OUR MONTHLY INTERVIEW WITH OUR MEMBERS OF STAFF Name Steph Fallon What is your dive qualification? PADI Assistant Instructor When and where did you learn to dive? I completed my open water course with BAD in 2014. Paul Gibson was our instructor. It was very cold at Capers and I remember getting a dry suit flood! What is your favourite piece of dive equipment? I love my Mares fins! They are the first thing I ever bought and they are still going strong. I have dived with them every dive I have ever done. Been through a lot together. Name one place that is on your bucket list for diving- .Just one place is tough! If I am paying, it's Turks and Caicos. If someone else is paying, it's Galapagos. Describe a memorable dive: It was the last dive of my Divemaster course. I was guiding 2 divers round the Blue Hole in Lanzarote. We didn't see much at the beginning but then after swimming out of cave we was surrounded by a giant swarming ball of tiny silver bait fish. We couldn't see anything except fish. They slowly moved a few metres away still swirling, I think we may have spooked them. Then out of nowhere came a living wall of Barracuda, all around us from sand to surface! We could not swim through, we were trapped between predator and prey. The Barracuda circled the bait ball then started shooting in eating fish. After a few minutes of that, some big Jack Fish appeared shooting in to eat the fish as well. The bait ball was quite small by the time a small group of Tuna darted in snatching the last of the fish. It was like an episode of Blue Planet in front of my eyes but without the David Attenborough voice over. It was amazing! What a way to finish! What is your favourite dive advice? Simple-Just enjoy it!
