See, for example a key by Gressitt & Rondon [1970: 55]: Massicus: “Antennal segment 3 much longer than 4; 3 and 4 not usually swollen; prothorax not toothed at side”; Neocerambyx: “Antennal segment 3 not much longer than 4; 3 and 4 often swollen apically or preapically; prothorax often obtuse or bluntly toothed at side”. But according to Hüdepohl [1990: 255] several Neocerambyx have “antennal segment 3 much longer than 4”. In fact males of Neocerambyx paris (Wiedemann, 1821) – the type species of the genus Neocerambyx have thin 3rd – 4th antennal joints and 3rd joint much longer than 4th as in the type species of Massicus. So, Neocerambyx J. Thomson, 1861 = Massicus Pascoe, 1867, syn.n. All species of former Neocerambyx with really strongly swollen 3rd – 4th antennal joints in males and 3rd joint not much longer than 4th must be separated in a new genus Bulbocerambyx gen. n. (type species Neocerambyx grandis Gahan 1891). Besides the new genus is characterized by regularly oval lateral sides of prothorax without lateral tubercles, 1st antennal joint

The beetle feeds primarily on oaks (Quercus) and chestnuts (Castanea) but has also been associated with a variety of other trees. Larvae of Massicus are wood borers which feed on the phloem of the tree, and the adults feed on the sap bleeding from wounds they inflict on branches. While feeding causes heavy crown dieback, no actual tree mortality has been reported. This species is not associated with any phytoparasites. Massicus belongs to the family Cerambycidae which is comprised of the longhorned beetles. Members of this family are recognized by their highly elongate antennae, sometimes reaching several times the length of the body. This beetle belongs to the subfamily Cerambycinae, typified by a large, undivided, stridulatory plate on the mesonotum. Massicus is a member of the tribe Cerambycini: a group of 30 genera mostly confined to the tropics and distinguished by a rounded pronotum.

The male of Eburia (E.) girouxae is illustrated by the first time and Anelaphus hirtus is redescribed and figured. The geographical dis- tribution of 9 species is expanded, the type locality of Osmidus guttatus is corrected, and Neocompsa intrincata is exclud- ed from the fauna of the United States of America. Read Full License Page 1/28 Abstract Background: Mongolian oak forest is a deciduous secondary forest with a large distribution area in the Changbai Mountain area. The majority of longhorn beetle species feed on forest resources, The number of some species is also large, which has a potential risk for forest health, and have even caused serious damage to forests. Clarifying the distribution pattern of longhorn beetles in Mongolian oak forests is of great scientic value for the monitoring and control of some pest populations. Methods: 2018 and 2020, ying interception traps were used to continuously collect longhorn samples from the canopy and bottom of the ridge, southern slope, and northern slope of the oak forest in Changbai Mountain, and the effects of topographic conditions on the spatial distribution pattern of longhorn beetles were analyzed. Results: A total of 4090 individuals, 56 species, and 6 subfamilies of longhorn beetles were collected in two years. The number of species and individuals of Cerambycinae and Lamiinae were the highest, and the number of Massicus raddei (Blessig), Moechotypa diphysis (Pascoe), Mesosa myopsmyops (Dalman), and Prionus insularis Motschulsky was relatively abundant.
