ISKCON Law 6.4.7.2, from the section “Specifically Outlawed Doctrines and Practices” (amended, 1999) 6.4.7.2 “RtVikism” aka “Posthumous RtVik Theory,” “Post-Samadhi-RtVik Theory,” “Proxy Initiation Theory,” “No Change Theory,” etc. The doctrine that Srila Prabhupada desired to continue to act as diksa guru after his departure from this world and did not desire any of his disciples to give diksa in succession after him is a dangerous philosophical deviation. RtVikism directly goes against the principle of parampara itself (of succes- sive diksa-and siksa gurus), which sustains the pure teachings and practices of Krsna conscious- ness. This principle has been established by Krsna and is upheld by all Vaisnava-acaryas. Indeed, it is accepted by all followers of Vedic culture. RtVikism is thus an extreme deviation. It is utterly erroneous to espouse it, deluding and misguiding to teach it, and blasphemous to attribute it to Srila Prabhupada.     Where the Rtvik People are Wrong by Jayadvaita Swami (January 1996) If Srila Prabhupada didn't clearly and definitely say it, and if it first came up after 1977, whatever it is, don't trust it. ÐRule of Thumb The purpose of this paper is to deal with a particular theory of how Srila Prabhupada intended devotees in ISKCON to receive initiation after his physical departure. We'll come to the controversies shortly, but first let's look at what we all agree on. What all of us agree on Forget for a moment that Srila Prabhupada has physically disappeared. Put aside questions of what should happen in modern-day ISKCON. For the moment, let's just look at the standard teaching Srila Prabhupada gave us about the disciplic succession. I apologize for presenting a piece of my own writing from BACK TO GODHEAD, but I think it gives a reasonably concise summary that any ISKCON devotee would agree with. Here it is. From Master to Disciple The parampara is the chain of spiritual masters and disciples through which Krsna consciousness is taught and received. In Bhagavad-gita Lord Krsna says, ªI taught this ancient science of yoga to the sun-god, Vivasvan. Vivasvan taught it to his son Manu. And Manu taught it to his son Iksvaku. In this way, through the system of parampara, disciplic succession, the science was understood by the saintly kings.º In the parampara system, then, the original teacher, the original spiritual master, is Lord Krsna, God Himself. The Lord gives perfect knowledge, and that knowledge is handed down from master to disciple.

So far we have been trying our best to contain this within the institution. However, it has become necessary today, unfortunately, to disseminate the sensitive information of purely internal nature in this paper. Our adversaries are exploiting our silence by perpetrating false and maligning propaganda against the devotees of ISKCON-Bangalore, even more vigorously than ever before, in order to demean our cause, and sidestep the real issue. As supporters and donors of this organization, we believe it is your right to be informed by us of the real issues that have transpired in this matter. In this second issue, we present more details concerning the developments in ISKCON post 1977. (For internal circulation) In 1965, at the age of seventy, Sri Srimad A.C. too taught this principle.
