La classifica provvisoria dopo 11 prove con uno scarto: 1° Iker Martinez De Lizarduy / Xabier Fernandez (Esp) 33 2° John Pink / Rick Peacock (Gbr) 52 3° Stevie Morrison / Ben Rhodes (Gbr) 57 3° Paul Brotherton / Mark Asquith (Gbr) 57 5° Dyen Emmanuel / Stephane Christidis (Fra) 60 6° Pietro Sibello / Gianfranco Sibello (Ita) 65 7° Rodion Luka / George Leonchuk (Ukr) 67 8° Dylan Fletcher / Alain Sign (Gbr) 68 9° Allan Norregaard / Peter Lang (Den) 70 10° Nathan Outteridge / Iain Jensen (Aus) 74 11° Federico Alonso / Arturo Alonso (Esp) 78 12° Chris Draper / Peter Greenhalgh (Gbr) 84 13° Lauri Lehtinen / Kalle Bask (Fin) 88 13° Morgan Lagraviere / Yann Rocherieux (Fra) 88 15° Will Phillips / Sam Phillips (Aus) 97 15° Peter Burling / Blair Tuke (Aus) 97 Il Campionato Mondiale 49er è organizzato dal Grand Bahama Sailing Club e vi sono iscritti 62 equipaggi provenienti da 26 paesi.

  • Veterans Bid Court Farewell Win
CHINA DAILY THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 2012 olympics 5 off track ... TALKING TO HERSELF Two-time beach volleyball gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings has found a way to keep herself from overthink- ing during her matches. “You have to give your brain another job to do,” she said after advancing to her third straight Olympic gold medal game. And what is that job? “I spell ‘pass’ 20 million times a day,” she said. “P-A-S-S. Right when they’re getting ready to serve.” BETTER LATE THAN NEVER Britain’s military has started pulling back personnel from the Olympics Park after a private security contractor made good on its numbers. Although G4S failed to provide some 10,000 workers it was contracted for, it is now sending more than 7,000 workers to Olympic venues each day. G4S spokesman Adam Mynott told AP: “It’s gone as well as it could given our revised position.” The Ministry of Defense says because of the develop- ment, some military personnel have been put on standby. Although there have been a few issues — guards turning up at the wrong place or minor skirmishes — G4S says the security operation has gone smoothly. But, Mynott said: “Given it’s not quite over yet, it’s still a crossing-your- fi ngers exercise.” IT’S ALL FOR THE LADIES A gold medal brings pride to a nation and satisfaction to the athlete who worked so hard to achieve it. Winning can also bring endorsements and riches that otherwise would CHRISTIAN PETERSEN / AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE be unattainable, and etch the athlete’s name in the history China’s Wang Zhizhi drives for a shot against Britain’s Dan Clark (left) and Joel Freeland during their men’s basketball preliminary-round match on Monday.

Tweet 0 0 British sailors win silver medal at Europeans Team GBR sailors Chris Draper and Olympic silver medallist Simon Hiscocks have won the silver medal at the 49er European championships, matching their result at this event last year. Draper and Hiscocks led the event throughout the week in a mixture of conditions, but with a further four races to sail on the last day there was all to play for and anything could happen. In light conditions Draper and Hiscocks scored an 8,11,8,15, which was enough to prevent the Spanish pairing of Iker Martinez and Xabier Fernandez from defending their European title, but meant that their training partners Marcus Baur and Max Groy of Germany overtook them and won the gold medal along with the European title. Fellow British sailor Paul Brotherton and crew Mark Asquith sailed a brilliant final day winning two of the four races, to make a huge jump up the fleet from fourteenth place overall to finally finish fourth. RYA Development Squad sailors Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes finished in tenth place overall with team mates Alister Richardson and Peter Greenhalgh fifteenth.
