She was on a benefi t and felt she had little to offer prospective employers. Her mother Morna worked in the Citi- zens Advice Bureau at the time, so Nikki decided she would become involved too. “I started with a three week training course, then did a three month probation- ary period in the Te Awamutu CAB.” In those days it was beside the old swimming pool (opposite Te Awamutu Medical Centre) and provided less than ideal working conditions.
