixes of Andrew Weatherall Music | Bittles’ Magazine: The music column from the end of the world Throughout its brief history the remix has been a vital part of dance music. It allows producers, DJs and engineers to re-interpret a song, add a phat beat and make it relevant for the dance floor. The art of a good remix is to re-interpret the original song and take it somewhere the band, singer, producer didn’t even know it could go. By JOHN BITTLES Andrew Weatherall at Rough Trade East, London, for RSD 2009. Photo by Tom McShane. Many an artist has built both a reputation and a career through remixing other peoples‘ work. From Tom Moulton, Larry Levan, Danny Krivit in the 70s and early 80s, Hardfloor, Sasha and Carl Craig in the 90s, to Ewan Pearson, Mark E, and DJ Sprinkles today. Ever since his very first remix of Hallelujah in 1989 one name has stood head and shoulders above the rest . During a rich, varied career he has sculpted and improved tracks by the likes of The Horrors, The Orb, Manic Street Preachers, My Bloody Valentine, James, Björk, Primal Scream, New Order to name but a few. With over 100 remixes to his name Andrew Weatherall is one of the greatest exponents of this skill that you will ever hear. Born in 1963 in Windsor he first came to prominence through the culture and acid house fanzine Boy’s Own, (which later started up its own record label Junior Boys Own). He was there for the birth of acid house, DJing at Danny Rampling’s Shoom, Paul Oakenfold’s Future/Spectrum, Nicky Holloway’s Trip, and many more.

Side A is 45 RPM, side B is 33 1/3 RPM Comments about Pangea E.P. - Metacid Alianyau Genius release. All three tracks are great.First off, the original mix of Poisonous exudes a sort of bouncy, floaty vibe, but still contains enough snarl and bite to come across as a fist-pumping, floor- stamping bit of acid techno. It's somehow simultaneously both light and dark in tone. Top notch, 5/5.Surprising no one, Hardfloor supersaturates the 303 work for their remix of Poisonous, while also slowing down the pace to a tempo more in the vein of acid house. The acid lines, the handful of glorious build-and-release segments, and the overall "Hardfloor" sound---they're all there, in radiant brilliance. 5/5, for sure. My only comment of a more critical nature would be that I think the track is a bit slow; I've been spinning this piece at around 6% faster than default. Finally, Acidsphere--- perhaps the sleeper track on this release---should not be overlooked.
