FEATURING

April 22—29, 2019 What is a tattoo? Tattoos have evolved from a European tradition dating back to the 17th Century. They are cere- monial performances of military music by massed bands. The International Tattoo welcomes its cast of over 1500 performers each spring. Military bands, drill teams, bagpipers, drummers, Celtic dancers, choirs and more from around the globe will create this spectacular perfor- mance. In addition to the festivities, take in the Bridge Tunnel, one of the seven engineering wonders of the modern world. Visit Old , em- bark on a dolphin watching cruise, and stroll through Nor- folk Botanical Gardens. Enjoy a Virginia Beach tour with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. En route visit Colonial Williamburg and picturesque Monti- cello, the home of Thomas Jefferson.

Grab your bags, board the motorcoach, and get ready for an exciting and entertaining trip MONDAY to the shores of Virginia. Meet your fellow passengers as our route takes us southeastward to APRIL 22 Chillicothe, Ohio and our hotel for the night. This tour will surpass all your expectations.

The fun continues on the motorcoach as we travel through the beautiful mountains of West TUESDAY Virginia and into Virginia. On the way, we make an overnight stop in Colonial Williamsburg, a APRIL 23 beautifully restored historic city. This evening, we enjoy an included dinner with the group. (B, D)

Following breakfast, we drive the short dis- WEDNESDAY tance to Virginia Beach for a full day of APRIL 24 celebrating Virginia’s tra- ditions on the picturesque Eastern Shore. Enjoy a scenic drive across one of the seven engineering wonders of the modern world, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Our lo- cal guide will provide interesting historical commen- tary along the 23-mile masterpiece of bridges and tunnels that link Virginia Beach to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We arrive in the charming town of Cape Charles and stroll the shops on historic Mason Avenue. Next, we visit Cherrystone Aqua Farms to explore a piece of Chesapeake Bay heritage and take a hands-on tour. View oysters and clams in their natural water habitat as we learn how they are cultivated, harvested and the steps local farmers are taking to protect Virginia’s shell- fish population. We head up the coast and relax over a seafood lunch at the waterfront Island House Restau- rant, enjoying beautiful views of the marsh and barrier islands. Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Co. provides us with the opportunity to find a ‘Made in Virginia’ item or specialty gift. Discover the Barrier Island Center Museum. Housed in a 19th century schoolhouse, it chronicles life on the shore. This will be followed by a wine tasting ex- perience at Chatham Vineyards, a family-owned and operated winery. Our hotel is located directly on the boardwalk and beach and is close to shops, restaurants and sights. Tonight, dinner will be on our own at one of a variety of restaurants located on the boardwalk. (B, L)

After breakfast we embark on a dolphin watching cruise, where we THURSDAY witness close-up observations of our marine environment and its in- APRIL 25 habitants as they glide through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. En- joy a boxed lunch as we travel to two of Virginia’s historic landmarks, starting with the First Land- ing Cross at Cape Henry where the English colonists first came ashore in 1607 prior to set- tling at nearby Jamestown. Walk out on the overlook to see where the bay and the ocean meet, and where the famous Battle of the Capes took place during the Revolu- tionary War. Then a stop is made at the Old Cape Henry Light- house. Built in 1792, this lighthouse was active until the late 1800’s and is currently a Virginia Historic Landmark. You may choose to climb to the top of the lighthouse or browse the gift shop for all things lighthouse-related. Next we visit the Thoroughgood Education Center, where interactive exhibits showcase the area’s first inhabitants. Then it’s on to the main event - the Vir- ginia International Tattoo. We have premium seating for the most awe- inspiring spectacle of patriotism on parade. The experience will begin with Taste of Tattoo: a pre-performance dinner experience with entertainment and southern delicacies. (B, L, D)

First on our agenda is a visit to the beautiful Norfolk Botanical FRIDAY Gardens to see the azaleas, dogwoods and other indigenous APRIL 26 flora in full bloom. We’ll have fun on a narrated trackless train ride through the gardens. We depart Virginia Beach for Wil- liamsburg. This evening will be unique with dinner featuring southern fare and the music of fiddlers in one of the reconstructed 18th century taverns. Over- night accommodations are in Williamsburg. (B, D)

This morning we take in the orientation film at the Colonial Williams- SATURDAY burg visitor center before meeting our official guide. He/she will help APRIL 27 us explore Colonial Williamsburg on a 1-hour walk-through-history tour. We visit several places in the historically restored town, grab a bite to eat, and peek into the many shops & museums. This afternoon we make our way to Charlottesville for a visit to picturesque Monticello, the mountaintop planta- tion of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. We have a guided tour of the home and stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds. An hour or so down the road finds us checking into our hotel for the evening. (B)

Today we make our way to Louisville, Kentucky and the Drury Inn. What a nice place to un- SUNDAY wind, relax, and have an included drink with our light supper. Our group reminisces about the APRIL 28 week we spent together enjoying coastal Virginia. (B, LS) Begin with a delicious breakfast, and then we head for home. The day passes quickly as we MONDAY watch the signs of spring arrive along our route north. It’s been a great time on a tour APRIL 29 “Planned With You In Mind.” (B)
