RACE WALKING GUERRILLA War Bulletin N.3 | 12 Feb 2019 Good Evening, Radio London Speaking RACE WALKING GUERRILLA war bulletin n.3 | 12 Feb 2019 Good evening, Radio London speaking. IAAF Race Walking Committee perseveres in wanting delete 50Km and 20Km races, despite the opposition of many racewalkers, coaches and racewalking lovers in the world. Also the italians former racewalkers Abdon Pamich (50Km bronze and gold medal in Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964 Olympics) and Sandro Bellucci (50Km bronze medal in Los Angeles 1984 Olympics) say it's wrong delete the 50km race. It’s clear that now Maurizio Damilano choosing to delete race walking 20Km and 50Km, does not represent many racewalkers and racewalking lovers, but nobody except himself. For this reason we have carried out a demonstration action, so RACE WALKING GUERRILLA CLAIM the liberation of the Italian flag from the IAAF race walking committee web page https://www.iaaf.org/about-iaaf/structure/committees#iaaf-race-walking-committee In the night between 9 & 10 Feb. 2019, a handful of men under the command of Colonel Harold Stevens, with a 3h32min33sec blitz, freed the Italian flag from his imprisonment. At the end of the mission Colonel Harold Stevens celebrated by saying: “the devil is in the details*”. The flag has been brought home and as you can see in the picture is very tried from the period of captivity but safe & sound. But now we need your help, join the RACEWALKING GUERRILLA!! This is not a joke, at stake is the survival of race walking. We must get visibility, make ourselves known to the world, media, TV, press and IAAF must see our protest everywhere. In training, before races, after races, in the podium. And we must continue, until year 2021 if necessary, without ever yielding. We want race walking 20Km and 50Km!!!! Is very simple Step1> close both hands in fist | Step2> cross arms to reverse position of hands | Final step > open your left hand. What is this? Is a 50 with your hands, to remind everyone that we want the 50Km race. Now racewalkers all over the world, let's go! Take a PHOTO and SHARE. Hashtag #SAVETHERACEWALKING. Text “We want racewalking 20Km and 50Km”. Add also your message, your thought, explain reasons and if possible add the logo. If you need help and info, or you can send suggestions, please write an e-mail to [email protected] Colonel Harold Stevens * Whaaaaaat???? How????? do you strike the IAAF website?? ... keep calm man, we're just kidding you, we just wanted to get your attention. Flag has been missing for a long time, since IAAF have updated the website, is a mistake of their webmaster, we are not criminals, we are racewalking lovers; it's only an ironic coincidence, the committee was so busy thinking about the best way to destroy race walking that has never noticed the error on web page for years. We want racewalking 20Km and 50Km #SAVETHERACEWALKING We want racewalking 20Km and 50Km #SAVETHERACEWALKING We want racewalking 20Km and 50Km #SAVETHERACEWALKING .

Joyce had a number of serious health issues in recent years and it had been some time since we had last seen her at the walkers club, but we knew she was being well cared for by her extended and loving family. Joyce had worked alongside her husband Harry within the Victorian Race Walking Club since the early 1960's. Joining our racewalking community as a young mother, she had enthusiastically thrown herself into club fundraising, organising club events such as dances, and supporting the walkers on race days. For a period from the mid 1990s onwards, Barb Gardiner and Joyce were the sole ladies working behind the scenes, running the canteen, organising raceday barbeques and organising large social events such as club dinners. If not for their ongoing efforts, the club might well have fallen on very bad times when the old clubrooms were demolished and we went through a period of reduced club membership and considerable soul searching.

Drake, A. (2005) “The training methods of Olympic Champion Ivano Brugnetti and Italian race walkers.” The Coach. 27. 55-61. The Training Methods of Olympic 20 km Champion Ivano Brugnetti and Italian Race Walkers In August 2004 Ivano Brugnetti added to his 1999 World Championship 50 km title winning the Olympic 20 km in a personal best time of 1:19:40 to join Ugo Frigerio, Giuseppe “Pino” Dordoni and Maurizio Damilano as an Italian Olympic race walking champion. Brugnetti is one of a number of successful performers from the Italian race walking programme and this paper will examine the training means that have lead to medal winning performances by Brugnetti, Damilano, Sandro Bellucci, Giovanni De Benedictus, Michele Didoni, Arturo Di Mezza, Giovanni Pericelli, Erica Alfridi, Elisabetta “Betty” Perrone, Ileana Salvador and Annarita Sidoti. In November 2004 Maurizio Damilano, Chairman of the IAAF Race Walking Commission and 1980 Olympic and 1987 and 1991 World 20 km Champion described the training methods of the Italian race walkers at a UK Athletics Race Walking Policy Support Team Seminar. Technical preparation underpins all aspects of race walking training, as successful performance is a composite of effective technique (IAAF rule 230) and physical preparation. The training of the Italian race walkers applies the principles of marathon preparation developed by Canova and Gigliotti, who worked with among others 1988 Olympic Marathon Champion Gelindo Bordin. To this end training is geared to improving race walking biomechanics, i.e. develop economical technique; improving fuel efficiency in competition, e.g. through glycogen sparing; shift lactate threshold rightwards, i.e.
