Mt. Airy Baseball Rules Majors: Ages 11-12
______________ ______________ “The idea of community . the idea of coming together. We’re still not good at that in this country. We talk about it a lot. Some politicians call it “family”. At moments of crisis we are magnificent in it. At those moments we understand community, helping one another. In baseball, you do that all the time. You can’t win it alone. You can be the best pitcher in baseball, but somebody has to get you a run to win the game. It is a community activity. You need all nine players helping one another. I love the bunt play, the idea of sacrifice. Even the word is good. Giving your self up for the whole. That’s Jeremiah. You find your own good in the good of the whole. You find your own fulfillment in the success of the community. Baseball teaches us that.” --Mario Cuomo 90% of this game is half mental. --- Yogi Berra Table of Contents A message from the “Comish” ……………………………………… 1 Mission Statement ……………………………………………………… 2 Coaching Goals ……………………………………………………… 3 Basic First Aid ……………………………………………………… 5 T-Ball League ……………………………………………………… 7 Essential Skills Rules Schedule AA League ………………………………………………………. 13 Essential Skills Rules Schedule AAA League ………………………………………………………… 21 Essential Skills Rules Schedule Major League …………………………………………………………. 36 Essential Skills Rules Schedule Playoffs Rules and Schedule…………………………………………….. 53 Practice Organization Tips ..…………………………… ………………….. 55 Photo Schedule ………………………………………………………………….. 65 Welcome to Mt. NAME OF THE GAME: DO STATISTICS CONFIRM THE LABELS OF PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL ERAS? by Mitchell T. Woltring A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Leisure and Sport Management Middle Tennessee State University May 2013 Thesis Committee: Dr. Colby Jubenville Dr. Steven Estes ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would not be where I am if not for support I have received from many important people. First and foremost, I would like thank my wife, Sarah Woltring, for believing in me and supporting me in an incalculable manner. I would like to thank my parents, Tom and Julie Woltring, for always supporting and encouraging me to make myself a better person. I would be remiss to not personally thank Dr. Colby Jubenville and the entire Department at Middle Tennessee State University. Without Dr. Jubenville convincing me that MTSU was the place where I needed to come in order to thrive, I would not be in the position I am now. Furthermore, thank you to Dr. Elroy Sullivan for helping me run and understand the statistical analyses. Without your help I would not have been able to undertake the study at hand. Last, but certainly not least, thank you to all my family and friends, which are far too many to name. You have all helped shape me into the person I am and have played an integral role in my life. ii ABSTRACT A game defined and measured by hitting and pitching performances, baseball exists as the most statistical of all sports (Albert, 2003, p. -

Baseball Fans Divided on Designated Hitter Rule
The Harris Survey For Release: Thursday AM, December 13th, 1984 1984 si i i ISSN 0273-1037 BASEBALL FANS DIVIDED ON DESIGNATED HITTER RULE By Louis Harris Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth says he wants to be guided by a poll of baseball fans on whether to adopt the designated hitter rule for the National League (the rule now exists in the American League) or drop the designated hitter rule entirely. But, according to a special Harris Sports Survey, he will not find a clear-cut decision among fans. Forty-four percent of baseball fans nat~onwide favor having designated hitters in both leagues, but an equal 44 percent want to do away with them altogether. Another 4 percent would keep designated hitters in the American League only. Thus, fans are evenly divided on whether baseball should allow the use of the des~gnated hitter, a player who never plays in the field but who bats for the pitcher. Comrr, issioner Ueberroth can expect to court the ire of roughly half of baseball's fans if he makes a uniform rule for both leagues. These overall results mask sharr and decisive differences between k~erican and National League fans, however. Those with an American League allegiance favor the r~le for both leagues by 52-37 percen~, while National League fans oppose it by an almost identlcal 54-37 percent. T-Ball / Coach Pitch - How to Choose a Glove (Ages 4-6) T-Ball / Coach Pitch - How to Choose a Glove (Ages 4-6) by Guest Author: Larry Callicoat
T-Ball / Coach Pitch - How to Choose a Glove (Ages 4-6) T-Ball / Coach Pitch - How to Choose a Glove (Ages 4-6) By guest author: Larry Callicoat You've signed your Little League player up for T-ball/coach pitch and now he needs a glove. Starting a new sport can be a drain on the wallet, especially if you're not sure if your son will enjoy playing baseball. You do not need to spend a lot of money on a glove in order to get a good quality one that can be used throughout the T-ball and coach pitch seasons. You just need to know how to pick out a good glove. 1. Size does matter. Contrary to popular belief, bigger is not always better for the beginner player. Beginning players need a smaller glove so that they can hone the skill of catching and fielding a baseball. Look for a youth glove that is 9 1/2" to 10 3/4". At this age, players do not need an 11" glove or a specialized glove (one made for 1st baseman, infielder, outfielder, etc.). They need an all purpose glove for T-ball and or coach pitch. Don't worry about playing certain positions at this point, T-ball is geared towards teaching fundamentals and making baseball FUN so that they want to come back next season. 2. Construction and Material. Most youth gloves are constructed with a leather palm and synthetic material for the outer shell. This allows for a lighter glove and one that easier to close. -

Ice Hockey Equipment Fitting Guide Brought to You by Center Ice Skate & Sport, Easton, and Edgar Edger
Ice Hockey Equipment Fitting Guide Brought to you by Center Ice Skate & Sport, Easton, and Edgar Edger Skates Skates are one of the most important things a hockey player can buy. Ice skates normally fit 1 to 1 1/2 sizes smaller than your shoe sizes. Skates should be tried on while you are wearing the socks that you plan to skate in. Unlace the skate far enough to allow your foot to slide in easily. Push your foot toward the front of the skate until your big toe just touches the end of the toe cap. You should be able to fit one finger between the back of your foot and the heel of the skate. This is a good starting point. Next, force your foot to the heel of the skate by kicking it on the floor. Lace up the skate. For a proper fit, your big toe should be able to just barely touch the toe cap. When sizing skates for younger players, you can go up 1/2 size to accommodate growth, but be careful not to buy the skates too big. A skate that is too big is not supported by the foot, and will cause blisters and premature breakdown. Skate Break-in & Care A good, clean way to break in skates is to lace them up at home. If you do this for a few hours it should help your feet feel better when you first skate. Be sure to wear skate guards around the house. After skating, be sure to remove the skate's footbed to allow the boot to dry.
