(Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 2017) and Style Guide for Editors and Writers, 5th ed. (Salt Lake City: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2013). This style guide summarizes the main principles in the other style guides and lists a few exceptions to their guidelines. Formatting 1. Use double-spacing throughout the manuscript and the endnotes. Use one-inch margins, and insert page numbers at the bottom of the page. Use a Times New Roman 12-point font for both the body of the manuscript and the notes. Use only one space after periods. 2. If you have images, add captions and courtesy lines (such as courtesy of Church History Library, Salt Lake City) to the Word file. However, do not insert images in the Word files; submit them separately. Images should be 300 dpi or better (TIFF or JPG files). File names and captions should match (Fig. 1.1 = chapter 1, figure 1). Headings 3. Update: Include headings to break up the text. First-Level Headings First-level headings should be flush left and bolded, as in the example above. You have embarked on an educational journey that may include challenges and even setbacks along the way. My desire is to provide you with hope and encouragement when you face difficult times as you pursue your educational goals. The recently dedicated Rome Italy Temple holds a special place in my heart. I participated in the construction process for this magnificent house of the Lord since the groundbreaking ceremony in September 2009. The excitement of everyone in attendance was palpable, and we all anticipated that the construction would proceed smoothly and swiftly. None of us attending that day would have ever imagined it would take almost 10 years to complete this beautiful edifice. Unfortunately, as soon as construction began, problems arose. Then, for several years, obstacles of every kind got in our way that often impeded and delayed our progress. The finish date of the construction had to be pushed back several times. During these challenging times, I occasionally found myself asking: “Where is the Lord? Why doesn’t He come to help us?” Finally, the construction of the temple was complete. Last March, I was invited to participate in the dedicatory sessions. Upon my arrival at the temple site, I looked upon the incredible beauty of the temple and was filled with overwhelming feelings of awe and gratitude.

What more meaningful edifice could the “eternal city” receive than a house of the Lord? The temple, the first in Italy, is located in the Italy northeast section of Rome. It is part of a religious and cultural complex that includes a multifunctional meetinghouse (with a cultural hall and facilities for conferences), a visitors’ center, a family history cen- ter, and patron housing , all surrounded by gardens. Missionary efforts in Italy began in 1850, but progress was interrupted by local concerns with the Church and by certain legal requirements. The Church was allowed to resume missionary efforts in 1964. In 1993, Italy granted formal legal status to the Church.     Print PROVO CITY TIMELINE Date Event Abt 1300 The ancestors of the Utes settled in Utah Valley. Abt 1500 The Utes consisted of ten distinct bands, two of which occupied parts of Utah Valley. Utah Lake was the western edge of the area occupied by the Uintah band which extended from the lake eastward to the Uinta Basin and the Tavaputs Plateau (much of Uintah and Duchesne counties). The other band, the Timpamogots (Timpanogots, Timpanogos), dwelt along the southern and eastern shores of Utah Lake. 1776 Two Catholic Priests, Fathers Escalante and Domínguez led an expedition from Santa Fe that looped up into a corner of Utah Valley seeking a northern route out to California. e r o M 1824- Etienne Provost followed the Provo River down into Utah Valley 1825 and set up a trading post near Utah Lake n r a e 1847 Mormons from Salt Lake explored Utah Valley. L Mar First Mormon colonists left the Salt Lake Valley and headed out to 1849 establish a colony in the Utah Valley to the south. The group of about 150 individuals were under the leadership of John S. Higbee. Apr 1849 The colonists began settling and constructing a fort, known as "Fort Utah", south of the Provo River and upstream a couple of miles from Utah Lake. Apr 1850 New fort built northwest of the first one (where North Park is located). 1850 A log schoolhouse was constructed inside the 2nd fort. 1850 Territorial Legislature passed a law providing for certain men to have control of a stagecoach line from Ogden to Salt Lake City, Provo, Manti, and the county seat of Iron County.
