Roosevelt Sykes' "Sweet Old Chicago" (Imperial Records 5347, 1954) ebenfalls, ist aber in New Orleans aufgenommen. -
Using Green Man Festival As a Case Study
An Investigation to identify how festivals promotional techniques have developed over the years – using Green Man Festival as a case study Victoria Curran BA (hons) Events Management Cardiff Metropolitan University April 2018 i Declaration “I declare that this Dissertation has not already been accepted in substance for any degree and is not concurrently submitted in candidature for any degree. It is the result of my own independent research except where otherwise stated.” Name: Victoria Curran Signed: ii Abstract This research study was carried out in order to explore the different methods of marketing that Green Man Festival utilises, to discover how successful they are, and whether they have changed and developed throughout the years. The study intended to critically review the literature surrounding festivals and festival marketing theories, in order to provide conclusions supported by theory when evaluating the effectiveness of the promotional strategies. It aimed to discover how modern or digital marketing affected Green Man’s promotional techniques, to assess any identified promotional techniques and identify any connections with marketing theory, to investigate how they promote the festival towards their target market, and to finally provide recommendations for futuristic methods of promotion. The dissertation was presented coherently, consisting of five chapters. The first chapter was the introduction, providing a basic insight into the topics involved. The second contains a critical literature review where key themes were identified; the third chapter discussed the methodology used whilst the fourth chapter presents the results that were discovered, providing an analysis and discussion. The final chapter summarises the study, giving recommendations and identifying any limitations of the study. -

It was the key to distributing the Grande postcards on the street and in schools. Volunteers, mostly high-school-aged kids, would get a stack of cards to pass out, plus a free pass to the Grande for themselves. Russ Gibb, who ran the Grande Ballroom, says that this was the ticket, so to speak, to bring in the crowds. While posters in Detroit did not have the effect that posters in San Francisco had, and handbills were only somewhat better, the cards turned out to actually work best. These cards are quite rare. The Futurism of Hip Hop: Space, Electro and Science Fiction in Rap
Open Cultural Studies 2018; 2: 122–135 Research Article Adam de Paor-Evans* The Futurism of Hip Hop: Space, Electro and Science Fiction in Rap https://doi.org/10.1515/culture-2018-0012 Received January 27, 2018; accepted June 2, 2018 Abstract: In the early 1980s, an important facet of hip hop culture developed a style of music known as electro-rap, much of which carries narratives linked to science fiction, fantasy and references to arcade games and comic books. The aim of this article is to build a critical inquiry into the cultural and socio- political presence of these ideas as drivers for the productions of electro-rap, and subsequently through artists from Newcleus to Strange U seeks to interrogate the value of science fiction from the 1980s to the 2000s, evaluating the validity of science fiction’s place in the future of hip hop. Theoretically underpinned by the emerging theories associated with Afrofuturism and Paul Virilio’s dromosphere and picnolepsy concepts, the article reconsiders time and spatial context as a palimpsest whereby the saturation of digitalisation becomes both accelerator and obstacle and proposes a thirdspace-dromology. In conclusion, the article repositions contemporary hip hop and unearths the realities of science fiction and closes by offering specific directions for both the future within and the future of hip hop culture and its potential impact on future society. Keywords: dromosphere, dromology, Afrofuturism, electro-rap, thirdspace, fantasy, Newcleus, Strange U Introduction During the mid-1970s, the language of New York City’s pioneering hip hop practitioners brought them fame amongst their peers, yet the methods of its musical production brought heavy criticism from established musicians. -
Ivan Lins: Um “Ator Móvel” Na MPB Dos Anos 1970
Abstract: The main subject of this paper is the production of songwriter Ivan Lins from the 1970s to the beginning of the 1980s. Throughout this period his career underwent significant changes, which bring about contradictions and conflicts, showing an artist’s search for his own ground, a process mediated by market relations. In his albums from this period, one notes a frequent shift in musical style and in the poetic contents of the lyrics, which reveal the way by which he adapted himself to the dynamics of cultural industry, as well as the political, ideological and economical transformations that took place in Brazil in the 1970s. -

Little Joe Blue
Little Joe Blue by Opal Louis Nations The clincher that puts Little Joe Blue a notch above most B.B. King imitators is the fact that he took the former’s mannerisms and affectations and added a few twists of his own. This made him an extremely emotive original, aside from the fact that he possessed the skills to write uniquely infectious lyrics like the anguished “Dirty work going on” (Movin 1966), the urgent “Standing on the threshold” (Jewel 1968) and the poetic “Give me an hour in your garden” (Miles Ahead 1974). He was born Joseph Valery Jnr. in Vicksburg, Miss. on September 23, 1934 to Abraham Fields and Willie Hodges. He was raised across the Mississippi River in Tallulah, La. through the 1940s then moved to Detroit. As a youngster in Tallulah, Joseph came to be called “Little Joe Blue” because he constantly played Eugene Field’s traditional “Little boy blue” on his harmonica. His first encounters with the blues were in Vicksburg at the Green Lantern dance hall where he snuck around the back and peeked in the door. Jimmy Liggins and T-Bone Walker, among others, played there. From 1951-53 he served in the U.S. Army and was posted out to the Korean front. With a natural propensity to use his hands, he worked on auto assembly lines before he started (at the urging of his hero B.B. King) entering talent shows and sit-in gigs with local bands as a stand-up singer. One of these gigs involved the great “Bobo” Jenkins from Forkland, Alabama. -
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: an Analysis Into Graphic Design's
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time. -
