Mustang (10U) Division Supplemental Rules
Mustang (10U) Division Supplemental Rules West Pines Baseball adopts the following rules for the Mustang 10U Division. These rule supersede and/or replace the USSSA specific Rules. Five Run Rule • A team may score a maximum of five (5) runs per inning, unless the team is trailing. The trailing team may tie the opposing team and then allowed an additional five (5) runs. In the last inning (6th inning or final inning as determined by the umpire based on time restraints) there is no limit in the amount of runs allowed to be scored. Pitch Count • Any player on a regular season team may pitch. There is no limit to the number of pitchers a team may use in a game. • Each pitcher shall be limited to a total of forty-five (45) pitches or three (3) innings per game, whichever comes first. If a hitter is in the middle of an at-bat when the 45th pitch is thrown, the pitcher may be permitted to complete that hitter’s at-bat prior to being removed from the game. Squeeze Play/Bunting, Butcher Boy, Sliding • A batter is not permitted to bunt or implement a squeeze play with a runner on third base. • “Butcher Boy” play is prohibited. • Runners are not permitted to slide head-first at home plate. Runner Scoring from Third Base • A runner from third base is not permitted to steal home or score on a passed ball. Last Week We Read the First Part of Chapter 16 from Luke About the Parable That Jesus Told About the Dishonest Manager
Last week we read the first part of chapter 16 from Luke about the parable that Jesus told about the dishonest manager. That was a very difficult parable to understand because Jesus seems to lift up the dishonest manager as the hero in the story. I shared one possible interpretation that the parable could be about how we are called to be good stewards of the resources that we are given. To not waste our money and resources when they can be used in a way that is pleasing to God. This week we will be reading another parable that Jesus shares. This one is found at the end of the 16th chapter of Luke. I will warn you. It is another parable about money and wealth. And this parable seems to suggest that the way we handle our wealth and money has eternal consequences. We are reminded that parables are stories told by Jesus that used everyday images to convey important messages. Stories which had multiple levels of meaning. The gospel of Luke records lots of parables told by Jesus. In this parable that we are about to read, we will be introduced to a rich man and a poor man named Lazarus. This is the only parable that Jesus tells in which someone is named in the parable. Lazarus here is not to be confused with the Lazarus that was raised from the dead in the gospel according to John. That seems to be a different person. Lazarus is a derivative of the name Eliazar, a name in the Bible which means “God helps.” “God helps.” Some people have given the name Dives to the rich man in this story. -

Christian Brothers Baseball History 1930 - 1959 By James McNamara, Class of 1947 Joseph McNamara, Class of 1983 1 Introductory Note This is an attempt to chronicle the rich and colorful history of baseball played at Christian Brothers High School from the years 1930 to 1959. Much of the pertinent information for such an endeavor exists only in yearbooks or in scrapbooks from long ago. Baseball is a spring sport, and often yearbooks were published before the season’s completion. There are even years where yearbooks where not produced at all, as is the case for the years 1930 to 1947. Prep sports enjoyed widespread coverage in the local papers, especially during the hard years of the Great Depression and World War II. With the aid of old microfilm machines at the City Library, it was possible to resurrect some of those memorable games as told in the pages of the Sacramento Bee and Union newspapers. But perhaps the best mode of research, certainly the most enter- taining, is the actual testimony of the ballplayers themselves. Their recall of events from 50 plus years ago, even down to the most minor of details is simply astonishing. Special thanks to Kathleen Davis, Terri Barbeau, Joe Franzoia, Gil Urbano, Vince Pisani, Billy Rico, Joe Sheehan, and Frank McNamara for opening up their scrapbooks and sharing photographs. This document is by no means a complete or finished account. It is indeed a living document that requires additions, subtractions, and corrections to the ongoing narrative. Conference & Region Recognition Voting Process
Conference & Region Recognition Voting and Viewing Process Varsity Rosters and Stats: All varsity rosters and stats need to be entered into MaxPreps.com (with the exception of beach volleyball which needs to have rosters entered in the AIA Admin). The coach and AD have logins that allow them to do just that, which is accessible by logging in at admin.aiaonline.org. The rosters and stats are needed for the following sports to be entered into MaxPreps.com in order to power the Conference and Region recognition process: • Baseball • Basketball • Football • Soccer • Softball • Volleyball • Beach Volleyball The following rosters are required to be entered into the AIA System for Section Player of the Year, Section Coach of the Year, and Division Coach of the Year voting: • Badminton • Tennis Region Voting (excluding Badminton and Tennis): The region reps from the conference committees will be responsible for entering in the results of the region voting for display on www.azpreps365.com. The region reps can designate this to another individual; however, the region rep will need to notify the AIA of who that rep would be. In some sports, where regions differ from the master regions, the conference chair will need to name the region reps for each region in that sport. Those sports include: 2A 11-man football, 1A 8-man football, 2A fall soccer boys, 2A fall soccer girls, 3A winter soccer boys, 3A winter soccer girls, 6A and 5A volleyball boys. Each region may meet as a whole to determine the region teams. If the region is unable to meet as a whole, or a member of that region is unable to meet, the region representative shall take those votes via email and bring them to the region meeting for consideration. -

