From Beach to the Founding of America – Jamestown- Williamsburg-Yorktown Student Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival and check-in- Virginia Beach.

Plan a scavenger Hunt on the Famous Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Be sure to stop at the King Neptune Statue for a great photo opportunity.

Evening: Enjoy a performance from Student Dinner Entertainment in the comfort of your hotel.

Day 2 Breakfast at Host Hotel

Begin your Virginia Beach journey at . Here, students will see the First Landing Cross. On April 26, 1607, the first permanent English Settlers landed in America leading to the founding of Jamestown. Also on this location is the Battle of Capes Monument depicting the famous battle between French & British Forces. Your last stop will be the Old , which was the first public building authorized by the new federal government in 1789. Climb 191 stairs to the top for breathtaking views of the and Atlantic Ocean.

Our next stop will be The Old Coast Guard Station for the Surfman Chronicles. Through tales of shipwrecks and rescues, students will learn about a time when bravery was a distress signal’s only response.

Lunch today will be at Lynnhaven Mall, the area’s largest mall .Food court vouchers are available.

We continue our Virginia Beach journey with a visit to the House, built in 1719 by Adam Thoroughgood’s grandson. Here you will learn about Adam Thoroughgood’s arrival in Virginia in 1621 as an indentured servant. This house is one of the oldest homes from the Colonial Period. Our next stop will be the , which depicts life of a Virginia Plantation around 1725. Our last historic home will be the , an 1830 Federal Farm House located along the important .

We continue in the afternoon with a stop at the Military Aviation Museum for a Scavenger Hunt. This museum has one of the largest collections of flying WWII Military Aircraft in the world. Hear stories of contributions made by the men and women of aviation to our country.

Dinner this evening will be at a group friendly restaurant where students can sample local favorites.

Day 3 Breakfast at your Host Hotel Today’s journey takes students to the for a visit to Colonial America. Picture how different life must have been in 1607 when 104 English men and women settled along the . Our next stop with be the Yorktown Victory Center- Learn about life in Virginia during the Revolutionary War. Explore a Continental Army encampment, galleries and farmstead. Students will also stand on the battleground where General Cornwallis surrendered to General Washington.

We continue to Colonial Williamsburg to experience colonial life firsthand. From 1699 to 1780, Williamsburg was the political and cultural center of Britain's largest colony in the New World. In the shops, taverns, government buildings, homes and streets , Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, George Mason and other Virginia Patriots debated the ideas - liberty, independence, and personal freedoms - that led to the founding of American democracy and inspired generations of American and others from around the world.

Tonight, we have Dinner in Williamsburg followed by a Ghost Walk or a visit to Busch Gardens (seasonal).

Day 4 This morning, we visit the & Marine Science Museum for Conversation Quest. Students will go behind –the- scenes and come face to face with Komodo dragons and hedgehogs. Learn about the Aquarium’s stranding program and be eye- to-eye with six-foot Eagle Rays as they swim with some of the most beautiful, exotic fish in the world.
