Mogwai – As the Love Continues
Mogwai – As The Love Continues (1:01:24, Digital, CD, Vinyl, Rock Action Records/[PIAS]/Rough Trade, 2021) Neun vollwertige Studioalben und diverse Live-Aufnahmen, Soundtracks und EPs haben uns Mogwai bisher in ihren 26 Jahren Bandgeschichte beschert und dabei den Sound des Post Rock- Genres so sehr geprägt wie kaum eine andere Band. „As The Love Continues“ ist nun das zehnte reguläre Album der Schotten und erscheint exakt ein Vierteljahrhundert nach deren Debütsingle ‚Turner’/’Lower‘ und nur wenige Monate nach dem Soundtrack für die Serie „ZeroZeroZero“. Und schon nach wenigen Takten ist „As The Love Continues“ eindeutig als Mogwai-Album identifizierbar. Sprich, auf dem neuen Album der Formation aus Glasgow ist (fast) alles beim Alten geblieben. Langweilig wird es dadurch allerdings nicht, denn auf „As The Love Continues“ spielen Stuart Braithwaite (Gitarre), Dominic Aitchison (E-Bass, Gitarre), Martin Bulloch (Schlagzeug) und Barry Burns (Keyboard, Flöte, Gitarre, Bass) noch immer Post Rock auf aller höchstem Niveau. „As The Love Continues“ beginnt in Form von ‚To The Bin My Friend, Tonight We Vacate Earth‘ mit sehr dezenten Tönen, sanftem Schlagzeugspiel und sparsamen Melodien. Ganz in Bandtradition legen die Schotten im Laufe dieses Stücks Soundschicht um Soundschicht übereinander, bevor der Einsatz verzerrter Gitarren und die so Mogwai-typische Laut-Leise- Dynamik das Stück in einer voluminösen, aber dennoch organischen Wall of Sound zu Ende gehen lassen. Das anschließende ‚Here We, Here We, Here We Go Forever‘ wird durch piepende Synthesizer-Sounds eingeleitet, welche stilistisch an die schottischen Landsleute vonBoards of Canada denken lassen. Die Melodieführung des Stückes ist so eingängig wie zuletzt vielleicht auf dem 2001er Album „Rock Action“, klingt jedoch so, als würden die Instrumente von einem Roboter gespielt werden. -

Ao longo desse período sua trajetória passou por significativas transformações, que trazem à tona contradições e conflitos, demarcando a atuação de um artista em busca de seu espaço, mediado pelas relações de mercado. Nos discos de Ivan Lins lançados nesse período, é possível notar uma frequente mudança de estilos musicais e do conteúdo poético das letras, que revelam a maneira como se ajustou à dinâmica da indústria cultural, assim como às transformações nos planos político, ideológico e econômico, durante a década de 1970, no Brasil. Palavras-chave: MPB; anos 1970; Ivan Lins. Abstract: The main subject of this paper is the production of songwriter Ivan Lins from the 1970s to the beginning of the 1980s. Throughout this period his career underwent significant changes, which bring about contradictions and conflicts, showing an artist’s search for his own ground, a process mediated by market relations. In his albums from this period, one notes a frequent shift in musical style and in the poetic contents of the lyrics, which reveal the way by which he adapted himself to the dynamics of cultural industry, as well as the political, ideological and economical transformations that took place in Brazil in the 1970s. -

Brazil and Switzerland Plays Together to Celebrate Music
BRAZIL AND SWITZERLAND PLAYS TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE MUSIC At the end of May 2016 an alliance between Brazil and Switzerland aims to conquer Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, starting May 25 th . Both cities will host sessions joining Brazilian and foreign musicians during Switzerland meets Brazil. The event presented by Swissando and Montreux Jazz Festival , will have performances by bands Nação Zumbi and The Young Gods, as well as concerts at the Swissando Jazz Club, this place is inspired by the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, which celebrates its 50 the edition this year, featuring emerging talents and icons from the Brazilian scene. “Music is a great way to celebrate friendship between countries. Thanks to the Montreux Jazz Festival and its founder, Claude Nobs, Brazilian music is well known in Switzerland and in Europe. Brazilian musicians having been invited there almost since the beginning of the Festival. Joining our forces here for this project is a perfect match!” says André Regli, Swiss Ambassador in Brazil. The most important meeting takes place on May 26 th at Cine Joia in São Paulo, and on the 27 th, at Circo Voador, in Rio, with a joint performance between Brazilian band Nação Zumbi and Swiss group The Young Gods. The show will be a taste of what they are preparing for the 50 th edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival, which will take place in July in Switzerland. Besides the meeting of the two bands, who go through Circo Voador during Switzerland meets Brazil, will be able to see an exhibition honoring some Jazz Festival Montreux icons, including Brazilian legend. -

As a curator of the Berlin-based label Global Pop First Wave focussing on non-Western pop music, Holger Lund sees himself entangled in neo- or post-colonial paradoxes. An essay about the dialectics of westernized local and global pop music and why its decolonization is inevitable. «When you are decolonized, colonialism is not simply taken away from you. To achieve this, I will examine some examples and case studies, specifically in regard to Turkish and Brazilian pop music history. There are two points of departure for the following notes on decolonizing pop music and rewriting global pop music history: one is my work with the vinyl record label Global Pop First Wave, the other the observation that colonialism is not over yet. -