THE RULES OF SCORING 2011 OFFICIAL BASEBALL RULES WITH CHANGES FROM LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL’S “WHAT’S THE SCORE” PUBLICATION INTRODUCTION These “Rules of Scoring” are for the use of those managers and coaches who want to score a Juvenile or Minor League game or wish to know how to correctly score a play or a time at bat during a Juvenile or Minor League game. These “Rules of Scoring” address the recording of individual and team actions, runs batted in, base hits and determining their value, stolen bases and caught stealing, sacrifices, put outs and assists, when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, wild pitches and passed balls, bases on balls and strikeouts, earned runs, and the winning and losing pitcher. Unlike the Official Baseball Rules used by professional baseball and many amateur leagues, the Little League Playing Rules do not address The Rules of Scoring. However, the Little League Rules of Scoring are similar to the scoring rules used in professional baseball found in Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules. Consequently, Rule 10 of the Official Baseball Rules is used as the basis for these Rules of Scoring. However, there are differences (e.g., when to charge or not charge a fielder with an error, runs batted in, winning and losing pitcher). These differences are based on Little League Baseball’s “What’s the Score” booklet. Those additional rules and those modified rules from the “What’s the Score” booklet are in italics. The “What’s the Score” booklet assigns the Official Scorer certain duties under Little League Regulation VI concerning pitching limits which have not implemented by the IAB (see Juvenile League Rule 12.08.08). -
Xvi: 3-Man Mechanics Standard Operating Procedures
XVI: 3-MAN MECHANICS STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES – 3-MAN CREWS ABBREVIATIONS: The plate umpire will be referred to as U1, the first-base umpire as U2, and the third-base umpire will be referred to as U3. It is assumed that in all play situations, U1 will start out behind the plate. There are four basic positions for the base umpires: positions A, B, C and D. These positions are described as follows, and will remain unchanged, regardless of the number of outs: Position A — Both feet in foul territory, approximately 10 feet behind the first baseman. Position B — At the infield cutout near second base, first-base side of the infield, feet parallel to the pitcher's plate, able to move to cover a pickoff attempt at second base. Position C — Halfway between the mound and second base, third-base side of the infield, feet parallel to the pitcher's plate, able to move to cover a pickoff attempt or attempted steal at either second base or third base. Position D — Both feet in foul territory, approximately 10 feet behind the third baseman. If covering a base with runners on, Positions A and D are modified somewhat in that the umpire on the baseline will move up closer to the base, still in foul territory, in order to get an angle on the pickoff attempt and line up the pitcher's foot crossing over the back edge of the pitcher's plate. GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: U1: 1. Call balls and strikes. 2. Rule fair/foul on any batted ball that is played on or comes to rest in front of the front edge of the base down the first-base line with U2 in Position A and down the third-base line with U3 in position D. -

