Fri, Jan 4 at 9pm Joshua Van Ness & MOR Led by singer-songwriter Joshua Van Ness, the New Jersey-based rock band MOR comprises Jonathan Andrew (bass), Joe Beninati, and Eric Blankenship (guitar). The band performs original compositions, penned by Van Ness and Andrew, as well as a variety of songs by rock, soul, and folk legends.

Sat, Jan 5 at 9pm BT3 (Ben Tyree Trio) Jazz-funk trio BT3 is led by guitarist and composer Ben Tyree, who has worked with artists including Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio), the Family Stand, and MuthaWit. The group—which is known for grafting together jazz, funk, and rock in inventive ways—released its debut CD, re:Vision, in 2010 with special guest appearances by John Medeski and DJ Logic. BT3 has performed at the Blue Note, Black Betty, and Rose Live Music and on WKCR-FM radio.

Fri, Jan 11 at 10pm Rebecca Jordan Singer-songwriter Rebecca Jordan was the recipient of the Abe Olman Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a NPR Mountain Stage New Song Finalist, both in 2010. She has written songs for Kelly Clarkson and John Legend and co-wrote five songs on singer Alice Smith's upcoming EP, which was executive produced by Citizen Cope. Called “a smoky, soulful songwriter” by American Songwriter, Jordan makes her second appearance at BAMcafé Live this January.

Sat, Jan 12 at 9pm Beat Kaestli Swiss-born Beat Kaestli is a singer, songwriter, and producer who honed his jazz skills alongside such names as Jane Monheit, Jason Moran, and Stefon Harris. He has performed at the Blue Note, Birdland, the Bitter End, Jazz Standard, and the Stone, and has toured the world with his smooth and seamless jazz. Called “suave and elegant, precise and stylish" by The Village Voice, Beat Kaestli continues his exploration of European song with his latest project, Collage, which focuses on French and Franco-American standards and originals while seamlessly incorporating Latin sounds.

Fri, Jan 18 & Sat, 19 at 9:30pm Black Rock Coalition Orchestra presents Richie Havens Salute The Black Rock Coalition represents a united front of musically and politically progressive black artists, and this January they salute folk-rock icon Richie Havens. Born in Brooklyn, Havens’ body of work spans 45 years and 21 . His legendary opening performance at the Woodstock festival in 1969 catapulted his career, and he soon started his own and was performing on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Havens has worked with countless artists, including Bob Dylan and Peter Gabriel, and he has performed at venues and events around the world, including the 1993 inauguration of President Bill Clinton. BRC Orchestra members Stew (The Negro Problem), V. Jeffrey Smith (The Family Stand), King Julia (Fifth Nation), Akie Bermiss (Aabaraki), and many more special guests participate in this two-night retrospective salute to Havens’ career as part of BAM’s 27th Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Fri, Jan 25 at 9pm Fay Victor Singer and composer Fay Victor has been hailed as “artistically complete” by The New York Times for her unique vocal approach to music. Though rooted in the jazz tradition, Victor’s music encompasses many genres, including blues and free improvisation. She has released six albums, has toured throughout Europe, and has performed in Japan, India, Russia, and Mexico.

Sat, Jan 26 at 9pm Crown Heights Affair Originally known as Ben Iverson and the Nue Dey Express, Crown Heights Affair was founded in the early 70s by bassist Donnie Linton. Since its inception, the group has had a total of 13 members and released eight albums, which include singles like “Dreaming a Dream," "Every Beat of My Heart," "Foxy Lady," and "Dancin’.” Crown Heights Affair brings its -era groove to BAMcafé Live this January.

General Information BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, BAM Rose Cinemas, and BAMcafé are located in the Peter Jay Sharp building at 30 Lafayette Avenue (between St Felix Street and Ashland Place) in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. BAM Harvey Theater is located two blocks from the main building at 651 Fulton Street (between Ashland and Rockwell Places). Both locations house Greenlight Bookstore at BAM kiosks. BAM Fisher, located at 321 Ashland Place, is the newest addition to the BAM campus and houses the Judith and Alan Fishman Space and Rita K. Hillman Studio. BAM Rose Cinemas is Brooklyn’s only movie house dedicated to first-run independent and foreign film and repertory programming. BAMcafé, operated by Great Performances, is open for dining prior to BAM Howard Gilman Opera House evening performances.
