King During the 1970s, the Jamaican people appeared to rise “up in rebellion and revolt to . improve their social conditions” (Panton 31). After a decade of struggle against an increasingly repressive Jamaican Labour Party (JLP), Jamaica’s poor and dissident groups embraced the candidacy of People’s National Party (PNP) leader Michael Manley, the son of former Prime Minister Norman Manley, for Prime Minister in 1972. During the national election campaign, Manley attempted to appeal to the Rastafarians and Jamaica’s Black Power movement. Manley even adopted the Biblical name “Joshua” and promised the Jamaican people deliverance from oppression.

Ska & Reggae, la musique de la Jamaïque. Préambule. "You can know a rude chap By the way he set his cap." Voici ma petite histoire de la musique Jamaïcaine. Le français n'étant pas ma langue maternelle, tout d'abord je m'excuse pour les fautes d'orthographe (Word ne corrige pas tout) et surtout pour ma syntaxe parfois lamentable. J'ai beaucoup parcouru l'Internet pour trouver des informations, éparpilles ici et là. J'ai également acheté quelques livres spécialisés. Toutes mes sources sont citées à la fin du dossier. Sur le site vous pouvez trouver quelques exercices de base pour s'initier aux rythmiques reggae et 4 partitions inédites de Bob Marley & The Wailers. Par la suite il y aura des partitions de Lloyd Knibb (The Satalites) et aussi de Sly Dunbar. Un des problèmes majeures était la manque quasi-totale de documentation sur lequel musicien a joué sur lequel disque pour lequel producteur, la date de sortie etc. Ce n'est que en fouillant dans bien des coins que j'ai pu trouver des réponses. L'autre problème c'est que tout le monde essaie de tirer la couverture vers lui pour s'accorder le crédit d'être l'initiateur des tel ou tel manier de jouer, ou le 1er a avoir sorti le 1er disque d'un style ou d'un autre. J'ai aussi volontairement arrêté mon dossier à la fin de la période reggae avant que ça ne se transforme en ragga, car par la suite c'est globalement des programmations des boites à rythmes et plus la batterie qui est présent sur les disques.