GENERATING OFFENSE CORNERSTONE! Generating Offense Without Hitting Many times, you will hear coaches and players mistakenly refer to offense strictly as "hitting." They will say things such as "we just didn't hit today," or "we could not hit that pitcher." There is no doubt that on a day when you don't score many runs, those statements are true, however this rationale shows an imperfect understanding of how runs are scored. Coaches and players need to realize that some days, you will not be able to “hit” the pitcher. On days like these, you need to be able to score runs without hitting. This four part series will look at the various ways to generate offense without hitting. Part I: Getting on base There are seven different ways a batter can reach base safely. Two of the seven, are largely out of the control of the hitter (catcher’s interference, drop third strike), and one of them (fielder’s choice) requires that someone already be on base and gives no real offensive advantage. Other than getting a hit, there are three ways to get on base that offense has control over: walk, hit by pitch, or reaching base due to an error. Let’s examine each of those three carefully to determine how your players can give themselves the best chance to get on base without getting a hit. Hit by pitch: Watch a high school or college game and you will hear screams of “wear it!” or “we got ice!” coming from the offensive teams dugout anytime a player jumps out of the way of a pitch. -

Tactics and Strategies 193 Hit-and-Run Drill/Game Goal: To execute the hit-and-run play. Setup: Set up an entire defense and place one runner on first base. Description: A coach should pitch and control the velocity and location of pitches, asking the batters to try to hit toward the hole vacated by whomever is covering second in an attempt to advance the runner to the next base and avoid a double play (see figure 9.2). Remember to ask the batters to try to make contact no matter the location of the pitch. The runner should advance as far as possible without being thrown out. Let the group of offensive players have two at-bats each and then rotate in that many players from the defense. Award points to each hitting group this way: • Two points for a hit that advances a runner to third or home • One point for a hit that advances a runner only to second • Zero points for plays that do not advance the runner To make the game easier, do the following: • Have batters hit off a tee. • Instruct infielders to let the ball go through to the outfield. • Allow leadoffs. To make the game harder, do the following: • Throw faster pitches. • Allow no leadoffs. • Throw pitches outside the strike zone to make the hitters protect the runner. 2B SS 3B R CH 1B Note: Either 2B or SS can cover. MJCCA Youth Baseball Player Pitch Rules 4th-6th Grade NATIONAL LEAGUE: PLAYER PITCH BASEBALL The baseball used in this league will be a regular baseball. Time Limit: No new inning after 1 hour 30 minutes. If the Home Team is ahead when time expires, it is up to the Visiting Team to decide if they would like to finish the inning. THE FIELD Standard Little League Field The distance between bases will be seventy feet (70'). The distance from the pitching rubber to home plate will be approximately forty-seven feet (47'). INDIVIDUAL PLAYING TIME 1. All players will bat continuously through the batting order for the entire game. 2. No player will remain out of the game for two (2) consecutive innings during a game. Ex.: If player #5 bats second in the batting order, does not get to start in the field in the first inning. Therefore, player #5 must play in the field in the second inning. PITCHING RULES 1. Any team member may pitch, subject to the other restrictions of the pitching rules. 2. A pitcher shall not pitch any more than THREE (3) continuous innings per game. 3. Delivering one (1) pitch to a batter shall be considered as pitching one (1) inning Revised 8/08 4. A coach shall be entitled to request time, on defense, to talk to his pitcher once per inning. On the second visit in the same inning, he shall be required to remove the pitcher from the mound, but he can be placed at any other position in the field. -

When the 18th is chosen that team is finished drafting (note: team may draft a player on the DL and at the conclusion of the full Draft, he may disable the player and pick-up another player). 2. Teams draft in reverse order of the standings the previous year. 3. Expansion team(s) will pick 6th in rounds 1 thru 6, and first thereafter in each round until his roster contains 23 players. *****Change to***** II. The Draft 1. Each team drafts until the total number of players on the roster reaches 23. Any players drafted who are currently on the 7, 10, or 60 day IL may be replaced at the end of the draft maintaining the correct draft order and protocol. 2. The previous season’s team point total will determine the draft order smallest to largest. 3. All expansion teams will select five players in an expansion draft (see section VI). They will then draft in the 6 th round for 6 rounds and then 1 st after that. (If more than 1 team the next round) III. The Rosters 1. Each team protects 5 players from the previous season roster. 2. Each team may have up to 23 active players. You can have any combination of pitchers and hitters.
