Topic: Instructional tools demonstrating how to conquer a Warped Wall (A Warped Wall is the skateboard-style ramp obstacle on American Ninja Warrior.) Target Learners: Gym Patrons Ages: 5-65 Male and female Current population of the gym utilizes primarily English Beginner-level expertise o Our gym offers three Warped Walls, each with a varying degree of difficulty. However, the technique for all three walls is the same, which would allow for one module for all ages. o Users need to understand safety aspects of the wall prior to attempting/learning technical aspects necessary for the wall. This may be accomplished as a pretraining component in the module titled “Safety.” Learning Objectives: Gym patrons will be able to perform necessary “safety bails” when attempting the Warped Wall. Gym patrons will be able to successfully demonstrate proper technique when attempting the Warped Wall. o Proper technique is defined by body position, foot cadence, either a safety bail or climb up depending upon user strength and ability. Product Description: Infographic: The infographic will be placed in the gym at the Warped Wall for patrons. Users will be able to consult the graphic to ensure proper safety. Pictures will showcase what should be done to allow users of all languages and reading levels to see what is ideal even if a language-barrier/inability to read may be present. The graphic will highlight tips such as slightly leaning back rather than arching one’s back to avoid tipping over, sliding down the wall with four contact points, avoiding running into the wall, and avoiding turning and running back down on a failed attempt. I see this graphic working in conjunction with the interactive learning object (ILO) that contains video demonstrations since all these topics will be covered in detail during that activity. This graphic will hang as a quick review/consult for patrons. Interactive Learning Object: The ILO will serve as tool to reduce the demand felt on staff members at the gym. The ILO will be available for patrons that would like to work on the Warped Wall without a coach present as it will walk patrons through what to do if they are unable to get up the wall. This topic will reduce injuries while helping patrons practice proper technique even when a coach is not present. The ILO will cover key topics such as body positioning, foot cadences, climb-ups, safety bails, and helpful tips. Users will work through each tip in isolation before attempting to put together all skills necessary to tackle the wall. The ILO will utilize video demonstration and a user- controlled interface in Articulate Storyline. Justification: Demand for alternative supports for patrons has been suggested numerous times. Demand for personalized instruction has reduced how many clients our coaches can interact with in a given night. Additionally, not all our coaches share the same level of expertise and knowledge when it comes to coaching obstacles. As a result, our gym is looking to contract and utilize individuals that have competed on the show to continue to bring our members an interactive and instructional environment that helps them accomplish their goals. The Warped Wall is a focal point of our gym, and it is one of the most used obstacles in our facility. Specific Multimedia Design Principles: Video footage of the ILO will adhere to the modality principle since I will discuss and talk through everything that is being shown. The multimedia principle will be heavily utilized on the infographic with each picture serving a specific purpose related to the Warped Wall. The coherence principle will be utilized as I revise and review my script to ensure that everything discussed is on topic and free of extraneous distraction. The segmenting principle will be utilized during the ILO since I will walk users through each of the separate components in the module before having them combine the parts into a collective Warped Wall run. User control will be available since users can start and stop video along with advancing to the next slide. An accompanying “How To” video will serve as a worked example. .
